Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 10:49 PM) Tex, you can't be that deaf and blind. The media were in the bag for Edwards for the longest time until they couldn't ignore it anymore. by that time, it didn't matter anymore in regards to politics. They sat on the story, you know it. They had names, dates, details and they sat on it. All the have (for the moment) are unsourced accusations against Cain and they are going full tilt. Of course his lame attempts at handling it didn't help any. Just as an aside, I hope this does come out so we can define what is considered inappropriate contact or conversation. Just wondering if Cain's misdeeds rise to the level of cock-tweeting. I am. I never believed Enquirer articles. Still don't. If I owned a newspaper I wouldn't check any of their articles out. You would.

Ventura "noogie" won't be shown in Arlington in 2012
Ryan owned a restaurant up on a reservoir a couple hours north of me. Long story short, when he tells the story he mentions at first he was thinking Oh s***, then as Ventura gets closer he sees his eyes go wide and confusion kind of sets in. I believe I've heard Ventura say as soon as he took off he realized it would be like fighting his grandpa and realized he was in a no win situation. Beat up gramps? Stop? So he kind of half assed the fight.

All New Soccer Thread ~ All Levels ~ All Leagues
This season a have the 7th grade boy's team. The 7th graders, now 8th grade won district last year, so the bar is set high. We are learning a new formation. We will be starting from a 3-4-3 which is what the high school implemented last season. The idea is consistency from 7-12 in everything from drills to cheers. x x x x x x x x x x x Basically from here we can fall back to a 4-4-2 or a 5-3-2 I won't have my full team until the night before our first game. They are playing football right now. I had some tonight and saw some real bright spots. Two of my best players are very athletic and left footed.

Quietly so no one sees . . .
Really like what I saw from my soccer team today. We're switching to a 3-4-3 formation with the mids divided between mostly attacking and mostly defending. Two of my better players are left footed. With penalty kick tie breakers, that could be huge.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 06:30 AM) I don't seem to recall the press being this interested in a sex scandal when you had a Presidential contender screwing around on his sick wife. There were even details in that one, and no confidentiality agreements to get in the way. You are kidding, right? Or is there someone other than Edwards?

Is Jeff Manto this dumb
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Southsidesox is not a message board, it's a blog. And a damn good one at that. Oops, my bad. I was thinking of southsiders.

Sox officially hire coaches
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 07:42 AM) For 3 of those guys, "Career average" is nearly all-star level. Which is why I am thinking it won't take all four to come around, three out of four with a rebound to career averages would win the division (without other implosions). I believe Robin has walked into the ideal situation.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:04 AM) If you plug the result into Google, there are 156 results that pop up with this quote. They didn't just make it up. Right, but the other stuff is one of their posters. Plus the quote is 5 years old and speaking about a specific player.

Sox officially hire coaches
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 03:58 PM) I understand the general doom and gloom entirely. The Sox's season next year will be a successful one if Adam Dunn, Jake Peavy, Alex Rios, and Gordon Beckham perform. After watching 0 of those guys perform last year, and all of them struggle or be injured for more than 1 of the previous 2 seasons, having success from all those guys seems like a long shot. For all four to perform at what level? All-Star? Career averages?

Buehrle wins Gold glove
Another sign that Thanksgiving is just around the corner . . . I was about to type Go Mark, but that looks too cold in light of his contract situation.

Is Jeff Manto this dumb
Just a reminder this was off southsidesox another internet message board. We're accepting it as correct. It's the same as taking a post from anyone here that includes a old quote from somebody which may or may not be accurate. I know it's the off season and we ware looking for anything to discuss, but this stuff becomes legend and pretty soon we all "know" what Manto is trying to do when in reality it's just some guy posting on an message board writing a feature post on what he believes Manto is trying to do.

Samuel L. Jackson
I can see the objection to him being the highest grossing actor of all time. He has had bit parts in some of the biggest box office movies. It's like after all the roles are filled let's find something for Sam our "good luck" charm.

My free comment. I'm tired of watching first pitch swinging outs, so boo in his comment. I'm even more tired of a lack of clutch hitting from guys who seem tentative, so yeah! But if that quote was from 2006, I'm guessing in those five years he may have some more refined ideas.

Whoa, are we really discussing a quote from 2006 and then part of a southsidesox "feature"? WTF

LET'S MAKE A LIST OCTOBER '11 - FAVORITE SPORTS MOVIES
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 08:58 AM) Bowling alleys have oil on the lanes. I think that's pretty much a given, but there are different ways to put oil down onto the lane to change how the ball rolls down the lane. If you throw a straight ball, the oil pattern means absolutely nothing to you. However, when you actually hook the ball, there isn't some magic force that allows it to start "curving" three-quarters of the way down the lane...instead, what the ball is doing is attempting to curve but because there is no friction - due to the oil - it simply skids down the lane. As long as there is oil, the ball simply will not turn unless the weight block within the bowling ball itself flips over and changes the direction that the ball itself is rolling all together. There are several differently shaped weight blocks too, but that's a different topic for a different day. A pretty standard house is what I've always referred to as a Christmas tree pattern, which simply means that the oil on the lane looks almost exactly like that of a Christmas tree. This is an easy shot to throw on because there is a lot of room for error. If you get it too far outside, the ball will start hooking a bit sooner and come into the pocket. If you throw it too far inside, the ball will skid for a while and still come into the pocket. Here is a decent and quick read about oil patterns with some illustrations. This will help clear it up too if what I've written here hasn't. Once you get onto the professional level, those sport shots become even more ridiculous. If you are using the ratios and typical sport shot being 2:1, pros will shoot on stuff that is 1:1 or even less. That makes for an incredibly difficult shot and one that I would probably average about 130-150 on, where on the typical house shot I average about 180-200. I thought the pattern was created by so many balls coming down the lane causing the outside to dry more. My favorite spot is between the second and third arrow heading slightly towards the gutter and swinging it back in. I even try that while playing nintendo. I haven't picked up my ball in years, was moving and pulling it out of a very ugly bag, stuck my finger tips in and cried. Damn, how can finger tips get fat.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) One of the women involved in Cain's harassment settlements wants to come forward, and her lawyer is now trying to see if Cain's public statements denying the harassment means that he has vacated the confidentiality part of the agreement and thus would allow her to do the same. Ouch, seems fair. I'm not ready to convict him based on a settlement.

Founding Fathers ~ Who ya got?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) All I can say is look at how all of them were viewed in their own times... Washington demolishes the rest of them. Actually Franklin was on par with Washington in that respect. It was Franklin's suggestion of a two house system that saved the Constitutional Convention when they could not find a compromise that the small and large states could agree upon. Franklin was one of a few, like Washington, that everyone would listen to.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 07:44 PM) Newt Gingrich can be a total jackass, i will not deny that. But he's still probably who I would vote for in the primary. I'm wondering why I will vote in the primary. If the Texas race is close, I may go vote.
