  1. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) the only guy that might not be getting enough innings...and I guess polite... HAIL NO any ballgame not in the 19th inning or a run differential of atleast 4 runs where Politte gets in is too many
  2. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) I'm curious to see how Leyland handles Verlander in the second half. I'm assuming he'll skip a few starts where he can, maybe call up a spot starter if the roster allows. The unsung hero for that staff has to be Miner. Kid just keeps putting up zeros and giving his team a chance to win. The kitties are 23-10 against the Central: 22-5 against teams not named White Sox. That's amazing. Hard to imagine they'll keep up that up, though. The White Sox went 52-22 against the AL Central last year. If you think Detroit is going to slow down against the AL Central, just because they are supposed to, you are sorely mistaken. BTW, point of interest...the Sox went 14-5 against Cleveland last year. What's even more fun is that they scored 80 runs while allowing 75. That tells me that the Sox were winning every friggin close game there was(RALLY CREDE!!111!1!!1!), and Cleveland would destroy them otherwise.
  3. I think Politte has more value than you guys think. You're not going to get a 5 star prospect for him, but just due to how thin relief pitching is everywhere in baseball, there will be teams who will take a shot on him. The guy was one of the best relievers in baseball last year...a team will hope that he can regain some of that form, or atleast eat some innings for them down the stretch.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 12:29 PM) Maybe the Sox can flip Garland to the Cubs for Wood, I'd like to see Coop try to work his magic with Kid K, we could have an Ace for our staff right there. I don't think there's much hope for Wood. If his arm isn't completely shot, I'll be completely shocked. Prior's a different story. Not considering potential lack of roids/HGH, he is intriguing. Still relatively young, not nearly as many arm problems as Wood, and he's fallen off the radar a little bit. I still am not sure I'd do either, just due to the injury risk, but it's worth a post on a message board anyways.
  5. Joe Borchard did end up paying off in the long run. What the f*** do you know
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) He was already replaced when the inital roster was announced by Jose Lopez I suck
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) He is. Like I said, I love Jason Schmidt and would love to get the guy with out having to give up Bmac or Brian but I just don't see that being possible. Unless of course SF wants a starting pitcher who is signed passed this season then who the hell knows what Kenny could pull off. I doubt that's the case but just throwing it out there. I'm sure the cf Kenny would try to acquire would be Mr. Jones but that's probably not realistic. If our starters don't get themselves right in a hurry after the break, I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see Kenny make a big splash. This is Brian Sabean we are talking about here. Why in the bluef*** would he want young players? Young players are the curse to him.
  8. QUOTE(loltrain @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) Betancourt went into a home run trot and was pointing into the dugout....unfortunately for him it was a routine fly ball. Edit: Also, lol at some of the Sox fans, you guys are a great team, relax and enjoy it. All the same, I think you've been hot almost all season and you still don't have the best record in your division, I'm not saying that you won't sometime soon, but it's pretty silly to say you're the best team by far. 2006 4.13 bullpen ERA 4.56 starter ERA 2005 3.23 bullpen ERA 3.75 starter ERA The pitching has been piss and vinegar all year, as opposed to last year. The offense has been friggin stellar, I'm not questioning that. When you're pitching has been as bad as the Sox has been, you're lucky to be 25 games over .500.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) Just for the record, Brian Anderson is now hitting .264 since June 11th. If it doesn't kill you, or if you find the time to do it(either/or), what is his OBP during that time period? If it's .330, he's been productive as hell by saving runs defensively and getting on a 3rd of the time. If it's more than that, he's looking even better.
  10. QUOTE(Wolverine31 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) About the last post, I think you just concentrate on making the playoffs any way possible whether it may be by winning the Wild Card or the division. But I think that poster pointed out the September 1st date because if I remember correctly we have a pretty tough schedule in August and a much easier September. If we can hold on to the division lead through August, I think we have a great shot at holding on the rest of the year because of how we've beaten up on the bad teams all season. Who the f*** cares? If the Sox get hot, they are the best team in the majors by far. It's a f***ing month. If come late September, the Sox are eliminated from the AL Central race, you then concentrate on getting the Wild Card. Also... 1. That your ass won't last past next week 2. I would have to sa...sorry, what, I can't read the rest of that, there's a World Series ring in my line of sight
  11. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 05:36 PM) The similiarities are many. Both teams could hit, with plenty of pop throughout the lineup. Both had a couple stud starting pitchers: Colon/Buehrle in 2003 and Contreras/Buehrle in 2006. Both teams were one of the best teams in baseball. The 2003 team ultimately couldn't even make the playoffs, failing to beat the first-place Twins late in the season when it mattered most. Hopefully the 2006 Sox won't face the same story when playing Detroit. 2003 first half = 45-49 2006 first half = 56-32 at the worst end of comparison
