  1. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 28, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) the day nurse just puts me on the monorail in the morning and then comes to take me off 11 hours later. I knew I should have saved more for my old age, my nurse just tosses me out the window . . .
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 28, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Turning this into an American political argument for government regulation or for power to business is ridiculous. When you dig through all the reasons (and I will cite some below), what it comes to is human rights in China...and they have none. This has everything to do with the way the Chinese do things, the way their governments do things, and the lack of rights of their people and what they have to do to survive in such conditions. There is give and take in everything, and that includes the fact that they're willing to take these jobs. As Americans we want our computers, iPhones, Androids, TV's, etc...and we want them as cheap yet as high quality as possible. And it's unfair of me to say "Americans" in regard to this because any non 3rd world nation benefits from these cheaper prices, including the Eurozone, Canada, etc...so it's not just an American thing helping cause this. Take that 2,000$ plasma television and make it here instead...whoops, now it's a 5,000$ television. No thank you, Sony is selling that same technology for 60% less! While this sucks, and is bad, as someone said above, it's like pissing into the wind. Why? Because if it weren't for such sweat shop jobs, these people would have no jobs, and would simply starve to death (such as many are), or turn to child prostitution (which is big there) because their government wouldn't jump to help them. Next up in this -- India. But hey, it's ok...they own 850Billion of American debt and their economy is growing at a pace never before seen!@$#@! Well stated.
  3. Wow. As long as coaches and players are not implicated, it probably will not hurt their program.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 07:21 AM) Of Business, Tex, of Business. Businesses should have every right to work employees to the point that they commit suicide. Business Saves!
  5. One of my kids tried the "homosexuality doesn't happen in nature", when I replied (falsely those damn dolphins) that sex for pleasure doesn't happen in nature so that must be "unnatural" he deflated.
  6. I am planning a summer trip to Chicago and wanting to toss in a couple 5-7 mile hikes. Any ideas? We'll be visiting Field Museum, Adler, Science and Industry, possibly Grant Park, Millenium Park, etc. This will be my girlfriends first trip to Chicago since the late 70s. The thought of an urban hike is intriguing. Possibly option that would replace hills would be interesting also.
  7. After requesting to cancel the rest of my bundle, magically now AT&T can supply DSL to my house.
  8. Yet we complain about too much government regulation . . .
  9. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:46 AM) Thanks all for the warm birthday wishes. Alas, I spent the day in Anaheim at Disneyland with the wife so it was a very fun but booze-free day. Heading out to Catalina tomorrow where I'm sure the drinks will be much easier to come by. It is so nice that someone of your age can still have fun at Disneyland.
  10. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 27, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Congo... we aren't everywhere. Cost/benefit analysis for China here is pretty straightforward. They're risking hostilities with a country that (1) has a tremendous habit of buying their s*** and (2) would absolutely decimate them in any combat situation. What real reason is there for China to piss off the USA? They probably wouldn't like to see NK go down but they are surely unwilling to mess with a few American carrier task forces moping around the area. I assume the CIA is all over those places.
  11. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) I can recall seeing it for all except the Bulls, which apart from maybe a sweat band, would be hard to do anyway. I think one of the Bears' helmets was stolen a few years back.
  12. Oops, I was too quick http://news.yahoo.com/s/time/20100526/wl_time/08599199162000 Sounds like suicide to me.

  14. QUOTE (T R U @ May 27, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) As its already been said, those games are played on the teams home field who earned it.. they aren't neutral sites so I don't really see how you can compare the two.. If you are going to put it in cold weather sites, why not just scrap the neutral stadium stuff and just have the best team host it.. then it will at least be in cold and warm places depending on who is there.. That would have worked before the NFL managed to make the Super Bowl into a week long event which is much, much, bigger than the game. The game is just one scheduled event, and with corporate entertaining being so much of the SB, having it in NY will be huge. And this is way more about having it in NY (OK New Jersey) than in cold weather.
  15. Is there any situation in the world where we are not involved in some way? I imagine China is the same way.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) Some nice shots of the construction of Hawks helmets on the Art Institute lions. I love that tradition.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) And what happens when 10 Chinese advisors are killed by a U.S. led air strike? We've seen that story before. Back channel apology and keep on playing. Here is a question, do we have enough weapons and ammo to help supply SK? /Investors are checking which plane company supplies either side and increasing their position. There is money in wars.
  18. It will be a war by proxy. At most we'll see advisers speaking Chinese and English.
  19. Meanwhile weapons and ammunition sales reps are gearing up for a great third quarter in sales. The R&D boys are under pressure to come up with something new to gain market share. Mortuary supply companies are printing some extra catalogs. Johnson and Johnson is developing new supplies for the Korean market. Adoption companies are planning on their Christmas "Adopt a Korean Orphan" advertising blitz.
  20. HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY!! Linked for you convenience
  21. I'd rather China have those nukes than NK
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) If you're providing aid for only 1 side, then the other side might as well shoot you. Correct. But if you are training their side in advanced medical care, are you now abetting? The US, for example, provides the training for the medics, should the Red Cross provide the rtaining for the Taliban medics? I see where a line could be crossed.
