QUOTE (Cknolls @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Yeah we never see Clarence Paige or Garrison Keillor weekly in the conservative Tribune, or Thomas Frank's weekly column in the WSJ. exactly, and thank you for pointing that out But that doesn't seem to even raise an eyebrow . . .

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Tex, if the paper had an editorialist write an editorial AGAINST unions, THAT would be a dissenting opinion. No, they allowed a pro union editorial while they themselves were anti-union. Sounds like allowing a dissenting opinion to appear. How would a anti-union newspaper printing an anti-union editorial, be a dissenting opinion?

perhaps more of a window than divide. They are a "band with a couple nice hits" for me. I do not know too many people in their 50s that would have Pearl Jam on their list.

Unbelievably more normal than Boy Scouts. I know I have this weekend off. I know when I will have vacations.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 07:54 PM) I'm surprised my ranking of Lynyrd Skynyrd at #12 is the highest vote they received. I had them higher, than lower, then off the list, then I think around 15. I was crazy with this list.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 07:46 AM) So they had an editorialist write a pro-union piece and now the times management, which is probably far, far removed from that, must only hire union workers. Another amazing post. Yeah, a newspaper allowing dissenting opinions to be published. That's terrible. Thankfully, proper conservative newspapers would not allow dissenting opinions to be published.

Pimms! I use to love it with a splash of soda and a polo match. Nice idea. Thanks. I totally allowed brandy drinks to slip my mind.

Really looking forward to doing some camping. Having a normal schedule is going to be very nice.

Long story short, hanging out at a new bar last night with my bff and she was in the mood to try something different, on the plus side it did involve me, however, it also involved the bartender. Sadly, I was at a loss to recommend a good fall drink that a restaurant/bar would produce. She was not interested in anything fruity or pedestrian. Thoughts?

awesome btw, shall we start a comments thread and hold one thread for just the results without replies? That way no one is scribbling over your Picasso . . .

Newspapers will eventually outsource to foreign workers as well to stay afloat. Bits and bytes travel well.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) I've said it before, and I will say it again. Brooks Boyer is an all around great guy. He is a huge find for the Sox. When my son earned his Eagle Scout rank, we solicited congratulation letters from a wide range of people, from Presidents to sports teams. By far the coolest letters came from the White Sox (who also tossed in a cap), the Cowboys, Nintendo (wrote a great letter, talked about Eagle Scouts at their company), and EA Games who sent him a soon to be released racing game. 80% of the letters where very generic, congrats on your special day, type thing. They could use it for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. About half a dozen wrote letters that were actually personalized enough to stand out, the White Sox were one of those.

awesome if it was an accident, even better if it was on purpose.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 04:11 AM) Well right, but they charged him with arson...I thought you were saying they charged him with something accidental and still fried him. No. I see what you meant. Another bit of tragedy is some of this was brought to light before he was executed by Gov. Perry seemingly did not review the new material.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 03:58 AM) Wait a second....when you say accidental, do you mean that was part of the mistake they made, or that is what he was actually supposed to have done? The fire was accidental, but outdated forensic and fire science testimony was used to convict him. The "experts" in the area testified that the fire must have been arson, turns out that was not the case. Witnesses changed their testimony once they heard the guy may have set the fire. And of course, the guy was poor and didn't have Scheck, Cochran, Bailey, Shapiro, Kardashian, and Dershowitz defending him. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/09...07fa_fact_grann

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 09:22 PM) *thumbs up* Considering where you live, are you going to teach it in Spanglish? According to the demographics, there are a few white kids and a black kid somewhere. The other 1000+ students are Hispanic, and almost everyone is bilingual. I remember being amazed in high school when we had a bilingual foreign exchange student, I thought it was so cool to speak two languages. For these kids it is a way of life. I do have two recent immigrants who do not speak English, the other kids translate and we're doing fine.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 14, 2009 -> 03:53 AM) Ahh, very good, Tex, very good. Although no one would ever get the chair for an accidental killing... Thanks, but actually he got the chair for an accidental fire that killed his children.
-
We executed an innocent man in Texas. Who should go to the chair for his murder? Shouldn't his parents have the same revenge the state took on their son?

From what I've seen in Texas, getting into the alternative cert program basically requires a Bachelors and a pulse. It was getting hired that is tough. If there is a teacher shortage, it ain't around here.