  12. You two aren't missing much, unless you don't mind watching the Sox play like s***.
  13. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) I wasn't worried about the Tigers until maybe 1-2 weeks ago. Once Maroth went down, I was expecting the team to play noticeably worse. The Tigers have kept winning as if nothing happened. I'm certainly not yielding the division, but if the Sox aren't leading the division by September 1, the team needs to concede the division and concentrate on the WC. Are you f***ing kidding me? Concede the division if they aren't leading by September 1? Have you f***ing looked at the Wild Card standings? The Sox are running away with it, 6 games ahead of the Yankees, and 9 games ahead of Toronto and Minnesota.. That's still a month to go. You don't concentrate on winning the Wild Card, you concentrate on winning some f***ing ballgames, and then hoping you get a bit lucky and the team ahead of you loses. I'm just wondering...do you not understand how quickly a team can lose a 3 game lead? Do you not understand how quickly a team can lose a 7 or 10 game lead? It's very easy to do - hell, the Sox almost did it last year. Concentrate on the Wild Card....psshhhhh
  14. Per Rotoworld Looks like Crede has a hell of a chance at getting in
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) WHarris must be jealous. Why would Willie be jealous of himself? THAT IS NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE
  16. If we are entering the way back machine, 7-2-03 is among the top, probably top 3 of this decade anyways. I listened to the Twins team do that game, and I thought that was awesome. Hawk's was the call of the night on ESPN, and you couldn't even finish him say "you can put it on the board." That was an awesome game.
  17. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) So you walk around late all day? cell phones rawk
  18. QUOTE(peanut33tillman @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Highly doubtful they're there scouting a Cleveland Indian, inner division trades dont occur likely in the thick of a playoff race and why help a division opponent? I'm sure these Sox scouts were there scouting a Yankee but as to who the player is I have no clue... QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) It doesn't make sense for the Sox to trade with a team that will compete for the the playoffs either. It's more likely to be the team that's out of the playoff mix, even if the team is in the same division. I doubt the Sox are there for trade purposes. They are likely scouting the Yanks, and if they pick up any info on guys they made trade for, that is bonus. You're not going to trade with New York, because you are giving up MLB talent, and you're not going to trade with Cleveland, due to them being a division rival and them being so close to knocking us out of the playoffs last year, unless the price is ridiculously cheap. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) The Sox play the Yankees 7/14,7/15,7/16. Seattle plays them 7/17,7/18,7/19. Detroit plays Cleveland 7/24,7/25,7/26. This easily could explain why those scouts were there. The Atlanta scout, that's a different story, but just because scouts are at games doesn't mean deals are being discussed. Teams want reports on every player from both leagues. This sounds like the most realistic reason I have heard. Also, if anything, I'd assume the Braves scout was there checking out people from New York for potential trades, but I would have no knowledge of who he would be scouting.
  19. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) Cincinnatti Reds = Minnesota Twins 2.0 Juan castro Joe Mays Eric Milton now Eddie Grant Balfour is rehabbing and is expected to join the team after the all star break Krivsky is cool like that
  20. Give Hermanson two appearances in the majors relatively early(6-7th inning) to prove if he has anything. If he does, put him in a more stressful situation, and see if he can hang. If he can't hang, he gawn, simple as that. I think the pen will be fine regardless, but the Sox could sure as hell use an arm or two to just flat out eat some innings. If Hermanson can handle it, by all means, let him. I don't think he can, but with a shot in his back before every game, he might be able to hang this year, and then hang it up next year.
  21. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 02:14 AM) Very good translation, I just had to make one adjustment. thxmuch I kinda figured I would be a little off
  22. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) Starter = more money, less weekly work, less pressure (I would say) I bet he'd do anything to be a starter again. From the way he pitched in the Series last year, methinks not. And regardless, if you are in the majors, and you are good, you are going to get paid. When your 10 year earnings are near $30 million(which is what I imagine Cotts' will be at some point over a period of time, assuming he remains a solid ass reliever), I think you've made enough money. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) He's a 2 pitch pitcher. He would not be a good starter. ^^^ = why he won't start You can add pitches, but I don't think the Sox are gonna mess with that
  23. QUOTE(Drew @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) Here's Jay! So I take it they are making another Peter Pan movie. great (sigh)
  24. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 11:50 PM) I just went over to fangraphs to check out his trends, and it's pretty crazy what he's doing right now. Prior to this year, his BB%, P/PA and K/BB had all been trending up, which was very encouraging to us Juan fans and stat heads. Now, they are almost all down. However, his ISO, and FB% are WAY up. He's having an AJ like 2005 almost: lots of fly balls with plenty of HR and doubles, few walks, lower BA and subpar OBP. His BABIB is down, as is his line drive percentage. His ISO is over 2, which is very, very good. If he can start taking soem damn walks, he'll be a damn fine hitter. I don't expect it though, and I'm a big Juan supporter/apoligist. If they don't understand it, they hate it. To translate(as best I can): "Over the past couple years, Juan has been starting to take more pitches and extending his ABs; thus, he's walking more and striking out a little less, which is very good news. However, this year, he isn't taking as many pitches, and as a result he's striking out more and walking more. However, he's getting more extra base hits and producing more flyballs, which is a good and bad thing. He's having a year like AJ....~ He was getting a bit unlucky, as a lot of the balls he was hitting were being made into outs, but some of that was due to fewer line drives. However, of his 61 hits on the year, nearly half(27) are for extra bases, which is quite encouraging. If he can start taking more pitches and start looking for good pitches to hit instead of just swinging at anything thrown at him, he is going to be a damn fine hitter..." Hope that helps ya man...I feel for you.
