I've always said it's been the $$$ keeping this deal from happening. Because 57% of the money is deferred asking the Reds to pick up $15M/3yrs amounts to about 40% of the contract's remaining value. That's the simple version that doesn't take into consideration that the biggest deferred payments are in the latest years ($16.5M owed in 2024). Which means you really have to break the deferred out. The White Sox asked the Reds to pick up $15M over the next 3 yrs. Griffey is owed $18M + $4M 09 buyout & about $1M left for 05 now. The rest of the $19.5M is deferred until 2023-2024. Whether you invest it in the markets or the franchise the money earned on that principal will greatly depreciate it's debt value. The Reds owner was right in rejecting the trade. KGJ's value as it relates to the franchise value of the Reds exceeds that which the White Sox were willing to pay. I did not know the WSox are such sticklers on team dress. When did we start thinking we were the NYY$?

What you are advocating is that as people grow older they should silence themselves for fear of mis-speaking. That is not a principle this nation was founded upon. It's not a sociallly accepted norm either. America is probably the most forgiving nation on the planet. That's part of our Christian heritage. As the country grows more literate over time it should be able to discern when someone mis-speaks. We should not be engaging in the habit of dismissing all other knowledge about a person to pounce on one statement. Any one petty enough to continue engaging in such practices should leave. The nation would be better as a whole if they did. In a better world the reporter would have immediately questioned his statement as he made it. The reporter should have said "Are you advocating that we should assasinate him?" That would have given the old man a time to reflect on his statement & correct/clarify it right there on the spot.

What he should have said is Chavez should be removed from office. Nothing more than that. But guess what? He's old. People should be given a greater latitude to mis-speak as they grow older. Those of us who still are blessed to have our parents around should appreciate that the most. Christians are called upon to forgive each other's mistakes. It's essential for salvation. They will easily forgive Robertson for this one. They will not liken him to Bin Laden. Only radical extremists would do that. As to whether Chavez should be removed I leave that in the hands of those making the decisions at homeland security, NSD, & DOD. They have the best intelligence available to make those decisions & I'm not talking about search engines on the internet :rolly:

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/mil...milb&pid=435539 Dear Kenny, Please bring up Owens. He can only help. We don't need Adkins. We need Owens. I can't say this enough. We need something to ignite us. No one will help you. You must look within. -
I can't believe some of you people. Contreras pitches great on Sunday & now Freddy pitches great on Tuesday & you're jumping ship? After two fine performances like that how can you give up hope? Were we expected to beat Santana in the dome today? No. But we made him work his butt off for the victory. If we keep getting great starts like this the wins will come.

No Maggs, no Frank & yet they had a winning record in Sept in 2004. The past 5 yrs: all winning records in Sept. None of those teams could pitch like this one. Defintely IN.

Depending on what venue you are using to purchase the tickets it usually includes S&H fees which they assign regardless of whether you choose next day or regular UPS ground. The S&H fee is associated with each ticket you purchase. I think the total cost was about $700 & I was refunded all but $60. Something along those lines. These tickets were purchased after the ALDS sold out. The best thing to do is ask the venue at the time you purchase your tickets. Pay close attention to any fees they assess outside of the face value of the tickets themselves.

According to the rules: Players who have played for less than 3 yrs typically do not have to clear ML waivers. Since they usually have option years left they typically don't have to clear OR waivers either. Of course there is the PTBNL rule that pretty much allows any two team to skirt the need for ML waivers. In the case of the Reds & the White Sox they could have completed a Griffey Jr trade making use of future considerations in the form of PTBNLs. They have 6 months to complete that trade. Which means they can assign the PTBNLs after the ML waiver period has expired. Since these two teams are in different leagues the White Sox can use any players they want. Which brings up an interesting question. Can two teams void a trade because they can't agree on future considerations prior to the 6th month deadline? If that's possible then theoretically speaking the Reds could loan us Griffey Jr & get him back later. Since cash can be used in lieu of PTBNLs I'd imagine the Commissioner's office would step in & demand compensation for the Reds.

Trying to recall what I paid in 2000. I didn't have the ALDS tickets. I had the ALCS. With an early exit the face value of the tickets were refunded but not the processing fees. That's the risk you take.

I think adding Ray is wishful thinking. He's not been the subject of any trade talk for a long while now. Plus using him at DH in place of Everett after all Carl's contributed this year is a chemistry cracker. It's that time of the season where you can still earn a win but can't remove a loss. In the loss column we are 12 up on the Twins & 10 up on the Injuns. That's still a sizeable lead. If the White Sox go 20-20, will the Twins go 32-8, will Cle go 30-10? That's what it would take to catch us. The pitching & defense on this team is simply too good for that to happen. I expect Sept callups to give us the pop in the offense we need to finish strong. Sep: 04 17-12, 03 13 12, 02 16-11, 01 14-9, 00 16-12 We've not had a losing record in Sep in the past 5 yrs. I don't see that changing this year.

