Yeah, I don't see what the big deal would be with a 1 year, $3 mill deal. Don't even need to add an option on to it. He'd be great if it were a last resort type of thing.

QUOTE(Linnwood @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 02:51 AM) I'm sorry, maybe I just wasn't paying attention... can someone explain all the Cora hate for me? Just because Hawk says he's always right doesn't mean he is always right.

If Beinfest was smart, he wouldn't fire Girardi; he'd trade him to the Cubs.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) NO, NO, NO! There is no reason at all to trade Garland. The starter we need to move before anybody is Vazquez. I just love how he decides to show up after we're basically out of it. Get rid of his ass. That goes for Garcia too. Another one who didn't show up until we had knocked ourselves out of the hunt. What about Contreras? Why did he suck complete ass in June and August? Garcia has had 2 good starts in a row, but didnt do jacks*** in June, July, and August. Buehrle's been horrible the entire second half. Atleast Vazquez did his part in trying to help get the Sox on the right track...he's been pitching his ass off since August. It's not his fault the White Sox can't do anything offensively when he's on the mound. If there is one starter that should NOT be dealt, it is Vazquez. He didn't pitch well in June and July, guess what, neither did Contreras last year, and he's a savior around here. Had the other starting pitchers done their part this year down the stretch, we wouldn't be having this discussion. You trade Garcia or Contreras. Buehrle's done too much for the White Sox organization to give up on him after one year, Garland's been awesome since his horrendous start, and Vazquez has actually showed a pair down the stretch.

QUOTE(bulokis @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) I think Michael Young is definitely on the sox' radar especially how Ozzie show how much he like Young during the ASB. If we can get it done with Vazquez, I'll trade Javier right away. no

2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread
witesoxfan replied to greasywheels121's topic in 2006 Season in Review
I love KW, but he's sorta wrong. Contreras went on the DL this season. -
QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Garcia has been our best pitcher the second half... if anyone needs to go its Buehrle or Vasquez... in that order. Or trade Contreras while he still has value. Buehrle's has none, while Vazquez has actually probably pitched the best all year out of any of the members of the rotation(great in April and May, horrendous in June and July, and then great again in August and September).

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Surprise, surprise... I still can't believe you guys hate the Red Sox more than you hate this team. Disgusting, disgraceful. Except that I pretty much hate them equally

Do the Yankees even celebrate anymore? If so, do they smoke cigars wrapped with $100 bills?

Konerko's quote after the game yesterday
witesoxfan replied to ILoveThisGAme's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox won 8 straight at one point in April, and they won 9 straight in June, and nearly made it 10 but Iguchi's grand slam in the 9th was not quite enough. And that 9 game winning streak was the first 9 game winning streak since 1977(who some fondly recall as the South Side Hitmen) -
White Sox scored 11 runs in the Detroit series
witesoxfan replied to Chisoxrd5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That is the season in a nutshell. Something pretty much has to be done about that. There's nothing more that can be said I don't mind a team that hits home runs, but that is just ridiculous -
QUOTE(ILoveThisGame @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Sox will be back next year. Key moves in my mind... Pods gone, Uribe traded...Jimmy Rollins signs with the Sox. Fields gets an opportunity to start in left after an awesome spring training. For some reason the untouchable Brandon McCarthy I strongly believe will be traded away...The devil rays said they would have to have Brandon. How about a trade that would send Brian Anderson and Brandon McCarthy to the Rays for Crawford. 2007 Lineup Crawford Rollins Dye Thome Konerko Pierzynski Crede Iguchi Fields 2 out of 3 years??? 1. Rollins is not a FA 2. Anderson is not going anywhere, and he won't be on the bench 3. Crawford is not playing CF if he comes to the Sox 4. That's like a $120 million payroll. That is just plain and simply not going to happen. The payroll may increase a little bit; it's not increasing $20 million.

The Fate of the "Spark Plug" Pablo Ozuna..
witesoxfan replied to BurlyMan56's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) Someone's gotta lead off against lefties. Hence he'll probably keep his role for next season I would imagine, although his 2nd half of the season has been poor. Podsednik will not be back, so that shouldn't be a necessity. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Garcia, Contreras, Vaz, those are your 3 trading chips. I personally think that Jose would be a good trading chip because of his age. He can still dominate for a few years, but really will go downhill sooner than later. You get rid of him, you get rid of Uribe, and Pods, we now have some cash to spend. I am actually beginning to think the same thing. Garcia has the Ozzie connection, and you almost get the feel he is pitching himself into a rotation spot next year, not to mention that he's a pretty durable pitcher and is, at the very least, mediocre. Vazquez is KW's boy, and he's been after him for years. His 4 good months this year pretty much solidify his place in the rotation next year. Garland's obviously staying, and I don't think you can give up on Mark because of one bad year. Whereas with Contreras, he's a little older, he's shown inconsistency and a little injury proneness this year, but still has retained a lot of his value from last season. Teams will look at his 2 years left and will figure they have a great #2 pitcher for 2 years at a pretty good market price.

