The Republican Thread
Why? Usually there is at least a good cover reason. I'm not seeing at all how the city would benefit.

Full Tilt Poker a ponzi scheme
The ponzi element comes from needing new players to pay off the old players. That was one part of their business model, holding onto money, that always fascinated me. I couldn't believe so many people were leaving so much cash with them. You wouldn't go up to a random person and say here's $500, hold it for me. Players had to know the company was operating on the fringes of the law, so there wouldn't be much legal protection.

2012 Manager's Traits
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 01:20 AM) Please stop with the Alomar/Martinez ideas. The LAST thing this team needs is another player's manager. *another* I'm not certain I would consider Oz a player's manager this season.

Most ridiculous man-crush
Good ol' #45 for the Barons, he gave up a promising career to go back to his former career. Sad Jon Rauch and almost that entire group. The Sox were going to be stocked with arms for a decade or more. They were the next Atlanta Braves. Maybe that's why I basically stopped caring about minor league players. They are like socks, just buy a lot of 'em and something will match.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) I know we're all jaded about politicians, mostly with good reason, but they aren't all the utter scumbags we sometimes assume. Maybe he's got some principles. I believe the majority, well over 95%, go in as good, honest, decent, people hoping to make a change. The bigger the stage, the more the system causes them to make compromises to stay in the game.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I'd agree with the third for sure. I also don't think any candidate looks good by bragging about how much charitable giving they do. It looks pretentious and egotistical. Yet, to me, their history of giving is something I would consider. Volunteering as well.

Does he go to the HoF wearing a Sox cap?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) Really? Oh s***. I see the actual emoticon. Well I was trying to be funny. Disregard. Tried and succeeded, just not how you intended.- Does he go to the HoF wearing a Sox cap?
Magglio Ordonez? Sox or Tiger's cap?- 2012 Manager's Traits
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Bring in a young hungry AAA guy. They need new blood. Are the veterans going to respond to a rah rah kind of guy? You know, I'm not certain I understand what style manager Ozzie is. He doesn't seem like the Rah Rah type, but he doesn't seem quiet either. He defies discription. I do know repalcing him with another him isn't the answer.- 2012 Manager's Traits
We have some extremes. Some veterans approaching their last contracts in Mark, PK, AJ, and some players entering their third or fourth season and are really counted on to contribute. The thread goes where it goes, but we do have one for who do you want, but the chances are we're going to see someone that is not a "name". Some asst from another team, maybe a minor league manager. I'm wondering what standard to use to see how he measures up versus who KW hires.- Ozzie is leaving on a jetplane
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) If the decision has been made to fire Ozzie, I bet you money already has a list of candidates in front of JR, and he has talked to every one of them. I don't think they talked with anyone, that leaks out. I believe they have a list.- 2012 Manager's Traits
We keep tossing out names, but that is a backwards way of hiring someone. A manager has to match the team. Are you looking for a teacher to guide a young team to a championship in three or four years? Are you looking for a motivator to take a group of underachieving veterans over the top? You can ask for everything, but that's impossible to get. So what kind of manager are you looking at?- Ozzie is leaving on a jetplane
My only question is when does the team announce Ozzie isn't back for next season? After the World Series? Do they have a manager in mind?- ... it's about time
How plausible is this hypothetical, Oz wanted out of his contract this year and the club said no. Or some team wanted to talk to him and the club said no? The more I think about it, the more I think Ozzie is managing like someone who wants to be fired.- Cooper and/or Ozzie status could affect MB coming back next year
Where does it say anything about Oz? He paused when asked about Coop. Maybe he paused because he already knows something that isn't public. Hell, maybe he paused because he was thinking I'll only be back if Oz is fired. And he's been a damn solid pitcher all these years. It's nice knowing you can pencil him in for 200+ innings, a bunch of quality starts, and rarely blown out. Take five starters like MB and you have a playoff team year after year.- Who is your guy for the GOP nomination?
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 01:34 PM) This is such bulls***, the idea that Republicans are stonewalling the country from getting better simply to win elections. BIG SURPRISE: People actually believe that what Obama wants to do would do MORE harm than good. GASP! NO! So it ain't so! I can't believe everyone doesn't agree with liberal fiscal policy. What a tragedy! Jenks, I believe Republicans were hoping for Obama to fail so they could regain the White House. Even before he was inaugurated there were Where's Your Hope Now? bumper stickers. So however you want to reconcile Obama failing without the country failing is fine with me.- 101-year-old Detroit woman evicted in foreclosure
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 08:36 PM) She wasn't the mortgagee from the sounds of it. Good point.- 101-year-old Detroit woman evicted in foreclosure
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) The problem is the bank cannot legally ask that question. If they do, they open themselves up to discrimination lawsuits. I'm not certain they would if it was part of an eviction process. It would probably be bad to ask her age when processing the loan ap, but I believe it would be possible to comply with the eviction process.- The Republican Thread
