  1. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) Man I missed what looks like it was the game of the season. The game of the season has not yet occurred
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) Thank you Captain Obvious. Um, no Captain Obvious = Capn12 Durr :banghead
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Minny down 7-2 in the 9th!!!!! Ya, they lost
  4. Unreal Un f***ing real Scary thing about it was that I knew the Sox were going to win it too. Had the game turned off, figured they were lifeless all game, had no chance...and of course have a premonition that something good is going to happen. Turn on the tube as Willie scores the tying run. Then AJP goes yard. I love this team.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) Why "take out" anything? Buerhle is what Buerhle is. Pretty much. I, of course, have not much more to say, so I'll just say that I would not trade Buehrle. Then again, this topic is pretty much brought up at the wrong time. When baseball is this enjoyable, you don't want to break up a thing. Even suggesting this right now seems a little ridiculous.
  6. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) Well then it's 170-152. My bad, it's fixed. That works too
  7. Such a hard question to answer. With everything considered, there is quite honestly no pitcher I'd trade Buehrle for. You trade Buehrle, and you will be crucified by the fan base. When taking out his value as the face of the franchise, names start popping up. Santana, Halladay, Sheets, King Felix, Oswalt, and many others too. When taking out age all together, even more can be included, such as Schilling, Pedro, and again, probably others too. So which point of view are we looking from?
  8. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 02:17 AM) Why is everyone STILL so quick to give the Yankees, a team that has been floating around .500 at it's best points this year, and is currently only 2 games over .500, so much respect and benefit of the doubt? They haven't shown themselves to be worthy of the $200 million Steinbrenner has spent on them, and they haven't "flipped the switch", like they did last year after a bad April. Anyway... For those of you who are defining the best division in baseball as the one with the best combined record, here's how you would rank them, as of today: 1) NL East 178-155, 23 games over.500 2) AL Central 174-152, 18 games over .500 3) AL East 167-165, 2 games over .500 4) AL West 130-132, 2 games under .500 5) NL Central 188-206, 18 games under .500 6) NL West 154-177, 23 games under .500 Because the Yankees have an All-Star team of a 25-man roster, and they have millions upon millions more to spend. They don't believe Baltimore will hang around all year, and Boston has been shaky at times. And 174 - 152 = 22
  9. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) I agree. He needs to turn it around fast. He may be hurt again. Or it could of course just be that he came off the DL too soon, trying to tough out his injury, being the gamer he is...which is some of the stupidest s*** you can do, period.
  10. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) 11) When healthy, he's one of the top OFs in the game. We're looking smart now, but unfortunately I think Detroit is going to get the last laugh on this one. So which GM will be dumb enough to trade for him then?
  11. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) I'm just checking for clarity. s***ting on an NHL/NASCAR/NBA thread=wrong. s***ting on a music thread=not wrong? Alright, just checking. Because the only reason teens like Pink Floyd is because they are all stoners and that sounds cool when you are stoned Yeah, what he said^
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) I'd still do #7 for the right price! Texas isn't gonna take Willie and Timo And we have no room for his free-swinging, never taken a walk in his life, horrible defensive antics anyways.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) mainly AJ in CF Now that would be fun as hell to see
