  1. LMAO! My Christmas part is a week from Friday. Happy happy joy joy. Another bonusless, raiseless year gone by.
  2. [non-sequitar] I am thrilled with how well Philip Rivers and the Charges have been doing. Now if the defense could improve a little, I would be even happier. [/non-sequitar]
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) Secretary of Energy -- QueenPrawn Joules rule!
  4. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) You choose your path, you choose what you make of your life. While an individual chooses their path, they don't choose the potholes that sometimes show up. My dad worked for the Steel Mills and loved that job. Because of issues out of his controlled, they closed. My dad isn't a citizen, but is a legal resident and started paying taxes the second day he was here (that was when he started his job). He doesn't have much of an education, but tons of experience building houses (besides the farm, that is what he and his dad did back in Ireland). In this country, without that piece of paper, you cannot do much. He did find a job (a janitor at an office building downtown) and has been there for 20 years. In the 2 years where he was out of work, with a wife and three kids, he busted ass to do what he could to provide. Insurance wasn't one of those things, but we lucked out and the things that did require medical attention waited until he was back to work (a gift from God is the way we see that). My point is, my dad made a great decision taking the job at the Mills, through no fault of his own, they closed and there were NO jobs to be had at that time. We managed to survive, but that is a perfect example of potholes in the paths we choose that we have no control over.
  5. I was just reading about how people were stranded on I-80 (I guess there was a 70 mile back-up near I-74 and because of all the jack-knifed trucks and cars in ditches, it was shut down). That would suck. At least red cross was bringing people food and gas. Knowing my luck, that would be the one time I would leave without a book or three.
  6. Maybe 3" of heavy snow for us and that was about it. I guess we got more of the band of sleet than snow.
  7. My grass still isn't completely covered. But apparently it is coming down in Niles (Brain just called with the weather report from Niles ). I am guessing there is plenty of ice out there there considering how it has been sleeting on and off all night.
  8. Still isn't much of any snow out there. This sucks. I have a vacation day today so I was hoping it would snow. Oh well, still some time left but now weather.com is saying only 4-8" rather than that 8-12" they were saying last night. I do not like the iciness though. Hope Brain is careful on his way home this morning.
  9. My oven died. Range still works, but the oven doesn't. Brain is going to call a repairman to see if it is worth fixing. If not, he will next call his buddy who is a manager at Best Buy to see if they have any slide-in gas stoves on sales or a deal going on delivery/installation.
  10. Happy belated bday (it was my dad's bday as well)!
  11. Now that Chuck Amato is gone I wonder if the rumor about the Steelers' Head Coach will prove to be accurate.
  12. Stinky III is dying. This sucks. Since Brian called me to tell me that he (Stinky) is doing worse. I know he must be as Brian is the eternal optomist. If he really is dying, I just hope it is quick and painless. He is going is a similar way that Fuzzy I went - just winding down. He doesn't seem to be any pain, just has absolutely no energy - he sleeps most of the day and just wakes up for a treat and water.
  13. When I was at UIC, we had to have our IDs at all times. They were not checked very often unless we were on campus late or entering the library after 6 - then we had to show it to get in. Having never gone into the dorms, I do not know how often they were checked there.
  14. We did that is why we got rid of them 2 years ago. Also got my SIL away from them and working on my MIL as well (she wants to get rid of them, but cannot find any that she likes out by her).
  15. Happy 30th bday! After trying 30 out for a few days, it isn't so bad !
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) The best driving song IMO is Radar Love by Golden Earring, it just works so well!! LMAO! This is so true.
  17. 94.7, Queen, Righteous Brothers and Scorpions. Occasionally I will throw in a Led Zep CD as well.
  18. I hear ya Soxy! I think I found the edition of a cookbook my mom has been looking to get again (she loaned it and never got it back). For Brian, I have one last thing and he keeps hinting at it anyway so I know he will love it. I think I picked out some good stuff for my brother, sister and nephew. Here's hoping!
  19. LMAO Tex! Thanks all. I still haven't figured out if I feel any different, so I guess that means I don't lol. I just baked a cheesecake and after I get home from "the" doctor (cuz you know that is exactly what I want to do to celebrate 30), I am making homemade tortellini and sauce.
  20. Am I supposed to feel different now that I am 30?
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) What do your companies do when you use up all your sick days and have to take off? Take it out of your check. It happened once to a co-worker a couple years ago. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Sadly, that's not far off from my actual raise earlier this year. My supervisor said I deserved more but the company has standard percentage. Meanwhile they are about to announce that they are spending 90 million dollars to aquire a company in Florida. Welcome to my world! It's been 2 years since I have received any kind of raise (or has anyone else I work with for that matter), we found out today our health insurance costs have gone up $15 a month and they are buying two lines from a competitor (this was 2 years in the making though). Yeah, I can't say I was all that motivated to work after meeting this morning (free lunch or no free lunch).

    PS3

Brian wants one, but will not pay that price. He said his PS2 will do until the prices come down or he can score a used one.
  23. Ours are called personal days (we get 5 of them a year). I am using one thing year (tomorrow) for a doctor appointment (I had to wait 5 months to get this appointment). HR told me to go ahead and use it for doctors appt as most employees do. Brian used a sick day this year - first time ever (not considering the days at the end of last year when his dad was dying).
  24. As far as I remember, they did. That happened right before they merged so I am a bit fuzzy on the details.
