QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) I think that our starters can actually be even better next year all around...think about this, if Jose takes his 2nd half and has it for a whole season, wouldn't he win a cy young? What about Buehrle...he struggled in the 2nd half when I think he was tipping his pitches. Garland hit a bit of a 10 game slump where he couldn't get his breaking stuff over. BMac struggled during his first appearance up. Those 4 guys, if they avoid injuries and keep their heads in the games, could all conceivably make a run at the cy young award. Call me a downer, but I'm not sure BMac has much of a chance at winning the Cy Young. He's young, so even with what he showed this year, he's likely going to struggle at some point in the season. I do like the rotation a hell of a lot though. The Sox need to keep a decent offense on the field next year before they do anything. If the Sox can have a good offense for the next 5-6 years or so...they are going to have one hell of a team for a long time. The AL Central is slowly becoming one of the best, and most top heavy, divisions in baseball. The Sox and Indians are both probably shooting at 100 wins next year, the Twins could be an 80-90 win team next year, depending upon the state of the offense and how the rotation pitches all around, Detroit's willing to spend money up the ass, but I don't think that's going to do anything for them...and then there's KC.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) They may move Anderson in a couple years but he is possibly KW's favorite player. Anyone notice Aaron Rowand's offense against good pitching in the playoffs? I'm not upset, we're going to win this thing without leaving Houston, but Aaron Rowand is not going to be the starting CF'er in 2006. So you are suggesting trading Rowand at a very low value, perhaps the lowest he's ever had? His defense brings up his value slightly, especially doing it in New York in the media spotlight...but a .736 OPS over a full season brings his value down tremendously. His net value is down. From what I have seen from Rowand in the playoffs, he is trying to pull EVERYTHING. Being a pull hitter is fine and dandy, if you are a 30-40 homer guy, or you are just gifted enough to be able to be a pull hitter and still put up a good OPS. There are very few hitters in the majors that can succeed like that...Rowand is one of the majority. He needs to go back to hitting to all fields, like in 2004. Hit that outside pitch the other way for base hits, hit balls up the middle...hit balls everywhere. If he can go back to doing that, he'll, at the very least, increase his OPS into the .800-.850 range, which will atleast bring up his value as a trading chip.

FWIW, the Sox are 14-3 since ColSat Passed...he's still with the team. RIP Sat

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) If Houston doesn't win all 3 in Houston, they'll have to defeat Buehrle and Garland back to back in Chicago. That's even tougher. (Thunder...) They hit Buehrle well. We were virtually hopeless against Pettitte. And I don't care how good Garland was this year...he was shaky at times during the second half, and he can be shaky any given time of the day. I want this series to end in Houston...I want no chance of them coming back. Hit Oswalt hard as hell tonight, tag him for 6(even though I predicted 4), and get to the pen right away. Just go up 3-0 tonight, and there is no chance we lose this series...not with FG-JC-MB-JG going in four straight games.

LOS said earlier in the thread that he hopes Goochi has a big game with the bat. I personally just do not see it unless he has gotten his timing back, and even if he has, I don't see much of a chance. He is way too late on the fastball and is usually pretty early on the breaking ball. Unless he's made some type of adjustment to get back to hitting that fastball, he's toast. I do look for Dye, PK, and AJP to have big games though. Dye is very much a fastball hitter, and has played solidly ts far in the Series. PK I look to have a large day at the plate. Coming off his grandslam, where he hit a fastball very well...I could see him putting up a very big hit or two for us tonight. I also see AJP doing well just because he seems to be a guy that is a guy that hits power pitchers with control rather well. His lack of patience makes for a good matchup due to Oswalt throwing a lot of strikes...thus his 5-8 thus far in his career against Oswalt. The main key is of course Podsednik...he gets on base and that is more potential runs for the middle of the order to produce. The second main key is the first inning. Give Big Jay Gee a little room for error, thus resulting in him pitching even more loosely than he really already is. I said to Willie that I look for about a 6 IP, 4 ER performance from Oswalt...and considering how Oswalt has pitched all year, that would be getting hit around. I don't want this Series going back to Chicago...that would mean Houston has some momentum going into the games, and with Pettitte and Oswalt pitching, I would not like our chances.

