  1. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Holy crap that's a lot of water. In related news, The Texas Tech swim team will be holding meets in the football stadium . . .
  2. Hurricane Dolly 2 nights in Michigan City, Indiana You do realize FlaSoxxJim will have ten pages and that was just 3 months.
  3. The Border Fence is behind schedule and current projections have this boondoggle at $400,000,000 over budget. And it will not solve the biggest problem, American businesses need workers willing to do some pretty crappy jobs in agriculture. Migrant work just sucks, but we have hundreds of thousands of people willing to do that work, just to the south of us. During war time we were quick to implement the Bracero Program when we did not have enough young men to sustain our ag industry. Too bad the current political climate calls for US educated kids to work these jobs.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 07:44 AM) 81-65, +1 over MIN 13 games remain. We need breathing room. And we will not be getting any breathing room. Neither team has enough to deliver a knock out punch. I'm picturing a final weekend series with CQ, Joe, and Paulie all bandaged up with crutches, wheelchairs coming out like some Civil War fife and drum team.
  5. Some will mock me, but I truly believe we have two good to excellent candidates. Both parties nominated the candidates I hoped they would. Both candidates have demonstrated a commitment to the public good throughout their careers. They both, IMNSHO, fumbled their VP selections in attempts to "balance". So I am, as Kap would say, /popping some corn / and waiting for the show.
  6. Nature exposes our weaknesses. I was asked about the home we just placed at camp. Up on top of a raised slab, on a point jutting out into the Laguna Madre. I said basically we just flipped off mother nature and said come and get it.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) I don't think we established a government to bailout corporations that make bad business decisions Oh, by the way, the auto industry is now asking for a bailout. I don't think we should bail out businesses either. But I do believe when a "bail out" is in the best interest of America, we should consider it. Kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face. To say we should never ever bail out a business ties our hands needlessly.
  8. Plus a good old fashioned payment before an election is always a nice way to win votes. The economy is slowing right before an election OMG!! The other party may get in!! Quick buy the voters something and tell them someone else will be paying for it. So now we have all the spending and half the paying for it.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) So the National Weather Service, when you paraphrase, is saying "get the f*** out of Houston, seriously, if you stay you're going to die." CNN Breaking News

Did y'all hear her daughter is pregnant?
  11. Kap, buy mosquito spray, like a case of the stuff. The damn things are still everywhere even after weeks of aerial spraying. Good luck to everyone.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Oh yeah? And if we finish the season one game behind the Twins? Every game is the most important game of the season from today until the division is clinched. Yet every game since April will have the exact same value in the record.

Bottom line who is going to a September 11th vigil tonight? The Boy Scouts here were doing three across the area, one by one they stopped do to poor attendance. This year a couple people were upset that one was not being held, but no one wanted to do the work necessary to make it happen. So no, it just is not as moving as it was 6 years ago.
  14. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Hmm, Bill Clinton's in the news again. . . I figured I'd better beat the wingnuts to it. beat what?

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Oh yea, you had the file not the scraper thing. I would guess that's like the stone. At my place they boil the stones and take a nice hot one out for each use. And they put the dirty ones in disinfectant before they are boiled. The razor thing they described sounds like a carrot or potato peeler. That blade thing sounds scary I can't even begin to think why they would want to cut when the file or stone works pretty quick. A hot stone sounds better than the file. Well I could not believe they used blades, so I did a little research and found http://blogs.iht.com/tribtalk/travel/globespotters/?p=258 Ahem, no thanks

QUOTE (Steff @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) So I asked the ladies about these scraper things and they said they don't use them # 1. because they are not safe - because they can cut into the skin too deep - and # 2. that there is no way to appropriately sanatize the blade between customers. One of the techs said where she formerly worked at she was given 1 blade a day. Ick! They also said the that the pumice stone and some elbow grease is all that's needed to get dead skin off the bottom of the feet. Tex, I would not go back to that place. Thanks Steff, Interesting, everyone I spoke with down here reported either the file or an electric version. I'll have to check around. I will say the tool looked pretty clean to me. She scrubbed it periodically while doing my feet. It didn't seem that much different than manicure tools. The one blade a day thing is what confuses me. This wasn't cutting at all. I don't see how they could change any blades. Do they throw away the pumice stone after one use? The thing they used on me seemed more like that. A rough surface, not a cutting surface. More like if they cut the pumice stone thin and added a handle. God the more I think about it, if it is a blade, I'd get the hell out of there in an instant. Plus did I mention the massage chair?
  17. This year's Distinguished Lecturer Series at my University was announced. Jeff Corwin, Judy Sheppard, Jehan Sadat, and Dr. Ballard. I'm thinking, isn't he dead? Why her, she will just yell about the Bush, who is she?, and what did he do? Oops, Jeff Corwin isn't Steve Irwin, Judy Sheppard is not the woman that camps outside The Crawford Ranch and chats with A-List Celebrity Dems, Jehan Sadat is pretty interesting, and he discovered the Titanic. D'Oh. Didn't they already kind of know it was at the bottom of the Atlantic? So three of four seem interesting. I'm probably most interested in what Judy Sheppard has to say.
  18. QUOTE (Soxy @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 03:01 PM) I was opening the door this morning and I caught my toe-nail. I took a huge chunk of skin out from underneath the nailbed and have a decent bruise under the nail. I've also got quite a gash going on the tip of my toe. As well as significant bleeding from the sides of the toe-nail. It hurts real bad. Anyone have any tips for maybe how to keep the nail from falling off or how to alleviate any pain or whatever? Thanks in advance. If you did extensive damage, you will lose the nail. It isn't as bad as it seems. It will grow back and you will have beautiful feet once again. If the pressure gets too bad, pierce the nail with a needle using a kind of drilling maneuver. It will result in immediate relief. The nail through the skin and under the nail is far worse. Control pain with whatever self medicating option you prefer. Alcohol, gobbling Motrin or Aleeve.
  19. QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) This post has been flagged by The Department of Redundancy Department. One of those corner infielders is also team captain. The corner outfielder is also the possible league MVP. You are found GUILTY of trying to make two scenarios seem like four scenarios. Punishment - DEATH BY HANGING.....TWICE!!!! [/green with a green background] I plead guilty as charged. But seriously kudos for knowing which player filled which double role.
  20. Great guy and a perfect way to kick off the top 10. Some guys are just Chicago guys. Paul is one of them.
  21. From a PR standpoint, KW managed to replace a couple guys, Maggs and Frank, with guys we could really like. That isn't a knock on Maggs, I loved watching in him a Sox uniform, but look at who KW needed to get to replace him. While some could argue he went out on a sour note, everyone won in this case. The Tigers took a gamble, and won. The Sox got Dye. And Maggs is earning the kind of money he deserves.
  22. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) I don't understand why XYZ isn't called up and given a chance. I edit slightly so my answer isn't led too far astray. At this point in the season, teams are trying to eliminate as much chance as possible. The devil you know is preferably to guesses.

  24. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) only based on 120K responses? can't be that accurate...whats that like 3 people per county? And whats with that county in Minnesota jutting into Canada? Looks like its around the international falls area Check a detailed map of the area, there is little more than a town that kind of juts into Canada.
