  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) Aside for just biased Sox hate, I have a hard time not liking the Twins, and the organization. They just go about things the right way, and always seem to have a plan A,B, and C. Which is why whenever the Sox are eliminated, I am the Twins #1 fairweather fan. I am in complete and total agreement with you. People talk about how Ozzie is a good manager because of his off the field managing skills. You think Joe Mauer wouldn't run through a wall if Gardy asked him too? And beyond that, Gardenhire is one of the best in-game managers in the league too...from what I have seen of him anyways. He always puts guys in good positions to succeed. In doing so, he slowly builds his player's confidence. Willie Eyre, to start the year, was a AAAA reliever who had no chance of pitching for anyone else. As of Saturday night, he shut the Sox down for 2 innings in the Twins most important game of the year. HOW THE HELL DOES THAT WORK? Gardy is awesome, and so are the Twins. I just hate saying that with the Sox 0.5 GB.
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) Jeter has this thing locked up. which really sucks when there are like 5 people I can think of off the top of my head who are more deserving Dye Thome Ortiz Morneau Thomas And if Jim Leyland pinch hit 1 time this year, he would be a better candiate that Jeter too

sooooo from what I can tell, college is gonna be pretty killer
  4. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) I just fail to see the humor, especially at a time when the White Sox are just as worse off as the Red Sox are. I fail to see the connection bro. AL East Yanks - Red Sox 6.5 GB AL Central Tigers - Twins 5.0 White Sox 5.5 AL Wild Card Twins - White Sox .5 Red Sox 5.5 They're both in the crapper right now, but the Red Sox look pretty much toast without some small miracle. The White Sox did just avoid a sweep from the Twins, so they have a little something going for them, while the Red Sox were just swept by one of the worst teams in the AL(given, on the road, but they were swept nonetheless)

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Don't expect to hear from wite he's probably face down in a puddle of puke somewhere in SoDak I thunked I was gonna puke a little bit on Friday, but it was just a bad swallow of some Natty. Drove from Bismarck to Vermillion, and met with SD legislators along the way(actually, my dad did, but I tagged along for the hell of it). All in all, a friggin 11 HOUR GDAMN DRIVE. Got there, got moved in, gave my dad a good-bye hug(that was actually a hell of a lot harder than I thought it would be ), got settled in, and then went to go drink at 9:30. s***ty part was that the keg was dry by 11 GODDAMN OCLOCK. Drinking is pretty much all there is to do in this town, so they drink what they can and do it as fast as they can. Woke up, did some floor meetings s***, did some frosh meetings s***, did some welcoming activities s***, found out why college kids are so poor(2.50 for a slice of pizza? 5.40 for an 8 inch sammich? W.T.F.). Met some kids on my floor, met some kids in other dorms, caught up with some friends in other dorms, and saw Ty Barnett live(finished 2nd in the Last Comic Standing). Funniest.guy.evar. Classes start at 9:30 for me tomorrow. Yay
  6. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Where's the green, Wite? I definately fooked that up. I should have clarified it by saying the offense has been playing really well. They just can't score that 1 run they need. It WAS good to see Buehrle finally tell the Twins to stfu and go back to Minnesota though. I, being the eternal optimist that I am, still see a glimmer of hope. Garcia's pretty much mediocre, but he's consistent as hell and he's durable. If we score 6 and he's pitching, we, by and large, will win every game(what sucks is you can't say that about all the Sox starters right now). Garland's money, Buehrle looks like Buehrle and not Josh Stewart, and while Vazquez still is starting to blow up in the 6th, it was good to see that atleast Ozzie followed through on his promise of pulling him once trouble hit, even if he was cruising. It just sucks that Riske decided it was his turn to blow up. Contreras just makes my head hurt, cuz I don't know wtf is wrong with him.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) The Devil Rays are in a worse position than anybody else in baseball, IMO. They are never going to compete in that division with so many enormous payrolls in front of them. It's nice to think that one day they'll get into the playoffs, but it'll never, ever happen. Not without ownership spending money or a salary floor or cap put into place. It just won't happen. A good start would be to stop being a horrible organization. Something's gotta be wrong if everyone hates playing for you. Try spending some money, try bringing in some good character players instead of going talent every.friggin.time. Try to actually trade and make some good relationships with teams(they atleast started to do a little bit of that this year). Try building a market for some fans. Hell, try a goddamn name change. Who the hell wants to be a Devil Ray?
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) I guess that's one way to look at it. Or you can look at it that at the beginning of the year this rotation was being billed as one of the best ever. Or you can look at it, that from an individual player stand point this is the most talented roster in baseball. I've said it before but anything less than a world series championship from this team is a disappointment. Unfortunately, we're all going to be disappointed come October. So it's October then? The outlook isn't good...but the season's not over, they're a half a game back of Minnesota in the Wild Card, and are still only 5.5 back of Detroit. This team is playing really good baseball right now...they're just not friggin winning the games. Almost all of that is on the pitching. We have to pitch. If we don't pitch, we are screwed. I say just wait it out and see where this team is come October 1. If we're not in the playoffs, than it's a huge disappointment, even if the Sox win 97 games.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:53 AM) Not like they're setting the world on fire with him considering they had a better winning percentage with out him. That offense looked unreal when they were in Chicago. The umpiring was complete dogs*** in the series, but it looked very good and very tough nonetheless. Then again, come postseason time, you have to be able to pitch as well. I'm sure the Yankees will be just brimming with confidence throwing Cory Lidle/Jaret Wright come postseason time. Mussina's having a great year, but who knows if he'll come back anywhere near healthy. Wang's pretty solid, but he's put up a lot of his good numbers against mediocre or just straight up bad offenses. RJ's not getting any younger. and even though he's pitching better in the second half, a 4.63 ERA is just not good. (not like the Sox are in a completely different boat, but still)
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) If I was the cubs management, I would try my hardest to get Gardy from the twins. I think he is one of the most underrated managers in the game. There's something in the water in Minnesota. Friggin everyone stays up there. I mean, how the hell did they get Santana to sign a 4/$40 extension AFTER he won the Cy Young? Given, I'm not sure he'd even hit arbitration yet, but still, that's friggin ridiculous. Kelly was the manager from 87-01. I'm sure Gardenhire will probably be around up there till like atleast 2010. As pesky and frustrating as Minnesota is...they run a first-class organization, and you see it reflected in the way the players play and the way the players stay. It's pretty remarkable.
