  1. I'm sitting here laughing. How bad does it have to get for this to be funny? My attitude is f*** it how much worse can anyone make it?
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 07:41 AM) Probably but I don't have headphones with a long enough cord to make that work. Looking wireless. I'll go to Best Buy after work. There are a bunch of wireless options but iirc they plug into the TV. Some you can link up to 4 headphones into them
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) They lose the $20. If they are believed to be intentionally passing off fake $20, they get prosecuted. So they lose the employee. My point it many employers would be victims here not criminals. I believe we need to be careful before punishing a business for being fooled by fake documents.
  4. We don't punish businesses who accept a forged $20. Once we begin sorting which document they should have caught and which one they shouldn't the law becomes too murky. Plus with birth certificates there are no standards. Every location has a different design. Companies who have jobs that no one else wants, migrant farm jobs, processing sheds, basically all of ag, are always caught with more illegals. There are often times the only ones applying.
  5. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 06:01 PM) I'm not going to blindly love some guy because he won the white sox a WS. I'm 32 years old, I dont need to worship athletes like some 8 year old fanboy. plus I'm a Rays fan now so it wont bother me if the WS dont win again in my lifetime. If they do then that's great because there are some cool people here I'd be happy for their excitement. Have you found any good Rays' fan sites?
  6. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 12:57 AM) I'm not a fan of comparing Abreu to other rookies. He's 27 years old. By no means does he deserve veteran expectations, but it isn't the same as 21-24 year old rookies. Exactly. And I would go further that he is closer to veteran expectations than rookie forgiveness. And his pay check proves that is what MLB executives believe also.
  7. Doesn't your TV have a jack?
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) it is clearly subjective, we may never agree nor will one will convince the other. I can accept that, most may not, however saying that, my prob with Scott B, is how he does it. the subject of doing it for the client sometimes doesn't wash for me. lets assume and I am saying this for an example for this discussion Rodon. Would Rodon have held out for the sum of let say $300,000-500,000 usd, even knowing that the sox went slot and over to sign him? he and his camp may not like the slot allotted money, but those are the new guidelines. It was done to help all, I know it is not the total final amount. using the it as leverage to force more money is what I have the problem in this situation. I am not going to use a lot of maybe examples to go in the realm of "What if" stories or examples. the sox played by the rules and went overslot money, the offer is over slot, trying to max the salary and not caring about the ability for the sox to sign anyone else is my prob. I also blame the sox org, they knew what it was like to deal with BorAss, and they still went to the well and did it again. this time Rodon did sign and everyone came out happy...... meaning sox and Rodon camp. for me, this is closed and I am going to look forward to sox new future with Rodon pitching his best for the org. I am done. Peace. Do Pepsi employees take pay cuts so they can win market share from Coke? The owners, not the players, have created a system where players have to negotiate their contracts. It's an adversarial process. The team doesn't give a rip about the players, as soon as the team has the advantage, they use it. How many Sox players have retired while playing for the Sox? I don't recall Thomas being greedy, he accepted less than what he could have earned on the open market. What did that loyalty get him?
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 06:43 PM) And yet, nobody has disputed what I posted. No one ever has so people stopped trying.
  10. This may be my favorite thread to read but not to post.
  11. Imagine if players didn't care what they earned. All the best players could just agree on a city and move there because winning is the only thing that matters. They shjould be more like regular workers who accept jobs without even knowing what they will earn.
  12. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) actually AJ would walk out, get punched in the face and then run off the field waving to the fans and act as if he just won some fight. And that would be the only quality "punch out" for the 'pen
  13. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 12:18 PM) Tommy Ramone. Unbelievable to me that all of the original Ramones are dead. High School memories. RIP
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 07:20 AM) Baseball is different than other industries. Every time a player sets a new a level, the players know it's god for everyone. Not the same for a company that makes widgets. The premise of my argument is everyone knows everyone else's salary. If you knew the guy sitting across from you was making more than you, you would care. The emotion is the same.
  15. Imagine if the salaries of everyone in your industry were public. Now imagine people in your company, people who do not contribute as much as you, are earning more. Are you going to think hey, I don't mind earning less so the company can sell our widgets for less or are you going to say, WTF? Barry makes more than me?! Of you find out that the guy at XYZ Company with the same job is making 25% more than you. Is it greedy to think WTF? These guys are competitive and salary is just one more way they compete.
  16. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) We must have the worst bullpen ever. AJ could fix 'em
  17. Hire AJ to walk out to the mound in the 9th inning and beat the crap out of the next closer who blows a save. Wave to the fans who are offering a standing O and retire.
  18. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) hes ambidextrous I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) That is much, much higher than I'd have intuited. And it is a key reason why I always objected to the "fry the employer" approach. Detecting an illegal worker isn't as easy as it sounds. Plus. many have been here for decades. It is also a reason why the government loves illegals from a budget standpoint. Despite what most people believe they are less likely to apply for any benefits. All the input, non of the output.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 07:21 PM) I like it a lot, despite big brother now owning and mining my data from it, but do know that Honeywell has a really good competing product out for it now. But all in all I'm happy with it. Easy to use, collects usage data for me so I know how much I used my heat or ac on any given day (and why, such as an extremely hot day), and remote usage, too. I often shut off my ac or heat when I'm on vacation and I can kick it on via my phone before I get home so I walk into a comfortable house. I'd recommend it or the new Honeywell that does much of the same. Does it do the day to day stuff well? We turn off our AC when we leave and turn it back on when we get home.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) Can you back up the claim "Most"? Because I would have guessed it was actually a very small fraction of them. Oh, and our immigration system hates $75k workers too. I was speaking based on "people talk, you hear things" but here are a couple links that may be proof. http://cis.org/IdentityTheft 75% or so according to this source. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/04/world/am...ed=all&_r=0 Dated I know An article on how this actually helps SS http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...0090202673.html
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 04:19 PM) Me. Is it worth it?
  23. Anyone have a Nest thermostat?
  24. On another Sox note, the Sox bullpen has been selected to pitch the homerun derby!
