QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) Bernie would have destroyed Trump. All the concerns of Bernie being a democratic socialist would have gone out the window. Not all of them, I know a lot of republicans who still tear into his policies when he's brought up.

Plus no one is taking a half day to go to Champaign for a football game, crowds are going to be terrible. That said, hopefully it means no more 11am starts EVER again. -
I voted early yesterday, took about an hour and a half. Not great but still better than trying to go Tuesday before work, not because it would take longer but because I would have to do it early in the AM as I typically don't get back from the burbs until really late at night.

Had a wedding yesterday at guaranteed rate filed in the club area. Nice venue and was cool with all the six history stuff they have there but you couldn't go into the stadium/field area itself (besides the wedding party for photos). Didn't really expect us to be able to do that but would've been awesome. Still it was a great venue and had a really fun night.

All good points Jas, and why I'm leaning towards not using the title. I talked to my boss more about it today at lunch, I used the word "promotion" and guess that wasn't right. I am just being slotted into the position that best terms the work I am/will be doing. So even though it's a level higher, has an increase in pay and part of the Manager Incentive Program (new for me) it's not a "promotion". He doesn't agree with that either but apparently HR is saying it's not a promotion.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) My girlfriend needs a job that pays better than a Server gets paid, preferably is a job working with kids, and is flexible around college classes. Anyone got any ideas? She's living paycheck to paycheck right now and is short on rent some months. Tutoring? I had friends in college and post college that tutored as a supplement and made bank (depending on the family of the student).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) 1. Being told you're getting a promotion and getting a promotion are two very different things. Unless you've signed something confirming that on X day in March your title and compensation change, then this is just a promise you have to hope they'll keep. 2. Unless you've performed in a position, you shouldn't misrepresent yourself unless you don't plan on using anyone at your current company as a reference. I'd personally also expect your LinkedIn title to match your resume title. 1. Very true. This company doesn't sign anything in these types of "offers" or whatever you want to call them. 2. I'm starting to lean towards not using it yet, it's unfortunate but I know if I was hiring someone then I would feel a bit weirded out at least by it. It sucks for me, because like i said it's a big title promotion and makes me way more attractive (plus the fact that I can market another promotion) but consciously I don't think I can do it. And like you said, I'd expect it to match Linkedin, and I definitely don't feel comfortable putting it out there where my colleagues would see it and know it's not active yet.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) Russ, I think it's impossible for us to know whether you should make a fuss or not. If the organization is as big as it sounds like it is, making a fuss would likely get you nowhere. As for the use of the title, I would go ahead and throw it on my resume. Fair point, and you're right it wouldn't make any difference. I thought about it a lot last night and decided it wasn't worth it, HR isn't going to change because of anything I say or do anyways. But it was a good vent session =)

After a year and half of waiting, my team got new job titles/descriptions. During this time we were told that no one could be promoted or talk about promotions since they didn't have an accurate job title to move them into (yea...). Today I was told that I was getting promoted into one of the new job titles (yay!) but it wouldn't take effect until March during our normal ACR (annual compensation review) period. So I have two question for y'all: 1) Do I make a fuss about waiting another 4 months for this to go into effect? They already know I'm pretty upset about where I'm at currently (not just title but getting work dumped on and limited advancement opportunities outside of this team thus far). While I'm grateful to get promoted, it just seems asinine that they make you wait 1.5 years for new job titles then tack on 4 more months for really what is an arbitrary reason. 2) I've been looking at a lot of jobs externally, one big reason I wanted the title sooner is because it would make me WAY more attractive on the market. Do you guys think I could advertise that job title on a resume and if asked explain the situation? FYI the last time I was promoted was later in the year (closer to ACR season) and that didn't impact it at all except that they included the annual bump with my promotion's raise (tacked it on top).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) I don't have a WSJ subscription but am generally curious - does Guaranteed Rate count as one of the "nonbank lenders with lower standards" being referred to in this WSJ Piece that are taking up a larger share of the mortgage market? I don't believe they are a bank, not sure if they are on the list though.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) Some places are only charging $75 to get in, but you don't get a seat. Cubby bear is $100, I find that insane but more than enough people are paying it but whatever, not my money.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 03:49 PM) Because just about any other Republican would have beaten Hillary. Hillary's history is easier to hide when Trump is literally rewriting new lows every week. A solid candidate without so much distraction is able to legitimately expose Hillary way more. (not really replying to your post just adding on).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) I miss the days when I stressed about B-ball. Now I don't know even know when Illinois is playing. Maybe this winter that will change... I sure hope so, if not then its time to restart. -
Oliver has been great but has a ton of jokes (mainly his metaphors) that fall flat. Where he excels is being able to go deeper into meaningful topics and actually explain them out with comedy and some knowledge. Noah has some funny moments but quite frankly it's wayyy to liberal friendly. I know Trump provides a lot of material and everything but it's gotten pretty unbearable. I never thought Samantha Bee was that funny on the Daily Show, I've been impressed with what she's been able to do on her own.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) about time for that hilton magic when are we gonna schedule that illinois-iowa state home and home? So eager to beat up on us again? You guys got a really good recruit in Terrence Lewis, if we had known Goodwin wasn't coming to Illinois he would've been a priority recruit for us. -
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) Unfortunately we're stuck in the Microsoft Office world. No way I can get the partners to try something new. A lot of companies/people are like that. I think it's probably a worthwhile venture for you guys, getting out of handling the infrastructure for that stuff makes sense but have a very clear plan for DR in case 365 goes down (which it will). And I'm sure you guys will handle it well since it's a lawfirm but have very clear language in any contract with Microsoft for SLAs and what happens if they don't meet them. One thing to remember though, that support may be 24/7 but if you have an emergency you may not be getting the response you are used to. Especially as a small office, MS may not truly care about getting you back up ASAP. Your contract will be insignificant to them, so if you are used to having an immediate answer/fix for IT problems just be wary of that change. Shoot, we've already seen issues with MS response/outages and we have a very little portion of our exchange environment in their cloud.

