Garland thread continues in Diamond Club
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) Well perhaps we should all just pull an Oedipus Rex by pulling our eyes out and f***ing our mothers. I wasn't expecting much in this thread. That was gold.

Short Term Apartment Help
It's probably an area by area thing. The apartment services here have all the better (re: expensive) properties and craigs list has the cheap, broken screens, and trashed out areas. I always figured the guys on craigslist were too cheap and always looking for the cheapest way. But I can see in major cities how that would be different.

You know what I hate?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 01:52 PM) I also hate Chicago winters. Why do I keep putting up with them?

You know what I hate?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) Movies are very loud at the theater. Chances of a baby sleeping throughout are slim. Often times it is the transition times that will wake them up. Either really noisy to suddenly quiet or the reverse. But over all babies can sleep through anything. This debate is almost always along the lines of those with babies and those without.

You know what I hate?
QUOTE (Steff @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) I took Bri to many rated R movies over the summer. I'm saying there should be a time cutoff. If you aren't in Kill Bill at 2 in the afternoon why can't I go see it with her? I agree. It's not the rating, it's the time of day *and* if the parent has the common sense to move to the lobby of the baby can't be quieted in a few seconds.

Short Term Apartment Help
Interesting. I thought owners turned to Craig's list so no one would be looking over their shoulder.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) I don't agree, but I'm not much of a party-centric person either. I have a few reasons, but the main one is party affiliation controls committee assignments, etc. I believe by maintaining the party label, it takes some of the politics out of it. There is less of a potential political gain/loss when the seat can't move form one side of the aisle to another.

Ink / Toner Refillers
I've used Cartridge World and Walgreens with success. I've tried doing my own, and that sucked.

Rod Blagojevich officially facing federal corruption charges
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) I prefer the direct vote. And as for replacements, each state should have its method of choice, though for my state I'd prefer a special election over all this nomination nonsense. I've mentioned this before. IMHO, the replacement should be from the same party. I'm cool with the Gov nominating and the assembly confirming, but replace with someone from the same party. When the House or Senate are equally, or closely divided, it just adds another layer of b.s. in the replacement choice.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) I'll bet it was so he could take the oath on the Quran, like he really wanted to... [/GREEN!!!] nicely played sir.- Education Discussion
Interesting. Forced, free labor to jump start a career called internship = good Forced, free labor for the money to attend college called community service = bad /carry on- Education Discussion
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) most students in an engineering program that I knew in college thought these classes were a joke. no offense. They are a joke if the person does not value the subject.- Education Discussion
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) I think that there needs to be a standardization in some areas, but not in others. Math is pretty black and white. Science? I think standardization goes too far. History's history - although the political slant that is taught troubles me because kids aren't taught to see both sides of an issue and then learn to choose for themselves. I think standardization is good for curriculum, NOT how it's taught. It's like reading a college course guide. In this class, you will learn, XYZ. How it's taught should be left to the teacher to teach to his/her strengths. However, how much of that has the teacher been taught? Standardization is coming via the free market. There are fewer and fewer textbook offerings and of those, Texas and California, via legal requirements, are setting the tone for the rest of the country.- 2009 Inauguration
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Well to be honest, I bet about a billion humans believe in the easter bunny and Santa as well. Wow. I have no idea how to respond. I guess see my above post.- 2009 Inauguration
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) Nice try. Bringing in Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny is Mocking if you have the intelligence to know the difference between something that several billion humans believe in, and a child's fantasy. (Taking in all the world's religions that believe in a higher power(s).) Amazingly ignorant if you don't know the difference. I prefer to think you are intelligent enough to know the difference. But like many liberal democrats, you would be very comfy in a Communist country.- 2009 Inauguration
QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) All the Obama love around this place (meaning my job) is really getting to be overdone. I supported him and voted for him but cmon already people he isnt the answer TO EVERY ONE OF YOUR PROBLEMS. Do you think he feels the pressure?- Education Discussion
QUOTE (Soxy @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Honestly, something needs to be done about education from birth on up. The change that is needed is away from local property taxes dictating the quality of the school.- 2009 Inauguration
I think unity would have been harmed if Obama was the first President to not offer a prayer. It seems we elected someone who has spoke about his faith and the role it has had in his life. His credentials in this area are well known and understood. Plus they seem above reproach. Unlike some candidates, and Presidents, I believe his faith is genuine and not something orchestrated to win voted in certain demographics. To me, it would have been hypocritical if he would then turn away from a long tradition of offering a prayer. I wonder if some do not agree with the petitions placed in the prayer. That would be interesting. I thought the petitions were general enough that Dems and Reps would agree.- 2009 Inauguration
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) Heres the thing, why must we have a prayer before the oath is given? Arent we trying to show that many races, creeds and religions are what make up America, and then we do a VERY Christian prayer? f***ing strange. What happened to the seperation of church and state? We have that freedom in America. We can worship and practice our faith. Sadly, in many countries around the world, that is not possible. Either they have a state sponsored religion, or they allow no religion at all. The Constitution protects our religious freedoms from the government state. It would seem that many people here would prefer if the government denied citizens there right to worship in public. I believe the authors of the Constitution sought to protect us from that possibility.- The Republican Thread
The court system found them guilty and imposed a sentence. Those of us that live, work, and play in this area are nervous about agents that may feel empowered to shoot at will. Agents, understandably, are very frustrated that they can not pursue suspects into Mexico. The suspects know this, and quite frankly, act like total assholes once they are back across. They taunt and shout obscenities. So law enforcement become frustrated. But they are law enforcement, not military. And like I said if, for example, Schaumburg cops shot an unarmed suspect at Busse Woods, I suspect some people who picnic, fish, and enjoy Busse Woods would be concerned about continuing this behavior.- 2009 Inauguration
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) You're right. Maybe they can incorporate other mythical figures like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. Faith is difficult for some people. They feel threatened and prefer to mock.- 2009 Inauguration
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Bulls***. That's completely out of context. His comments immediately before what Tex's paraphrase was "People are often surprised when I am asked who I most look up to in the Senate and I say Teddy Kennedy". Then he said what Tex said, and that's a completely different point. Let's stop the horse s*** now, ok? Sorry, I am working and only half listening, I missed that part.- 2009 Inauguration
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) What did he say? Basically, and to paraphrase a little, when asked about Kennedy's collapse "Well you know we do not agree philosophically or politically, but he has been around forty years."- Loft Bed Shelf
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Ah, is he living in university housing (dorm)? If so, that makes sense they'd have that rule. I know my dorm did... So yeah, I guess making your own shelf isn't really possible. My experience with lofts have been in my fraternity house, where it doesn't matter what we do to the walls. Yeah, the Freshmen and most Sophomores at Texas State University are required to live in Campus Housing. - 2009 Inauguration
