Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) I get all my phones on discount w/ a 2-year contract. I've never paid full price for a phone. You realize the carriers have built in part of the phone in their rates?

Explain this to an old man . . .
As many know I teach high school in San Antonio. As I was walking down the hall I heard a kid greet another friend by saying Hi n****! Now that word is like nails on a chalkboard to a 50+ year old. I spin around to see two nerdy white freshman do a fist bump. On top of it all, today is a fundraiser and they are wearing pajamas. WTF?!

Should The Sox Buy the Old Post Office For A New Stadium?
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) But it wasn't better because his KIDS took over, it was better because it was better. That they were his children and hired a competent president to take over is remarkable. BUt the problem is with kids who have not made their wealth elsewhere is the team is their entire identity. Sell the team? It would be unfathomable. The kids made moves that the old man would never have allowed. His allegiance to Bob Pulford was mind blowing, plus is love for the Sutter family smh. The old man couldn't figure out the media, etc. He has to go down as one of the wirtz owners in all sports.

All things Christmas
Christmas in San Antonio means . . . Rounds of golf at Cedar Creek, Republic, and Brackenridge Park. Boat trip down River Walk, and New Years in Big Bend.

Soxtalk Demographics Poll
When I was 16, (this is a cool spin on this thread), Veeck's strategy was "rent a player". This was the South Side Hit Men, and I still get chills as I type that. Singing with Nancy Fox. I received my driver's license and we started going to 4-5 games a week from the far north burbs. The team won 90 games, was in first place mid August but fell 12 games short of the Royals.

Technology catch-all thread
This one had a CD/DVD drive. At first I was taken back by the 500MG HD but now that I am using a network drive along with Google Drive and DropBox a large capacity internal HD does not seems necessary.

My wife really likes the idea of an all-in-one computer. She was looking at a HP. Thoughts?

Soxtalk Demographics Poll
QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 17, 2014 -> 12:36 PM) Tex hasn't completed poll yet....65+ is still at 0. Thank you for making the cutoff 53 Put me in an older category. It is weird when I think of some posters and realizing my kids are older. I forget when I was older than everyone on the 40 man roster. I do know that we have never had a president younger than me. (Obama is two weeks older). When I see how many kids were in high school when they started posting here I realize I could be talking to one of my students. That is really weird and something I would prefer to avoid.

Should The Sox Buy the Old Post Office For A New Stadium?
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 18, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) I just want to say THANK YOU to Jerry for that. If his kids can pull together the money to buy it from him, great, but I hate when sports fans are held hostage by the 2nd and 3rd generation kids whose entire identity is the team and if they fail there is no way out. Dollar Bill Worst is an example of it being better with the kids taking over. As for the next stadium, I still believe it will be out in the suburbs. Pluck it down in Arlington Heights somewhere near Arlington Park. Basically anywhere along 53.

The environment thread
And if I could add the Audubon Society and an island they own near South Padre Island. TNC Bought "shore to shore" a significant chuck of South Padre Island which very solidly ends any development on that end of the island. Honestly, unless a second bridge was build waaaaay up that way it wouldn't have been developed for a hundred years, but it is nice to know there will always be some open land on the island.

Sports Related Bucket List
I recently was working with a golf pro and we ran through my bag and shoot video on my swing for a project. I'm thinking of dedicating some time to my game and see if I can be back to a 5 handicap or so. Mostly for the stress relief.

All things Christmas
Holiday Inn for me. The worst part of Christmas is putting lights on the tree. We have a cool setup in the new house. Our loft is visible from the living room and has a nine foot ceiling, just enough for our tree. We didn't have to crowd the living room furniture and can still enjoy the tree.

"threats" on facebook turns into Supreme Court case
I reread the thread and would like to add a factor that we seem to miss. There is a real world connection. These are classmates often times who are getting together to bully a kid. Friends of friends may be in the group and giving a blow by blow description of what people are saying about you. If you read that someone is going to jump your friend after school do you tell your friend? Or that a girl is pretending to like you then is going to mock you in front of the whole class? It's different than here where we're spread out and very few know anyone else in the real physical world.
