CTU is Going on Strike
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) I believe that it's illegal to fire striking workers, so the alternative is not "no job." Fine, alternative is not getting paid.

CTU is Going on Strike
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) I didn't ask if other people had to deal with these issues; they obviously do. I asked if you had the ability to fight against them, would you? Considering the alternative is no job, then no, I would not.

CTU is Going on Strike
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) How many people posting in this thread would simply accept longer hours, reduced job protection and no increase in pay if you had the option to fight against it? Well, I'm salaried so it's expected to get my job done, no matter the hours, so that part doesn't matter. Job protection? Relies on the company's well doing and fluctuates with the economy, but I also have put myself in a position where my company needs my skills moreso than my teammates. No increase in pay? Well once again depends on my job performance, I can easily not get any raise annually if I don't do a good enough job. Of course, if I am consistently underperforming that much I would be fired. So pretty much I deal with those things already in my job at some level, as I imagine everyone does in the private sector.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:59 PM) With Zook we had a .500 team with NFL talent and a coach who kept you on your toes. Now we have a .500 team with mediocre talent and a boring coach. Advantage Zook. This has to be sarcasm, there's just no way a sane person can see it this way.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) ^^^ i see 'technical' people that have degrees in totally unrelated, easy degree stuff, all the time. but they are all over 30. new grads have limited opportunity. Many of those technical people went out and got certified/studied those topics on their own so that they could build their skillset and therefore become attractive to more employers. I work in an area we we have a huge range of backgrounds, a brief sampling: -No college -Military -Nuclear Physicist -IS/IT -CS And the manager was in customer service prior to getting into SAP (got involved in CRM). That's just from a team of 9 people, in a highly technical field.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) I've said it before I'll say it again, I've interviewed at a lot of companies, and a lot of those companies the senior management has had english degrees or odd degrees. This whole "you need a degree in business to be a part of a business" is garbage. But I love how we are blaming laziness as the reason unemployment is 8.1 percent. Not the unbelievable amount of private debt that was accumalated in the 00s by a different generation. The reason why I blame laziness/unwillingness to be creative in job search is because I've seen it in almost everyone of my friends who didn't land a job out of college. Hell, my current roommate only started looking for work when his parents started pushing him too, and he reached out to me because my dad works at a company that he was interested in. And there are plenty of jobs out there, just in areas people may not want to be in. You can go get certified in areas of IT Security and have multiple job offers waiting for you. Sure, not everyone is going to be able to do this, but the point is there are areas out there in desperate need for workers, and many of these positions pay well. It may not be even in the top 5 choice for job for that person, but if it can pay the bills and lead to other opportunities then you have to be flexible.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) Now ask these youngsters what they got their degrees in. Because, you know, they have "a" degree...so the world owes them a living. The problem with a lot of these degrees I've been seeing as of late, is they're from what we like to call "degree mills", which are nothing more than "arts" degrees. AKA useless. They may actually be degrees that would be somewhat attractive to employers, but the student, imo, has no idea how to utilize that degree or approach employers with that degree. For example, a psychology degree, many may feel their future with that is in academics, only to realize that field got hit hard fiscally by the economy. Instead of going back for a Masters in it, or taking an $8/hr job, they could apply that degree to a multitude of different positions at businesses. I know my company would more than welcome that degree in Supply Chain or Sales, as long as they have the right mindset for those areas.

Luckily I work in an area with a reported close to 0% unemployment. I'm also working at a company that is growing in a big way, and we expect to go from $8b to around $15b in the next 5 years. That said, I would say 90% of the friends I had from college with a business or engineering degree have a job right now (the ones that didn't get one seriously tried not to it seemed, or had extreme reasons such as dressing too punk rock to interviews, *shakes head*).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 08:58 AM) Nicely done. Paul Sullivan @PWSullivan Bryce Harper on the Cubs purposely throwing at him: "I'd be pretty ticked off if I was getting my teeth kicked in all week, too." The kid's an asshole, but assholes can be funny.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) Well I guess my definition of good is the normal definition of good. God is good I guess would mean having the qualities of the best father you know. Why don't people care about God anymore? Crazy world we live in. Kudos to the Democrats for returning God to their platform. Why do you care if I do?

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) You took the rumor of a guy on the street internet poster and said "it doesn't look good." Sorry if I didn't take the bait, and if people at USCF like jenksismyb**** reported were saying it was true with a press conference today, when the White Sox didn't even know about, you know there are people who want this to be true. You would have to be very naive to think there aren't posters on here who are dissappointed this isn't true. First, I said in today's baseball world where positive drug tests are coming out way too frequently, combined with the power surge at age 35, there was a lot going against AJ. That DOES NOT mean I hoped it was true. Second, Jenks talking about the press conference was a potential reason he came up with why it may not have been announced yet, he never connected it to the sources that were claiming that they heard AJ tested positive. So stop trying to connect those two. If there are posters here who would be disappointed then they sure as hell haven't posted yet.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 06:17 AM) Does this mean the press conference in which the White Sox forgot to invite the press is cancelled? A lot of people around the country are going to be pissed. A few on this board as well. You are the most insufferable poster here. NO ONE has said they hope this rumor is true.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) The good thing is it doesn't matter how it looks. It only matters if AJ tested positive and loses his appeal. Well I meant that it doesn't bode well for AJ or the Sox, not that the Sox reputation is getting hurt just by a rumor.

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 02:50 PM) So you saying are everyone needs someone to go on record, and if no one will go on record, how is it that this rumor is out there? A Score guy knows supposedly, so they tell their staff, but tell them only to tell their friends? Why would someone with credibility not be an anonymous source, especially if everyone supposedly hates AJ? Just because some don't like AJ I get is reason to believe this rumor is true, just like when DRose tore his ACL again rehabbing. I guess a lot of people buy the National Equirer and believe everything they read, although that's more credible than this source at this time. Maybe its true, but I would really doubt it, and if it was, how could Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein not at least vaguely reference it? I REALLY hope this rumor isn't true, and I have nothing against AJ, I actually like him on the Sox. That said, if AJ was on another team, and with the year he is having, and with the number of players still getting busted (not to mention the type of years they have when getting busted) it just weighs heavily against him. Clearly I'm not saying AJ should be punished now without a confirmation of the rumor, just saying that I'm dreading a potential announcement that it is true. EDIT: In terms of the Score not reporting it: -AJ is a big guy in terms of media interviews, pissing him off without proof would be bad -MLB may be very stringent on these rumors ever since the Braun incident, who knows what type of punishment there may be for leaks of positive testing before the whole ordeal is over (appeal and all).

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) Its a rumor, most rumors are false. In that sense, since no one is reporting it, its "looking good". If Mark Gonzalez is hearing rumors of it then it has more substance. There are just so many things going against AJ, including the current MLB environment where players are still getting busted too frequently.
-
AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
Let's just say if AJ was on another team and this leaked out I'd pretty much believe it was true at this point. Of course we'll see in the next few days/weeks more about it but it's not looking good.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) I'm sure they'll remove Q and start Axelrod and Santiago this weekend. Mercy the rotation depth is bad right now. With as aggressive as KW was this season, Im just shocked he didn't pick someone up.
