  1. Why? because I bow to peer pressure.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) Fixed. Do you think they had any discussions about other candidates or just said Oz is gone, hire Ventura? As far as your two candidates that you wanted interviewed, I believe they know enough about Cooper to make a judgement without a formal interview. Hell he negotiated his contract by going over his bosses head, so he and the front office are very comfortable with each other. I'd say Cooper had many informal interviews over the past few years. Plus, they may have actually done something classy and not announced who they interviewed and didn't hire. They didn't come out and say, Hey, we interviewed (insert names here) and they sucked during the interview. Image how Cooper would have felt answering questions about how he failed in the interview.
  3. Why is it that no other writer has bothered to talk to Frank? With all the ex players hired you would think that Frank would be a hotter topic.
  4. Good point. I'm wondering how much Frank has mellowed. I do think he has some of the temperament to be a coach and not immediately a manager.
  5. How can we elect someone with no experience at any elected office? Baseball teams wouldn't do that.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 07:05 AM) You're drunker then s*** if you play "Texas" as the drinking word for Perry speak. I agree. I cannot stand Rick Perry. Gee, that shouldn't be obvious or anything by now. Obama says thank you for your vote come November 2012
  7. I think the role with Konerko and other consistent veterans would be more adviser and observer while spending more time with the newer players. But, as Cowley noted, I have no idea everything a hitting coach does.
  8. Dubya says howdy. It's also not the US of pizzA either. When a governor from Arkansas can be president, can't every young boy, black or white, dream that dream? Even if you're from the state that out performed every other state during the Dem driven economic troubles we experienced? Can't a nice man like Perry, a true Democrat until the party left him, rise to the top?
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) I never liked Francona as an option all that much, and would have said absolutely not to Cooper. Martinez and Alomar were 2 guys I at least wanted to see interviewed. If they screwed the interview or clearly were unprepared...fine, then move on...but there's every reason to expect those guys to be effective managers from day 1 right now, and with Ventura I'd call it a roll of the dice. We didn't even do the due diligence on them. How many possible MLB managers are out there? Your due diligence would have been to interview these two, would it have included Ventura? Mine would have been Alomar and Mike Jirschele or Marty Brown. You keep criticizing the team for not doing due diligence, but what you are really saying is they didn't interview your candidates.
  10. I'm surprised that no one is interested in Frank's situation. His name was all over the thread when Robin was announced. I understand the Cowley hate and that Sox fans have to attack everything Cowley writes, but who they are, and who they are not interviewing is interesting. I'm glad that the team seems to be looking in the direction of an experienced hitting coach. I'd like to see Robin surrounded by a little experience. But it's not like Cowley interviewed a lesser Sox retired player, he interviewed Frank, a legitimate name.
  11. Wait, hasn't Frank been mentioned by fans as a possibility? Has no other journalist contacted Frank? That would seem pretty strange. I would think any reporter on the Sox beat would be talking to him. And for those that want coaches with experience, don't you want the team to ignore Frank?
  12. Getting back to the stadium lease, if the Sox pay more, good for Illinois taxpayers, bad for Sox fans. Which are there more.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) He's been given up for dead a couple times? I count 1...right now...and he's "Still in the race" in the same sense that Jon Huntsman is right now. He definitely has a road to the nomination...but he has to go "All in" on Iowa. Other times in his career, but this is a guy that has never lost a race, the longest serving governor in Texas history. He flat out knows how to win and has assembling a heck of a campaign team.
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) Well done. Keep it up. If I was part of your staff, I'd have been Wilson. We did think about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have one female (blond) teacher and three males. I was planning on just wearing Chicago Bear hat and sweatshirt. Instead I will spend the day eating tic tacs from a perscription bottle.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 07:50 AM) Correction - he's damn good in person on a stage with no one else involved in a discussion. He's good at giving speeches. And once the primary season hits and the candidates are forced onto smaller stages in each state, Perry will rebound nicely and pick up momentum against Rom. He's been given up for dead a couple times and is still in the race. He may be the GOP version of Clinton when it comes to feeling our pain.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) That's what I am waiting to see. With the way it is going, I wonder if we will see many just sent to Afghanistan or whatever Baracks war of the day is... How many wars the size of Bush's wars have been started since Barack has been in office? Is the current levels greater or smaller under Obama? I'm not giving Obama that much credit, this seemed like the natural arc of the war, but I sure can't give him blame for the current levels of fighting.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Still no reason for JR to charge $23.00 dollars to park highest in MLB.............per profit for JR. All profit is pure, what I believe you are complaining about is the percentage of the parking fee that is profit versus cost. Does the $23 include the city tax?
  18. I was also going to number them and feed them to each other while sending them out to break into houses, well maybe just the black kid . . .
  19. My team of teachers will be doctors, I will be Dr. House, talking in green all day . . .
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 23, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) By the way... I'm counting poker in sports movies. Pool?
  21. Obama was trying to negotiate keeping 3,000 advisers and trainers in the country but Iraq would not shield them from any prosecution, so he said bye bye. I really don't see this as politically motivated, it is a campaign promise finally kept.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) I think we are about to watch Tex bait people... Actually I was going to offer my annual offer to go check out SL&M, The Filibuster, and all of the other off season forums.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) That was a tangent that Tex brought into the conversation. Some other guy who also owned exotic anomals, apparently died in a spectacularly embarassing sexual condition some time in recent years. It was in the original story from Ohio I linked to and the two or three others that followed. I assumed there must have been something linking them, but maybe not.
  24. Once Perry's team starts with the ads and stump speeches, watch him rise in the polls in the areas he has been. He's damn good in person. I have seen him a few times and he connects with an audience.
  25. It always seemed like he was respected by everyone in baseball except the fans.
