  1. It's going to get boring around here with that kind of regulation but fine. From now on if I find something in a reply to my post offensive then I will just point it out for a mod to "selectively" edit. :rolly On the subject of SOTALK regulation are these phrases acceptable? "you are mistaken" "contrary to your opinion/belief" "nonsense" "baka" Can we use negative context in foreign languages? Just asking.
  2. I know we have not performed well of late against contenders at home but I'd still prefer this team playing a game 7 before a Chicago crowd.
  3. I'll try & make the logic simple on this. If you present a fact & someone calls it hogwash without prioviding a factual basis to refute it is that not a demonstration of ignorance?
  4. No. It's just someone immature who believes wiping out a fact is better than debating one. :rolly
  5. Unless someone knows everything we are all ignorant of somethings. I equally noted the hypocrisy in the edit. Mine is completely wiped out (censorship) & the other was selectively modified. :rolly
  6. http://www.uchospitals.edu/ - findings on frequency of mutation in humans. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/...50111170714.htm Humans Are A 'Privileged' Evolutionary Lineage Lahn: "The making of the large human brain is not just the neurological equivalent of making a large antler. Rather, it required a level of selection that's unprecedented. Our study offers the first genetic evidence that humans occupy a unique position in the tree of life." www.sciencedaily.com/search/?keyword=Bruce+Lahn&topic=all&dates=1995&dates=2005&sort=relevance
  7. And the reason why this post was not wiped out is? :rolly
  8. It's pointless to continue. Not only were both my posts wiped out but so was the quoted reference. Didn't know SOXTALK had thought police.
  9. Some would say militant religions are made up of people who ignore facts in hopes that they will go away so that they can adhere to their own paradigms. Darwinists seem to fit the bill. I do not see where my post demonstrates any science-bashing. I acknowledge that natural selection played a primary role in man's evolution. I'm reading a book now that actually compares the development stages of embryos & fetuses to other organisms. The similarities are so astounding that you could make the argument that man's evolutionary past can be visibly seen during reproduction. But in comparison that past represents 9 months of a 72 yr life expectancy. There is little scientific evidence to support natural selection as the predominant influence beyond birth. The research suggesting a multiplicity function to genes in humans is equally astounding. That's why the article was termed software of life. If you think of in terms of object oriented programming, the common genes represent the data structures & the software is represented by the methods. It appears the same data structure in humans has many times more methods. What I will admit & it's not really been discussed yet in the thread is that ID is too complex to teach at an elementary level. You need at least a college level understanding of calculus, molecular biology & chemistry to make sense of these findings. So I don't forsee an ID class for the average kid. ID can not even be introduced into a class on evolution until the class as covered RNA, DNA, the human genome, the neural net including the brain. Such stuff is usually not covered in K-9. The only impact in K-9 would be a subjective one. Natural selection would no longer be assumed as the primary influence for mankinds super-cognitive abilities. Super in comparison to everything else.

  12. We have to keep in mind that there is extreme prejudice in Iraq. The Shia & Shiites don't view killing Kurds the same way as killing non-Kurds.
  13. The thing about Roberts is that he's like an ace of spades. His credentials as measured by the institutions that the legal world respects are higher than any present member of the USSC. So it's hard to argue against nominating him as Chief Justice. As for abortion, it's a near certainty that the 2 congressional acts: Partial Birth Aborton Ban & Violence Against Mothers will appear before the court. Roberts is sure to guide the court in upholding them as constitutional. Both acts contain substantial regulation on abortion procedures & funding. They would become the law of the land. All prior decisions would have little meaning. This creates an interesting scenario for pro-lifers. They have worked hard to lobby for these two acts just to curb the tide of abortion. Now they would have to lobby against them to curb it even further. The end of the world is not upon us. The next technological leap to save the US will be coming in the form of nano-machines & robotics. That will shift manufacturing back to the states. Why? Because transportation & energy costs around the globe are going to experience hyper-inflation in the near future. That will lead companies to look further at automation in the markets they serve. It should be a boon to construction in the USA, a new high-tech infrastructure, & more jobs in a supervisory role. Instead of supervising people they'll be supervising machines. When manufacturing shifts back to the states China will be left to survive on the strength of it's own local markets. Communism has yet to prove it can sustain a thriving marketplace.
  14. For those who have been following CWS boards prior to the inception of SOXTALK it's pretty obvious which Orwellian site this person is referring to. SOXTALK is the polar opposite. Pessimists far outnumber the optimists here. Negative posts attract applause. Positive posts attract combat.