If he stays dangerous at the plate, pitchers will start to be more selective with Crede. It's then up to him if he wants to start taking those pitches and drawing walks, or not taking them and playing like s***. His average may end up dipping a little in doing so, but overall he'll be a better hitter. Also, I don't care too much that Crede's OBP is less than Podsednik's. To go back to rudimentary baseball, Joe's getting paid to drive in runs. Podsednik is getting paid to score runs. Therefore, Crede's got an exception, due to his high average and slugging. Podsednik's pisspoor OBP is not acceptable. Obviously you'd like to see Crede get on base more, but him drawing walks is what's separating him from being a #3 hitter and being a #6/7 hitter.

The question that pertains to this thread Below you, you'll see a drag down bar that says "HTML Off." Turn it to "HTML On", and either mode will work just fine

Peter Gammons to return to ESPN tomorrow
witesoxfan replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) He said that Jon Lester would be a 100 win pitcher someday. For Lester's sake, I hope Gammons is right -
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) I kind of think the Sox rushed Sweeney. Sending him to the Carolina League his first full year is tough for a high schooler. But he did put up decent numbers so I won't really complain. He put up good numbers at pretty much every level he went to. Another year in AAA and he should hopefully be looking really good for '08

QUOTE(mreye @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) Why is this in the Sports Pub? If NASCAR is a sport, playing video games must be a sport too

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) 1) The uncertainty of his contract situation going forward and his agent could present big problems for the Sox. Crede has publicly voiced his desire to stay with the Sox, but at what point will Boras finally get the upper hand and get him to go for the biggest deal possible? My logic tells me eventually he will demand a huge deal. A Crede quote from late August. I know it's from the Trib, but I know for a fact I couldn't find the exact article it came out of... He's not dumping Boras

QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 01:59 AM) Um how many runs did we score on homers? a team that has a percentage as high as we do WILL NOT go to, or win in the playoffs The White Sox hit 200 homers as a team last year and scored 741 runs. That looks better than a 25% of the runs off of home runs, and that is just pretending that all those 200 were solo shots. You are wrong.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 01:53 AM) Would I trade Joe. No, unless you were wowed by an offer. And that would have been to be a stud position prospect like a Brandon Wood and a young stud SP, and I doubt we would get an offer like that unless a team like the Angels were desperate if they couldn't get a big bat in the off-season like Tejada or Ramirez. If you are the Angels, do you want Tejada or Crede on your team? One's entering the prime of his career, the other has been surrounded by all kinds of controversy in the past. One's a gold glove contender at 3B, and the other hasn't played a game at 3B in his career. One is going to make probably $5 mill next year, while the other is going to make $12 mill next year, $13 mill in 08, and $13 mill in 09. One's had 1 good all around season in the majors, while the other has had 7 good years in a row. Both look to be pretty safe bets. If I were Stoneman, and I couldn't sign Aramis, I know who I'd be after.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 02:19 AM) Walker can stay; hitters don't listen to hitting coaches Why would a team waste money on them then? For show? Crede's not a good hitter because of hard work and maturity. He's a good hitter because he spent a s***load of time with Walker working on his mechanics in the 04-05 offseason. Frank Thomas, one of the best hitters of the past 25 years, constantly consulted with Walt Hrniak. It sure as hell wasn't because he was a hell of a psychologist.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) another good game by freddy. you still want to get rid of this guy? if there is one guy to consider getting rid of it would have to be buerhle based on this season. he has been aweful. but i wouldnt even do that based on his awesome reputation to turn it around. i say keep the rotation as is and trade BMac in a package for a leadoff hitter. So instead of trading Garcia, who has b****ed about the offense in a game in which he gave up 5 runs and has lost his stuff, you want to trade Buehrle, who has been Mr. White Sox for about the past 5 years and has been with this team through the thick and thin of the 21st century? Loyalty is a two way street. Show Buehrle some love before cutting the strings. Garcia does not deserve the same respect Buehrle does. Garcia putting together good outing after good outing only increases his trade value. That is good
