I friend of mine and former coworker passed the bar after graduating with honors from SMU. Even better, he has a father in law that owns a large law form.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 14, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) So what, it's 50 degrees? We got all the way down to a light freeze in San Antonio.

Ebola in the USA
While Balta's uninsured comment was not directed at this, it does highlight why everyone benefits when people have insurance and receive treatment. People who can not afford treatment continue on and infect others, increasing the cost for everyone.

Chris Sale finishes 3rd in Cy Young voting
You have to believe he will win a couple before his career is over. Hopefully with the Sox.

Abreu finishes 4th in MVP voting
The faulty logic in a baseball players needs to be on a playoff or contending team is one player on a baseball team cannot influence the team results as much as on a basketball team. I recognize a basketball player being able to put the team on his back and get them to the playoffs, but that isn't possible in most other sports.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 12:38 PM) Come on grandpa, talk to us about posting on the walls of caves! Some ancient toddler got his butt spanked for writing on the walls, hundreds of years later we marvel at them and wonder what they mean.

Religion and the Environment
While working for the Boy Scouts I was assigned as the liaison with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints aka Mormons. About have of the committee were scientists from the local university. I loved how they balanced their religious and scientific views. The statement was simple, science teaches us how, religion teaches us why. That has stuck with me. It sums up my beliefs very well.

The Beheading
I find it interesting that our friends the Saudis behead about eighty "criminals" per year for things you don't even get arrested for in the U.S. and we never complain. I wonder why.

Ebola in the USA
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) we need to shut down the Texas borders and stop all air traffic coming out of there. And since it could be spread by oil, we should cut off those supplies as well.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 13, 2014 -> 07:37 AM) This is an interesting topic of conversation, and I'd agree to a point. However, when it comes to technology in the modern era, a lot of these devices aren't meant to last beyond a year or two at the most, especially for power users or gadget/tech lovers. The things we expect our devices to do today are things we never even thought of or expected just a year or two ago, and with that added functionality comes added overhead. The upgrade cycles come so fast that this effect your speaking of is much more apparent than it was in the past where upgrades were much slower to come. Also, battery technology is lagging behind the rest of the industry, especially today. The answer is always the same, make a bigger battery, carry a spare battery, carry a battery "juicepack" (which is a phone case which doubles as a spare battery). The answer needs to be, "we need smaller batteries that last 5x as long", which of course is a tech fantasy at this point, but we need to get there. Also, it's important to keep in mind that these batteries are only meant to last a few years before the capacity they hold drops to less than 80%, and they also discharge faster over time, so the initial battery life you were once used too wouldn't exist on your device today whether you upgraded it to the latest OS or not. I believe everything you said proves my premise. New OS on old hardware is rarely a good match. It is generally easier to extend the life of a device by upgrading hardware not software. Adding memory, maybe a new drive, new battery, is a better path than software upgrades.

I check how they place their hands on the club, I never like to say grip, that tends to have them hold too tight. I also check their clubs and regrip worn clubs. I hadn't thought of wall squats, I'll start those myself. The tension between the hips and shoulders can't be avoided in a good setting.

Horrible High School Crime re. Football Team
Parents, PARENTS, are saying that no one was harmed, that the coach taught the kids more about character than the school board, that the games should not have been cancelled, that the football team takes care of their own, etc. I wish we had our old puke icon still.

Horrible High School Crime re. Football Team
The theory is the greater the pain the tighter the bound. I am 99% certain that the coaches didn't suggest this happen. I'm certain the hazing simply went a little further each year. Mob mentality and peer pressure is a powerful thing.

Golfing Thread
QUOTE (SnB @ Oct 12, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) How tall should a hybrid be in comparison to the iron that it replaces? Same length? I bought a cobra 2-3 hybrid off the shelf and it's much taller than my 4 hybrid and the 3 iron. I hit the other 2 clubs much better and have to change my hitting stance to even have a chance of hitting the cobra hybrid correctly. Should I get the shaft shortened to match the other clubs? How is the shaft compared to a 3 metal?

Technology catch-all thread
I'm trying to think of a time that a new OS on anything that wasn't designed for it didn't have more negative than positive. I'm thinking back to MS-DOS 3.0. If the device wasn't designed for the OS it was probably a bad move to update.

Golfing Thread
I was hitting everything into our practice fairway. While working with my team I've been hitting everything in their bags. It's a great way to demo clubs. That's how I settled on the 913. I'm also swapping out my Mizuno rescue clubs for Taylor Made hybrids. At my age it seems that updates in technology may keep me in single digit handicap for a while longer. That and losing weight.

Any tips on helping high school golfers avoid injuries? I've been working with them on various stretching drills and even swinging a club left handed to balance the stretching. Basically all tips I've picked up through the years.

Ebola in the USA
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2014 -> 04:42 PM) Ebola reaching its peak right as flu season is rolling around is going to cause of lot of meltdowns. My daughter was really sick with vomiting, fever, chills, and all that. Yeah, we both starting thinking about who she has been around and where they have been. Her boyfriend works for a giant international company with projects all over the globe. He was sick earlier in the week. She had been in Dallas the previous week. Paranoid? Maybe.