  15. Didn't factor in scenario where WC finishes better than tops in ALC. Leading the ALC: Chicago 86 51 25 left Actual Countdown to AL crown & ALC crown: 21 EN: #2 in AL 81 56 25gr 16 EN: Wild Card 77 60 25gr 16 EN: Cleveland 77 61 24gr 11 EN: Minnesota 72 66 24gr 04 EN: Detroit 63 73 26gr 00 EN: Kansas City ELIMINATED Explanation: If the AL WC finishes better than tops in ALC then a playoff game would decide the ALC division in the event of a tie-breaker. That adds a +1 to all ALC contenders EN. BOS owns the H2H tie-breaker against CWS for rights to best in AL. That adds a +1. EN's will drop quickly with H2H action amongst contenders: BOS vs NYY: 6 gms. H2H 7-6 NYY MIN vs DET: 6 gms. H2H 7-6 DET CLE vs DET: 2 gms H2H 10-6 CLE CLE vs MIN: 3 gms H2H 9-7 MIN Applying L10 records to gr: 17 EN: Boston 103 59 06 EN: New York 92 70 06 EN: Cleveland 92 70 00 EN: Minnesota 84 78 00 EN: Detroit 69 93 00 EN: Kansas City 50 112 The WSox are presently playing at a pace to finish 103-59. BOS owns H2H 4-3. We're looking at a dog fight to the very end.
  16. Another strong tenet of Darwinism coming under fire is the belief that mutation through natural selection strongly suggests there is intelligent life on other planets. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2000/...00126080531.htm That popular belief is weakening as computer driven probability matrices strongly suggest that is not likely. Brownlee: "For 90 percent of the age of this planet, life was slime at the bottom of the ocean. The underlying theme of the book is that the Earth is a very charmed planet. We know of no other body that is even remotely like Earth." This is what science is about. Applying observation & calculation to explain things in the Universe. Plausible explanations that weaken traditional theories should be taught in school.
  17. This is an example of an intelligent design finding that has NOTHING to do with the Bible: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/...50904123314.htm As genetic science moves forward we are breaking away from the old paradigm that mutation is the primary influence on how we evolve. The genetic differential between man & the earth worm is small yet the complexity of the two organisms is vast. Mutation through natural selection can't explain that. It's interesting that the article makes use of the term "Software to Life". Software implies intelligent design.
  18. What is science? According to some of you that which is ONLY supported by majority opinion in a scientific community. :rolly Science is the exploration of our universe & everything in it. We explore it through observation, & calculation. From that we derive laws & theories that govern that exploration. What any one person thinks about any one particular aspect of science is irrelevant. In order to claim something is unscientific you must disprove it's basis rooted in observation &/or calculation. If you can not then your personal opinion represents nothing more than bias. ID is rooted in a sound basis of both observation & calculation. That is why you rarely hear or read any Darwinists who make arguments challenging the basis. They prefer to lump it with creationism & disregard it as religious. That's nothing more than bias & it has no place in the world of science. If you choose not to believe the recent findings strongly suggesting that man is a super-species in comparison to the rest of nature then make an argument against both the observation & calculation that supports that claim. If you can not then you would be best to stay out of it.
  19. Leading the ALC: Chicago 84 51 27 left Countdown to elimination in the ALC: 16 EN: Cleveland 75 61 14 EN: Minnesota 71 64 06 EN: Detroit 63 71 Kansas City ELIMINATED EN: Elimination Number = Combination of team's losses & Chicago wins How to calculate: Chicago gms left - diff in losses - 1 for any team that can't win the season series. H2H vs CLE 10-3, vs MIN 6-5, vs DET 11-3. Generally speaking H2H is the tie-breaker for teams with identical records in the division. The only exception is if the wild card team finishes with a better record than the best ALC teams. The EN for that scenario is 19. If that should happen then there would be a playoff amongst division contenders. Chicago needs 4 wins against MIN to insure they are the host in any scenario.
  20. First let's clear up misconceptions of what Intelligent Design (ID) is. It is not biblical-creationism. It is rooted in scientific facts. It challenges Darwinism. Neither Darwinists or IDists dispute the fact that man evolved from non-intelligent life. The dispute lies in how man evolved. Darwinists believe that mutation arising from natural selection is the primary influence for that evolution. IDists believe that the complexity of mankind's being is a magnitude so much greater than everything else that natural selection is at best a secondary influence for that evolution. The primary influence(s) remain unknown. IDists arrive at that conclusion based on scientific facts. The differential in the genome of a chimp & a human pales in significance to the differential in their brains. The complexity of the human brain is so much greater than that of a chimp's that natural selection is at best a secondary influence in it's evolution. Likewise the frequency of mutation that occured within man's evolution is many million times greater than that of a chimps. The science of genetics is based on calculations of probability matrices & complexity of design. Such calculations are proving that it is improbable to suggest that mutation arising from natural selection is the primary influence in man's evolution. So that is essentially what this debate is about. Should the misguided, improbable, & unsubstantiated claim that mutation arising from natural selection is the primary influence in man's evolution continue to be taught in our public schools or should it be downgraded to a secondary influence & the primary influence remain unknown? Treating natural selection as a secondary influence opens the door to enlightening the students to what we know about other influences & how they affected our evolution. Based on recent polls 64% of Americans believe ID should be taught in the classrooms.
