Glad this is finally changing and glad those who are in favor of racist mascots are upset. Not really sure how anyone could defend that mascot.

I've got liberal friends who gobble his s*** up, I try to talk sense into them but it's like talking to Hannity/Fox personalities, reason won't prevail.

Michigan State is so good. -
Fair warning to all, name calling violates our board rules and we will enforce them. Warnings have been sent out privately, but if we see additional name calling we will act on it. Any questions, please reach out to me or any other mod/admin. Carry on with the legitimate discussion!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 08:23 AM) I never understand the whole conference pride thing. If you hate a team 364 days a year, how are you going to root for them that one day of the year? I hope OSU loses every playoff game they play. The B1G winning a national title does nothing to make Illinois stop sucking. Not to mention, the reason all of these SEC teams have to fire coaches every 3 years is because Alabama is so much better than everyone else. If they keep winning and keep recruiting, it just hurts the other SEC teams in the long run, it's harder and harder to make the playoffs. Better conferences helps with recruiting, better conferences means more tv money, better conferences means more exposure. For the Illinois reference, let's be real, Illinois isn't sucking because OSU won a national title. Illinois sucks because of terrible coaches. But, because we are in an incredibly financially healthy conference, we were able to spend $8mm+ on our coaching staff and raise money to build a new practice/team facility. So wanting the conference to succeed, gain in reputation, earn larger tv deals, fan bases, etc seems pretty straight forward to me. Of course, there are teams I will never root for still

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 11:37 PM) http://amp.slate.com/news-and-politics/201...impression=true An interesting read on this. Using that language in court, that can't be normal? Did the government assign their worst prosecutors on this case? I just don't understand how it could get to that point considering this was domestic terrorism.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 02:44 PM) Will even Louisville be anything w/o Lamar? Yea good call, they are probably more like a 5 win team without him.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 10:59 AM) Someone tweeted Georgia and Alabama's schedule next year. Cupcake City. Alabama is at least playing Louisville at a neutral location, but yea the rest of their non-cons are pretty pathetic.

Love that the schools had a bet on the Braggin Rights game: <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"> -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 7, 2018 -> 08:43 PM) I hope you Northwestern people enjoy your new RB coach. Seemed like only a minor upgrade for him school wise, must’ve been a big pay increase? Fitz did well though, hate saying that.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 12:25 PM) Case against the Bundys dismissed "with prejudice," meaning they can't be tried again. The Bundys are all free despite an armed standoff with BLM in Nevada and an armed occupation of federal government property in Oregon. The f***? How did the prosecutors mess this up so badly?

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 08:44 AM) Doesn't look like Illinois is going to turn it around this year. They still have time, but an 0-3 hole is rough. Big Ten is down, their best non-conference win was Missouri....not looking good. I think it's time to switch up the starting line-up. Williams and Frazier have clearly outplayed Lucas/Smith/Alstork. They're playing more minutes, but they just can't afford to start in these huge holes. That 2-17 start may have been the worst I've ever seen Illinois play, and there has been some bad basketball over the last decade. Quite frankly, I'm disappointed in Underwood. Thought he would have more of an immediate impact. We clearly don't have enough talent right now, but really thought he could scheme and coach the team to more wins. But as of now, the offense looks pedestrian and extremely inconsistent, and the defense gives up a lot but forces turnovers at least. I hoped but didn't expect us to make the tournament, but didn't really believe we would know before 2018 that we wouldn't make the tourney. This is a larger rebuild than I thought, and not getting a big man or a wing in 2018 is now concerning. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 04:44 PM) It's kind of weird to stand up when alone in your living room and nobody's in the house but yourself. Somebody might accuse you of talking to yourself. Seems odd to think about yourself when you’re disrespecting the military.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 2, 2018 -> 01:38 PM) But I stand during the anthem at games just not in private or in bars. I think standing in a bar could get you punched by the way. It'd seem like you are being abnoxious again in drawing attention to yourself. I did not know many people stood in private. That practice of standing alone during the anthem in a house or apartment surprised me that people do it. Not standing at the game is apparently a way to possible get punched as well, so I don't think that criteria you set is consistent. If you are saying you need to stand for the anthem, then stand whether in public or privacy. If you think it's wrong to sit or kneel during the anthem then you should hold yourself to the same standard.

I haven't done any VR yet, but saw a commercial for PS4 VR with a guy playing Skyrim, and that has me intrigued. Anyone use the PS4 VR yet and have feedback?

Terrible defense by Oklahoma, we’ve got a ballgame.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 31, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) My #BlackMirror s4 rankings. 1. USS Callister 2. Hang the DJ 3. Black Museum (Above 3 are excellent) 3. Metalhead 4. Crocodile (Above 2 are good) 5. Arkangel is ok. Yea I could change the top 3 but overall that’s a good summary. I really wanted more story in crocodile.

When I first heard of swating I laughed at it's ridiculousness, not really believing it, but there have been a lot of stories around it now. This is by far the saddest, just so unbelievably stupid. I also think it's time to revise how we accept these calls, unfortunately there needs to be screening through the pranks (and those pranks need to be punished severely).

I hope they do a full investigation and I hope MLB takes a strong stance against this behavior.

I found out this past weekend that my aunt (who is now 60ish) was sexually assaulted when she was about 15/16 years old or so. She's kept it bottled up almost the entire time, her sisters and her brother (my dad) knew a little bit, but essentially my grandmother and the police told her to not speak of it again as it would make it worse for her. So this new wave of #metoo has given her some courage to speak up about it and she is still emotionally scarred from it (very noticeable with some of her actions and the way she spoke about it). Some of the twitter comments in the Passan tweet thread just piss me off so much, seeing how much this has haunted my aunt and how she was told to handle it and how that affected her and then seeing some of that s***? Glad those guys are on the internet because I'd probably be in jail if I encountered one of them in real life.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) I just don't think someone's race, sex or religion is important to a conversation. If greg was a black muslim woman would it be okay for Balta to articulate that is why he doesn't understand something? I think what makes up a person and their experiences is definitely important to a conversation. We do have to be careful on stereotyping and straight dismissals but understanding why someone has an opinion or why their experiences influence their views is incredibly important to understanding one another.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) The founding fathers purposefully tried to keep any reference to religion out of this government, why are the evangelicals trying so hard to force it in? Its weird to me. "in god we trust" wasnt added until the 1950's because of the same s***. There were less religions to be concerned about in America during 1776, once Christians feel threatened they always go on the offensive.

Illinois lands 4 star Verdis Brown, former FSU commit and had a crazy finish line (Mizzou thought they got him).