ROFL with the line about Hawk hugging Kotex Boy He gave me hope with the RJ line. From corpse ball to HR derby to end of losing streak. All at home. Meanwhile Owens is down in AA with 34 SB, 46BB, & a .341A effort playing LF. He can't be any worse than the replacement players we have now. Send down Adkins, bring up Owens & maybe we can get back to taking the lead in the first 3 innings.

How many other family entertainment venues do you know of where they encourage the fans to wave oversized black lacy bras? There's a reason why they don't exist.

Logically speaking there's a big difference. Not all smokers die prior to the age of normal life expectancy. Many smokers live beyond that age. Thus no one can say they know for certain that an activity like smoking will have an adverse effect on their life beyond the norm. Provided you are skilled in the art of killing yourself it is certain you will die from a suicidal act. Philosophically speaking there is a big difference as well. Does a smoker smoke because they seek death? More likely than not the answer is no. Do suicides try to kill themselves because they seek death? More likely than not the answer is yes.

How would that affect the rotation though?

The last thing the Chicago White Sox need is for women's groups to start portraying White Sox fans as male chauvenist pigs.

Rotoworld predicts sox to sign Jarrod Washburn

I agree he has not been used in that capacity with the White Sox. I recall reading something along those lines in Japan. What I meant to say is that with the Sox his numbers are pretty much even VS. LEFT: .275 / .788 VS. RIGHT: .282 / .792. So it's like having a SHB in that spot. What Damon lacks in arm strength he makes up for in speed. You're argument suggests his arm in RF will have more bearing on wins/losses for the White Sox than his bat & speed. I don't buy that argument. On this team Dye would get plenty of playing time even as a part-time 4th OFer & DH. It would come down to $, his trade value, & how we could use him as to whether he remains with the team. His 2005 yr has not been good enough to suggest he's not tradeable. As for FA 1B well that would include RFA as well. I'd prefer to keep Kong as I think he's really grown defensively but I don't know if the team can afford 50/4 to keep him. I don't worry so much about FA DH because Everett can be retained for $7M if nothing better pops up. -
See that? Timo is good for something other than bootlicking Ozzie.
-
He was optioned to Charlotte in Mar so that means he had at least 1 option year left. Since his MLB debut was in 08/14/2003 I don't think they would need to secure ML waivers on him either.
-
Adkins might have to clear waivers if you sent him down before Aug 31st. BMac already spent an option this year so there's no cost on him to come up early.

The Padres have made Giles their #1 goal .. he's not going any where. The Marlins aren't letting go of Delgado no way no how. Especially if they win another championship. But Damon is very intriguing for the White Sox. I don't believe we can't outbid the Cub for his services. If we can get past BOS in the playoffs or if BOS doesn't make it then Damon might consider the White Sox. At 33 he would greatly help our ball club. We don't have to get rid of Dye. He can become the 4th OF option that Everett currently fills. We get rid of Everett which we won't need with Damon on board. Better balance in the lineup: LHB - Pods LF SHB - Iguchi 2B LHB - Damon RF RHB - Konerko/FA 1B RHB/LHB - Thomas/FA DH RHB - Rowand CF LHB - AJP C RHB - Crede 3B RHB - Uribe SS -
It was reported today that the Twins & Soriano could not work out a contract in the 48 hr deadline. The Rangers announced he wouldn't be traded.

Basically we don't have any firesales this year. That's led to a dismal trade market. No teams are overtly inclined to sell. I've updated all lists but I don't even expect the players asking to be traded being dealt.

If you assume they have some inside rumor information to base this on then it makes sense if the White Sox have given up on the El Duque experiment. They will defintely be looking to go with 5 established starters in 2006 as it has meant a major difference in 2005. -
Whether it's $$$ or other factors there's the possibility Aug 31st will pass & this is it. What we have now is what we go to battle with in Oct. I'm still on the fence. I'd like to see Owens up now to see if he can help us in Oct. I don't think we owe any loyalty to Timo. He's not good enough to warrant loyalty. We need players who can help us scratch out runs. Our playoff aspirations are dependant on low scoring stingy games. That's the makeup of this team. If we don't get the kind of pitching & defense that made us the best team in the AL then an extra bat won't make a difference.

I think a better survey would be along the lines of this: 1) Ask the people which cable new network the watch the most 2) Ask the people whether they feel it affects the way they vote 3) Ask the people how often they watch news programs on PBS, MSNBC & CNN. The last question is the biggest because if the majority of people are filtering their news then these same people would be less loyal to a single network.
