I hope Ozzie understands we are now in that part of the season that is longer than anything Iguchi faced in Japan (including playoffs). I hope he will rest Iguchi more often this month. It's not so much the physical exhaustion of playing such a long schedule as it is the mental side. No doubt Iguchi has been doing his homework studying up on pitchers & that's taken a toll on him as well. I'm not making excuses for his recent errors but when it comes to the debate of whether Japanese vets should be considered Rookies they definitely are when it comes to the length of the season. I've not seen an effective sub for Iguchi than Harris so I hope he's called up.

We've been over this. The general rule allows for ANY player to used as a PTBNL. The only restriction is that the player can not have played in the same league as the destination team. That's not a problem with the White Sox & Reds because they are in different leagues. The problem with using PTBNL to avoid ML waivers is that the Reds are still dealing KGJ on promises. The White Sox are under no obligation to fullfill those promises & the two parties might not be able to come to agreement on future considerations. In that scenario the commish would weigh in & KGJ might be the PTBNL before the 6 month's expire. That's why the best assurance for a PTBNL is cash. The White Sox agree to a cash agreement if the two teams can't agree on the players. It appears the White Sox are not willing to do that.

Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox
JUGGERNAUT replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The last article in the Southtown on this believed that the Reds were willing to pick up 1/3rd of the contract. It essentially stated the White Sox are fools for not doing what needs to be done. If the NYY$ had better pitching this year they would have jumped at the chance to claim him off waivers. If you believe the article then it's never been about talent & always about the money. The White Sox are not willing to pick up the $23M owed by 2009. They would leave the Reds on the hook for only the deferred $. All of the articles I've read even before the deadline suggest the Reds would be fine with that. The rumor in July had the Reds picking up $15M of what's owed by 2009. Maybe the White Sox have lowered their demands down to $10M but that was never enough for the Reds. They are looking for flexibility in payroll while they have Kearns, Pena, & Dunn. Getting someone to pick up everything but the deferred $ is how to do that. -
Dude, if you want to make a religious stereo-type joke go for the jugglar: James Cavaziel.

This issue was covered in the Sun Trib. It talked about how the coalition is falling apart & how a year from now America will be standing alone. But what's the alternative? Leave now & let Iraq digress into civil war? That's what will happen if we leave. Prejudice is commonplace in Iraq. If we pull out it will run wild. I read about the petition & do any of those people consider the consequences of a pullout right now? Likewise it's ridiculous to suggest we should pullout after having spent $250B in this effort & not come away with a strategic base. We have never had a problem with Kurdish controlled N Iraq. So at the very least we should establish a major military base as close to the Caspian Sea as we can to have at least gained a strategic advantage in all of this.

Jake Loyd for my younger years when sports & comics were my life. Tom Cruise from All The Right Moves for my teen years. Somewhere between that & Joel of Risky Business was my life. Ben Affleck for my adult years. Tall, dark, & handsome

. As are the people who posted in this thread not to comment on the quote but to basically attack his ministry & any one who stands up for Christianity. A poster advocating that Robertson should be shot because of his remark is clearly not one standing up for Christianity. Paraphrasing the Robertson quote: If he (Chavez) thinks we are going to assasinate him then maybe we should go ahead & do it. It was a very stupid thing for Robertson to say. It was very stupid for the 700 Club producers to not call him out on it in real-time & prep him before that days broadcast to help prevent such stupidity from going out over the air. He should have said something like, "maybe he should step down or maybe we should try & remove him from office." But never should the head of a Christian ministry advocate assasinating someone. That being said he is guilty of a stupid moment. We all are at times. The main has done far MORE GOOD in this world then he has said stupid things. Cut him some slack. I think it was greivous enough to where the 700 Club producers should ask him to apologize on the air (if he hasn't done so already) & suspend him for a while.

Griffey Jr: "I'm not going to discuss it without my lawyer present. The ballclub has not come to me with a formal offer." KGJ: .451A, 7HR, 11RBI's last 12 gms Do you really think the Cincy media doesn't want this to happen? They keep pointing out the 7 gm losing streak but all but ignore the fact we are 5-5 in our last 10 including a series win @MIN, & a sweep in progress in SEA. We are NOT a team desperate for KGJ yet they keep portraying us that way. :rolly Wednesday just before midnight is the deadline.

Same here My aunt finds more stuff as they keep re-doing the family tree. But that will never change the fact we are predominantly Irish.

We have one of the BEST 1-5 rotations in MLB. We have one of the BEST bullpens in MLB. We are one of the BEST defensive teams in MLB. Now when you are that stingy how you do C&L is going to mean the most. Close & Late stats: HR's: #1 in MLs, Rs: #9 in MLs, RBIs: #5 in MLs RON stats: HR's: #7 in ML's, SLG: #10 in ML's That's been the winning formula all year long.

