I love my job . . .
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) Every day at work is awesome. I work for REI which is a dream job for me. I love my job because it allows me about three months of time to use all my REI products. It reminds me of a conversation I once had with the pro at the country club where I was a member. He kept urging me to take the PAT (playing ability test) to become a club pro. All I could think was so I can be here on a Saturday morning working the counter instead of playing? Sure.

I love my job . . .
Friday I taught Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower". We compared the styles of Dylan and Hendrix, analysed the lyrics, debated sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Not bad for a Friday.

Catch-All Anything Thread
It sounds like you each had an agreement with the lease company, not each other. Unless you two had some agreement, I do not see anyway to sue him.

Steubenville Rape Case
I applaud the verdict. I understand and agree that victims can be too drunk to consent, therefor are not responsible for their actions. Should we also have some compassion for people who are too drunk to understand the implications of their actions?

If it had been a Packer fan it would have been drawn much smaller.

The Wussification of America
QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 10:38 PM) 6 of 1... I believe greed and religion are two very distinct things. The thesis "more wars have been started for religion" is very different than "more wars have been started for greed". The old exploration saying of doing it for "gold, God, or glory" holds true with wars as well.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 01:07 PM) I am going with 88-74. I really like the pitching staff this year, which of course means Sale and Peavy will have surgery by Memorial Day... Exactly what I was thinking.

Smelt Fishing
QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) what the hell is a smelt? Fresh water sardines kind of. You catch them in gill nets that are run out on long lines which are thrown or launched from shore. They are deep fried while drinking large amounts of beer.

Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie
With the money that JR and Co. saved by not bringing back AJ, I can take a longer vacation, perhaps go out to dinner more often, and maybe buy first editions of On The Road and Dharma Bums. What are y'all going to do with the money? /ducking guys

Smelt Fishing
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 11:06 PM) This is solid information. I went out smelt fishing with friends in high school and college a few of times out on the seawall at Burnham Harbor and had a great time. I didn't have any gear but my friends did, and as long as we had beer to share there were other fishermen out there that were happy to share fresh smelt they were grilling or frying. Don't know if it's the same sort of vibe it was back then but it is something I fondly remember. X2 I found it a lot like ice fishing, very social.

Sox projecting increase in attendance
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2013 -> 05:51 PM) Plus the Sox lost a lot of a generation when the Cubs were on free TV (and national TV) and the Sox weren't. Another great point. I haven't looked, and this is only through my biased eyes, but it does seem like the Sox won the battle of the internet. Maybe that will turn everything around.

Sox projecting increase in attendance
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 24, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) Location and ballpark, that's it. It's really easy. It's not about welcoming casual fans by either organization. So there are more avid baseball fans around Wrigley? I think you are actually agreeing with me. The casual fan is drawn to factors other than the team. Location and ballpark. The ballpark is more than sight-lines and parking. It's the entire experience. I think welcoming people to the ball park is very important. If people do not feel welcome are they really going to go?

The Wussification of America
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 11, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) More people have died in the name of God than for any other reason. Brutal wars are STILL being waged after 2000 years in areas of this world for one reason and one reason alone: religion. Really? WW1? WW2? Was it in the name of religion that atomic bombs were dropped? I believe more people have died from greed than religion. Whether a desire for land (Mexican-American War), profits from slavery (Civil War), Oil (take your pick of the past 50 years. Yes, there have been religious wars, but if you study all of the circumstances, greed is usually at the root. They may wrap it in a religious tapestry, but remove it and you see greed.

Jose Canseco 2-14 in Comeback Bid
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) How on Earth did you not call it a "Boom Boom" party? He was very gracious and came over to say hello. We did not ask him about the "call to the bullpen". He did say that the WS were the most professional organization he had been associated with.

Kitchen Renovation
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) We just did a smaller redo on our kitchen. Kept the cabinets, got new laminate counters, sink and appliances. I have relatives in the trades who know people, so I had a guy who was a semi-retired union carpenter come in and remove the old stuff, install new counters, sink, faucet and all the plumbing underneath for $400. Then wife and I painted and got 2 new lights as well. Home Depot wanted $1100 for the same install. Also did a full restore in my previous house, new cabinets, flooring, the works. What a pain in the butt, especially since my house was older. Good luck with your project. Turn in your GOP fan card.