  21. An honorable & respected man who dedicated his life to serving his country will be sorely missed. Bush's 4-Horsemen of the Apocalypse 1) price at the pump reaching $3.50 2) O'Connor stepping down 3) Rehnquist dying 4) Gulf waters flooding the Gulf coast The average voter would not want his job right now. The pressure has to be enormous. There will be many millions of Americans linking the 4 together as a definitive sign from God that America must repent. This will only further super-charge the culture wars raging in America today. The impending impact on inflation could lead us inevitably into a depression. Something that has come to be considered unthinkable in America. For many their affluent/suburban bubble of a lifestyle they've built on credit, home-swapping, & job-jumping could finally burst. There is little to be optimistic about. If our thoughts really can influence our water (whatthebleep.com) then we might just be drowned by the tsunami size waves of dark water ready to flood all of America.
  22. Rather than criticize those who believe the Sun revolves around the Earth you should ask the question why do they believe this? The most reasonable answer is that they were never taught astronomy. If we assume that we all are creatures evolved from chimps & that science is rooted in that which we can ONLY observe by our 5 senses then what evidence is there that would convince them the Earth revolves around the Sun? This is a truth we either accept as something taught in a school or that we have reasoned ourselves looking at the mathematical data afforded to us from astronomical events. It is something we believe not because our senses or instincts tell us it is true but rather because our calculations reason it must be so. When Darwinists find evidence that chimps are capable of understanding mathematics then I will consider them as useful to society. Until then they are just a bunch of religious nuts void of spirituality. No one has to be a Darwinist to accept the generalizations put forth by the theories of evolution & natural selection. A Darwinist takes those theories to the extreme, treats them as laws, & uses them as bearings for societal behavior. Pretty radical stuff.
  23. Perspective is fundamental to understanding. What signifigance is there to the fact that there is a 4% differential between our genome & that of a chimp's? None. The fact taken by itself is irrelevant. You would be a fool to suggest that this 4% is the same as say a 4% differential in the price of oil. The signifigance then lies in RELATION to differentials of other species. There is less than a 10% differential between humans & fruit flys. Or put another way less than a 6% differential between fruit flys & chimps. When you list the characteristics & attributes between a fruit fly & a chimp it's a VAST difference. Probably on par with the VAST difference in characteristics & attributes between a chimp & a human. Is this kind of understanding taught in public schools? Doubtful. They are mostly Darwinists afterall. Any understanding that threatens their narrow vision is attacked with zeal reminiscent of militant Islamic fundamentalists. Is Darwinism a religion? It sure acts like one :rolly
  24. It's so easy to analyze the situation after it happens. So much data to analyze so little time to analyze it. But it's a LOT harder to analyze a situation in real-time. It's amazing how so many blame Bush when there are 10's of 1000's of people responsible for the infrastructure & managing emergencies in the gulf coast. Based on the news media once again we see the Dems condemning Bush with the perception that it's the Fed's job to manage a crisis. Excuse me? Are to we accept that elected officials & appointed managers in that region behave no better than monkeys? Darwinists might lead you to believe that but the rest of us who believe that mankind should behave at a level comparable to it's intellect don't. The blame for the crisis left in Katrina lies squarely on the shoulders of local government officials. They are the ones who are responsible for managing not just the infrastructure but also the zoning laws, permits, licensing, & other forms of regulation to prepare against such emergencies. The risk of a Katrina like event has always been apparent to the region. Let's not act like this is somehow an act of God or something driven by a paranormal curse. Beyond Katrina's path of destruction itself there is the melt down of civility. Who's to blame for that? Is it reasonable to assume that a public education system void of a definitive system of morality is a contributing factor? I think so. It's like trying to teach the people that 1+1=2 most of the time but can = other things depending on your perspective. Maybe in some weird twisted sense it's politically correct but you can't build upon it. Civilization requires a fair amount of cohesiveness to progress. So when I read about people on the ground firing on helipcopters trying to give aid & support to people on the rooftops I do stop & ask the question why? Why are they doing this? What in their social development has led them to act that way? Would they have done it 40 yrs ago? When I seek answers to these questions I am led back to the same common thread: education void of definitive morality. So if you are seeking someone to blame in this mess look squarely at the people responsible for education the masses in that region (New Orleans to Biloxi).
  25. Doh! Numbers. Yes very funny. Good one.