We're looking at Azure right now, going through a POC with them currently. It's straight garbage, if I was in charge of this project I would have run far away by now. Hopefully we look at AWS before purchasing anything. We are going fullsteam ahead with O365 though it seems. The department that wants that drinks the Microsoft koolaid hard.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 08:08 AM) Battlefield 1 is incredible. Truly a step up from Battlefield 4 and Hardline in terms of graphics and gameplay. Also, the WW1 Campaign Mode is very cool. Are the graphics really that much better than BF4? It didn't scream way better to me, just marginally. The gameplay is pretty great, still getting used to the different weapons and such but had a ton of fun playing. The first 4 hours of playing my buddy and I were struggling hard against tanks but finally got some anti-tank weapons that helped immensely. The beginning was pretty much getting burned whenever a tank came by. The BF franchise still struggles with navigational controls in the waiting/pre-post game screens. Not being able to exit at points with the only option of closing the app (on PS4) should have been corrected in this version. Customization should be available offline (though I haven't dug around too much for that so I could've missed it). Just a lot of common sense things to improve the overall experience would be nice, figured there would've been enough feedback from BF4 to put light on that but maybe not.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) The difference is Trump getting called on his faults is the majority of the MSM coverage for this election where Clinton's faults and wrongdoings get swept under the rug. A big piece of that is because of how hated Trump is. Like Tony just asked, if this was Rubio running vs Hillary it wouldn't be nearly as lopsided with msm bias. I bet Clinton would probably have more media on her side but Trump literally changed the game (and not in a good way for republicans).

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) I'll take the Blue Jays to win it all before I'd take Trump winning the general. He's an idiot with a bad business record who has hours upon hours of tape saying dumb stuff over the last thirty years. He's alienated multiple ethnic/religious groups. The debates have shown us that he can't even speak on policy in a way that makes him a qualified candidate. Somehow (probably because the Democrat's candidate is so horrible) this buffoon hasn't hanged himself yet. So the establishment and the media have to stack the cards against him anyways. So we have two horrible candidates. One is a reality star getting the shafted by the establishment and the mainstream media and the other is establishment as can be and gets covered for by the powers that be. Every legitimate leak (stolen emails, officials on tape) against Clinton with transgressions between her camp gets wiped away because "source is illegitimate" or "Russia did it." Every time a woman who no one has ever heard of says Trump looked at her funny we have round the clock news coverage calling him a sexist rapist fascist. Let's also not generalize this election to just establishment vs non-establishment. Trump isn't getting support from MSM or the GOP like other candidates would because of what he has said, done, and the "policies" he's proposed. Sure, there is a scoop of establishment bias here, it'd be stupid to not count that, but he's not getting support for many many reasons, which are predominantly self inflicted.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) It makes a world of difference whether or not Hillary Clinton approved, or knew of, the alleged actions. To be fair I'd be judging the republicans a lot if something like this came out against them, I'd hold all GOP leadership and the candidate responsible, just like Hillary and the DNC leadership should be held accountable for having people like Foval in influential roles. No party will ever be perfect but these parties need to be held accountable.