  11. Dusty Baker is the Yogi Berra of our time. The only difference is that Dusty's quotes are just flatout dumb.
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Even if the Marlins don't make the playoffs, this has been a great season for them. Great's an understatement. Given, I don't think they are anywhere near .500 without the NL being as absolutely horrible as it is, but it's still really cool that a team can just absolutely dismantle itself other than the 2 pieces they want to build around, and still compete for a playoff spot. If this doesn't send a message to the Pirates, Royals, and Devil Rays, nothing ever will. You can compete, and you can compete with nothing for a payroll, so long as you have good scouting and a good manager. I suppose Larry Beinfest being a pretty good GM helps too.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 02:10 AM) You are forgetting that this is the NL we are talking about.... 3 games and only 2 in the loss column is not much. No, I am not. I don't give a s*** if the league is talented as hell or pisspoor all-around...if you are 3 games back, and there are 4 teams in front of you, your odds of making it are very small. We may as well be talking about Arizona, Houston, Milwaukee, Atlanta, or Colorado here. They are all within 5.5 games, the same deficit of the Sox in the Central and the Red Sox in the Wild Card. The problem for the Marlins is that they have to play not only 3 games better than the Phils, Reds, Giants, and Pads, but they also can't play 3 games worse than those 5 I mentioned above. They'd have to far and away be the best team from this point on to win the Wild Card, and that's just not likely to happen.
  14. With 4 teams ahead of them, 3 games may as well be 8 games back.
  15. Don't blame the offense. The pitching was the problem on Saturday, not the offense. We got 7 runs in a game Johan Santana started. Any time you can do that against Johan and that bullpen, you NEED to win.
  16. They are all very fundamentally sound hitters. They can bunt. They can hit the other way. They'll hit it to the gaps and they'll take infield hits and just plain old singles. Imagine that. A team that can bunt. A team that can score consistently. Talent wise, the Sox pwn the Twins...but the Sox can't do anything consistently. Minnesota is awesome at that. With the talent, or lack thereof, in that lineup, it's amazing they are hitting .286 as a club.
  17. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) Everyone knows about Mauer and Morneau, but Bartlett hitting 351 and Tyner 317, add Punto's 314 and that's five?? There's almost no sports media coverage of this lineup, just wondering why with these stats, seeing that we have only 2 regulars over 300 (AJ and Crede just under) and the sports media drools over our offense 73 more runs, 75 more homers CHICKS DIG THE LONGBALL
  18. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) That deal was unimportant years ago when we all found out the Kip Wells isn't that good. Kip Wells and Josh Fogg could have made all the difference in the world in 2002, even in all their mediocrity.
  19. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Wins should mean nothing for Cy Young's. There are people like Bonderman who could have 16 or 17, but have 10 or 11 because of poor run support. Same goes the other way. How about for a guy with a line of 8-1 2.69 ERA 1.19 WHIP 4.39 K/9 and nearly a 4 K/BB since the beginning of July, while also being the only form of consistent(ly good) pitching on his entire team? 15-4 looks a hell of a lot better when you consider how pisspoor he started out th year.
  20. Goddamn do I love Jon Garland. It's days like these that make me happy we endured those days of 2003 suckitude
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) I don't think that's as much Thome's fault as it is the fault of guys like Podsednik. Last year, we had the impression of a moving team, because we had a guy with 60 stolen bases at the top of the order. Now, the guy who used to cause the most havoc on the basepaths is a joke on the basepaths. On top of that, the bottom of the order was weaker for quite some time than any of us expected, which also hurt. This year has felt a lot like 01-04 all over. One fast player in the entire lineup, a very weak bottom of the order, a strong top of the order, and mediocre pitching everywhere. Last year the Sox were a faster team. Willie was still here, Dye and Iguchi ran a little, Rowand ran, Podsednik was healthy for the most part, and they were just a faster and more fundamentally sound team. I look at this year's team and I saw 3 guys fail to get down a bunt last night. I saw no one trying to steal a base. It's sad, really. Thome has caused our offensive "problems" this year...Podsednik being a dbag hasn't helped, but by and large Thome is the reason the Sox are a station-to-station offense. Not that that's a horrible thing, I just hope that KW adds a little more speed to both the bench and lineup.
  22. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) So instead of Mack in CF, we'd see Pablo there more. Seriously. No, Damaso Marte would have been traded for an actual backup OFer...you know, an OFer that can play all 3 OF positions adequately. Macko's a great guy and a great bat off the bench, but Ozzie is making people hate him because he puts him in CF constantly. It just like, for Christ's sake, just get me a fooking backup centerfielder already.
  23. This guy sucks, let's trade him for 2 months of Alfonso Soriano
  24. I so suggested this in my sig a couple weeks ago I NEED ME SOME TIMO...YESSSSSS