KCR have already been eliminated.

This goes for all sports media (not just Levine). It's so obvious they want KGJ traded to the WSox. Imagine the buzz that would create if it were to happen. Not just to finish the regular season but much more so in the post season. The ratings & coverage of the WSox nation-wide with KGJ on the team would at least double. I think that's part of why they won't let it die.

WSox 79-47 (36 to play) Post-AS: 22-18 Indns 72-58 (32 to play) Post-AS: 25-17 (.595) Twins 68-61 (33 to play) Post-AS: 20-23 WSox since Thomas' last RBI or R: 17-18 (.486) Elimination countdown: KCR 42-85 : dead. Clinched. DET 62-65 : death MN is 18 (3-8 rec vs WSox) MIN 68-61 : death MN is 22 (5-6 rec vs WSox) CLE 72-58 : death MN is 25 (3-10 rec vs WSox) Projections: Eliminate DET on or before Sept 11th. Eliminate MIN on or before Sept 15th. Eliminate CLE on or before Sept 19th. We have shaved about 43 from the MN over the last 40 gms.

From the hitters perspective it's a LOT faster when combined with an off-speed pitch. I read somewhere that when a pitcher throws an 87 mph pitch followed by a 95 mph it appears to the hitter like a 15 mph jump. So when Jenks throws a 92 mph followed by a 102 mph skill & talent won't make contact. You have to be lucky to hit that.

This is too much fun to stop now WSox 79-47 (36 to play) Post-AS: 22-18 Indns 72-58 (32 to play) Post-AS: 25-17 (.595) Twins 68-61 (33 to play) Post-AS: 20-23 WSox since Thomas' last RBI or R: 17-18 (.486) Projected finish: WSox 96-66 Indns 91-71 Twins 85-77 Elimination countdown: KCR 42-85 : dead DET 62-65 : death MN is 18 (3-8 rec vs WSox) MIN 68-61 : death MN is 22 (5-6 rec vs WSox) CLE 72-58 : death MN is 25 (3-10 rec vs WSox) ESPN has it scheduled: Mon. 5 at Boston 12:05 PM CSN http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view...articleid=99742 http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,1316491.story It was rumored that both teams voted to waive playing the game on their one shared off-day. They opted to wait until after the regular season to see if the game needed to be played. But Selig excercised his authority & insisted the game be played on the off-day to avoid the risk of having to push back the start of the ALDS.

I'd rather have Owens as a backup leadoff hitter than Timo. Though Timo did have a nice bunt the other day.
-
Update: Wes Helms, Kaz Matsui cleared. Note: The Pads fans who run this site didn't bite on the KGJ news.
-
I wonder how much more they offered to take on. They had asked the Reds to pick up $15 of the $23M owed to KGJ by 2009. I've said enough about the deferred $ already. If they upped their anty to where they were asking the Reds to just pick up the deferred $ then Linder's an idiot. The chances of KGJ staying healthy & playing CF for the Reds over those 3 yrs is slim at best. If it's something less than that Linder should at least be thinking about it.

I realize we live in different parts of the country & the world but I have always found that if you take the g/f, wife, sig other to a live sporting event now & then they come around on your need to watch them on tv or listen to them on the radio. I've had g/f's who were never big fans of baseball take to the WSox because we went to games every month together. I've used the same strategy with NASCAR & it's paid off wonderfully. The whole family is into the sport now. Now if I can just get it her to take the plunge on the nastiest roller coasters in the nation it be heaven She still frowns at me for getting her to ride JP @ IoA. I told her it's a movie boat ride.
-
They do that, I'm there. That would be an experience unlike any other. I'd be psyched. I think most of the family would as well. Might be some resistance on the $25 ppc. Maybe I can convince them to throw a meal in there for that price.

WRT LBJ, that is not a similar circumstance nor can it be said it bolstered the public's opinion of him. WRT to Clinton, Bush met with plenty of victims from 9/11. You see what you want to see & ignore everything else. I'm checking to see if there were any KIA's during Clinton's two terms from overseas action. I'm sure there were. Did Clinton apologize to the people of Kosovo for bombing the s*** out of them? Did he apologize to them for wrecking their economy at the time? Did you ever once wonder how quickly the world jumped to the beat of a German drummer in that part of the world but turned a deaf ear on Iraq prior to 9/11? Was their sufficient reason to justify bombing the s*** out of them? More so than bombing Iraq?

SUPER SIZE ME? No thank you. Wendy's is better. But alas no mascots -
I read a quote from the SD GM that Giles was their #1 off-season priority.

Good point. Walker is a good choice as well.