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) Why pay # 10 mil. a year for an old closer. A team can pick a young one up that throws 100 mp with a wicked curve for nothing ? Billy Wagner... 2004 - 1.12 BB/9 in 48.1 IP 2005 - 2.32 BB/9 in 77.2 IP Also, in that 04 campaign to make it so magnificent, he walked 6 guys. Some young relievers who throw in the 89-92 range walk 6 guys in 2 or 3 outings. The fact that he's LH doesn't make it any easier on hitters...I honestly am not sure I can think of another LH reliever that throws it 100 off the top of my mind...95-98 range is easy to come up with. Wagner consistently throws it at 100 MPH. I recall reading an article either after the 03 or 04 season in an ESPN the Magazine...something about how Wagner threw 50-100 pitches at or above 100 miles an hour, and the rest of the major leagues had about half that number.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) If theres a save situation I believe ozzie when he said he will be back in there. He just needs to throw that curve more. That curve vs the Angels where he struck out Vlad was completely untouchable. I think he went 2 innings that game and struck out like 4 or 5. Even if his curve isn't at it's best just by locating it as a strike and showing it to the batters he will unhittable. If he does not have good command of his curve, I don't want it ever being thrown for strikes. That is a pitch that can get hit a long ass ways if you miss. The only, only time you ever throw it for a strike is when they are looking dead red fastball, no exceptions. I love that pitch when he starts it at about the belt/chest/wherever and drops it into the dirt. That is a pitch that looks like the size of a beachball, but is about as hittable as a pebble.

(threads merged) Good news as far as I'm concerned. He looked horrible...that could be very good news for the Sox, especially if they can hit W(a/e)ndy this time around.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Maybe not the single biggest moment...but if your if comes true...it'll be at least in the top 2-3 moments of this series, no matter what else happens. Think about the other walk-off home runs in recent series history. Fisk, game 6 75. Gibson, game 1 88. Puckett, game 6, 91. Carter, game 6, 93 Jeter, game 4, 01. Aside from the Jeter/01 case, where the biggest moment was clearly the defeat of Rivera, all of those ones would have the walk off be either the single biggest or 2nd biggest moment of the series. I notice a relative trend in all those homers, aside from probably Jeter's. Fisk's sent the World Series to a game 7, and his wave and the East Coast s*** most certainly helps make that one memorable. Puckett's sent the World Series to a game 7, and him fullfilling his pregame statements of carrying the team on his back came true. Carter's homer won the Series. Gibson's I single out because it was early in the series...much similar to Podsednik's. He hit it off of an "untouchable" closer, much like Pods. He was not a guy you thought you'd even see in the series, let alone hit a game winning homer, much like Pods(in regards to the homer...we knew we'd see him, just not the homer). That is probably as close at it gets as far as comparison is concerned. So looking back...perhaps it could be the biggest moment in White Sox history. Then again, the last time the Dodgers had won the World Series was 81. The last time the Sox did it was 17. That's quite a bit of disparity, in my mind...so I view the Sox winning it as bigger...but Podsednik's homer could very well turn out to be the biggest single at bat in White Sox history...and I think that fits better too.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Wite and i have been thinking for a while that cotts is our best option to close. I am really hoping he gets a shot to next season ( not likely because of everyones fascination with jenks). But imo cotts had the most upside out of anyone in out pen and he gives us the best chance to close out games if there our 3-4 days in a row we need a save. Jenks loss of velocity after one inning and another inning is quite disturbing. Over the regular season i can only see him converting 65-70% of his save attempts. I'd agree 100%. Cotts is our best pitcher right now, bar none. There is no one I'd rather see out on the mound in the 8th inning, no matter the situation. I also kind of see a little bit of Billy Koch in Bobby. Both had absolutely stunning fastballs when they came up, both had solid breaking pitches, though Jenks' is superior, both struggle with control, and both very much overthrow the ball at times. I love Jenks as much as anyone, especially when he is on...but when he is not on, he is bad...and I am almost willing to say Koch/Thriller bad, but I'm not sure anyone can be that bad.

QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) The biggest single moment in Chicago White Sox history. Up to this point, I'd agree. If they finish this deal off and win it all, I don't think people are going to remember Pods homer as the biggest single moment.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) I guess it depends on if you view rape as about sex; or if you take the more informed view and consider it an act of domination, power, humiliation and putting someone in their place. . . Do I think that portraying people as mere sexual objects plays into that? Yes. Do I think that the constant saturation of violence in movies, tv, video games, music, etc has just as big a role? Yes. I don't view rape as solely a violent sexual act...I view it more as a violent act, giving the rapist power over the other, to fulfill a sexual urge. Bullies anywhere can feel that same domination and power over someone else with insulting and fighting, thus exhibiting their insecurity with themselves for whatever reason that may be(perhaps too much violence on TV, perhaps problems at home, perhaps a bit of depression), but there is no sexual interaction involved. I'd also very much agree with the last part of your post.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) Tell that to a rape victim. At least there's adoption. People that have never been a victim of a violent crime shouldn't say it's nothing. One could argue that even rape may have something to do with sexually explicit material on TV, could they not? I'm not suggesting at all that violence is a non-issue. I'm merely stating one of the reasons why most sexual material is not shown on prime time TV.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Yes, but how many walkoff HR's has Sizemore hit in the World Series? LOL Zero as far as I can tell.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) Play him versus righties some where of turf and he will put up at least a .360 obp imo. The twins would sure like to have him i am thinking. Just gotta hope he doesn't wind up in Minny. His ridiculous range? His ability to get on base? He would probably cause the Sox fits for a good 2-3 years, perhaps more.
-
QUOTE(CubsSuck1 @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) True... BUT considering the consequeces of violence it should be a no-brainer IMO. The odds of the average kid picking up a gun, going to school, and shooting people is never good. That doesn't mean that violence doesn't exist...but a kid getting beaten up, kids getting jumped, kids getting mugged, while all are very horrible, are nothing compared to a kid having unprotected sex one time and waking up 10 months later to the sound of a child crying.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) I dunno man, I mean I would think age plays a part, no? How can u say someone is "hanging around too long" when he is only 41 years old? O_o If the Sox go back to being an annual runner up, then Ozzie is ripped into for being a bad manager. He goes out now...he never EVER has to deal with that.

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) I think this is going to be massive for us and big for alot of baseball teams. you dont have to spend alot of $$$$$ like the yankees, to put out a winner. 2003 Florida Marlins - $49.95 mill 2002 Anaheim Angels - $61.5 mill 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks - $76.95 Those 3 teams were big for a lot of baseball teams, including the 2005 Chicago White Sox

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) I'd stick with Tavares in Center. Its too important of a position to treat for offense only. Taveras is hitting .400(14/35) with 3 doubles, 1 triple, and splits of .432/.543/.975 in the postseason, and is causing the Sox pitchers hell thus far...let alone that fact that he knows what the hell is going on in CF. No way to you have Burke play, atleast in CF. That would probably be a series losing decision by Phil Garner.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) In an age where a guy like Willie Harris can be a 25th man because he sucks up almost everything hit his way at second As a 25th man in the regular season, Willie is valuable because of his speed off the bench and his up the middle versatility. As a 25th man in the postseason, Willie is valuable because of his speed and speed alone basically. Not sure about Dellaero...but I'd guess he wasn't incredibly fast. And even Willie is a .650-700 OPS player with about a .320-.360 OBP at the MLB level, where as there is probably a chance Dellaero wouldn't put up a .500 OPS.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 24, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) You guys complain about every single announcer, analyst, etc. that doesn't bleed White Sox baseball. I hate Joe Buck and Tim McCarver more than anything, and I think Harold Reynolds is a joke aswell, but this is the time of your lives, live it up for christs sake. Agreed very much so.