  14. If I watched the games, and I didnt work like a million days a week, I would have done better than Knight. Alas...
  15. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 03:59 PM) Not sure if there are many openings for shepards, but he could always get into carpentry. Bassmasters is a possibility
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) Wow, that would have been extremely -- odd, to say the least -- had that deal went through. Kind of weird, thinking back to how close (at least, how it was reported) that deal was to going down... Team would have looked a lot different, I can guarantee you that. Like all of this is a blessing in disguise. Those moves happen, and the team you see on the field right now has 0% chance of forming.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Wite, the rumor was that the Jose for Freddy deal was done if the Nomar for Maggs deal went through. After that fell through then Kenny probably didn't want to trade Jose and give the job to an unproven Uribe. I do recall it being some of the fallout of the Manny for ARod, Maggs for Nomar/Williamson talk. I will say that a little bit of this is actually starting to make some sense.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) Exactly what I said. The way the story is told.. Freddy coming to the Sox was a long time in the works and they wanted Olivo so the Sox needed a catcher to replace him. John and Jim remember all this better than I.. they were with the guys more than Jen and I were that night. We were too busy laughing at Wille pimpin in the lobby. I think the thing that is confusing me in all of this, or atleast in the FG/Davis situation, is that I thought I'd remembered reading somewhere where the Sox could have had FG for like just Valentin, and the Sox turned it down, due to Valentin's leadership, clutchness, and the fact that they would not have had a SS with Uribe being completely unproven. The M's would have done it because they needed a SS badly, having traded Guillen to Detroit, and FG had a burden of a contract at $7 mill while coming off 2 pretty poor years in a row. So is there no validity to that Jose s*** at all, or am I remembering reading that right?
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) Olivo was not on the "3 year board". Also.. at that point they knew Davis was coming with Freddy. In January/February they knew Davis was coming?
  20. Um... I don't believe baseball is mentioned in the bible, so should Carl, like, you know, find a new career? (I kid, I kid)
  21. WTF? Makes no sense to me Why would KW not want to sign a guy that just led his team to a World Series championship? Why would he not want to sign the closer from the World Champions for such a bargain price? Not discrediting it, just honestly wondering WTF is the reasoning behind that...is it something that can't be said, or not? If KW turned down IRod and then allowed him to sign with Detroit, a division rival...why???
  22. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Crede bashers...I know 3b is traditionally a power position...but assuming his average can come up to around .250-.260 range.... and he hits 25+ doubles and 22+ home runs, 70 RBI and 70 Runs (his currently projected totals), I'd take that from my 9th place hitting, good-defending third sacker (8th out of 21 in qualified fielding percentage for 3b). First of all, FLDG% is so unbelievably weak that that argument makes me sick. Royce Clayton doesn't make errors either, and quite frankly, I really don't want him as my SS at any time. I'd much rather have a guy with a strong arm and more range who makes a few errors here and there. Crede is a solid defender...underrated by some, and overrated by others...has a little bit of range, but does not have a ton, makes the plays he needs to, and makes some very good ones too. He is above-average defensively The fielding percentage thing just bugged me I think. Thats all
  23. QUOTE(southsider17 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) No big blockbuster this year (a first place team doesn't need one). That is shallow thinking at its shallowest(almost) Just because you are in first place, and just because you have a 5 game lead, does not mean you should not look to make a blockbuster move to help your team win a World Series. The one thing this team has been missing all year is consistently solid offensive production. Frank helps, but he may not be the end-all problems type player we need. We may, or may not, already have those players on the roster, as Dye is still heating up a bit, Konerko is as well, Jurassic is solid, Crede and Uribe can hit better, and I could probably go on still. This specific team may not necessarily need a blockbuster move, because they are pretty well set up and down...but if you would have said that in 2000 with KW at the helm(Scheuler was of course GM then, but I like playing hypotheticals here), you would have been very, very wrong. As it was, the Sox made a blockbuster of sorts, adding CJ and Baines to the team, and with KW at the helm, you could have seriously seen more than just that.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) I think the list goes like this... Gold Glovers Rolen Chavez Silver Glovers -- Consistently great fielders who haven't gotten their due. Beltre Arod Bronze Glovers -- Consistently good fielders who don't get the credit they deserve... Crede Lowell Ask any Seattle fan, they'll tell you that Beltre's defense has been amazing. That is if their not so upset that he's producing like Joe Crede at the plate. The point is, they're not acquiring a defensive replacement at third base. I prefer Koskie, when healthy, defensively over Crede. He does not have the strongest arm, but he has a ton of range, and he gets to almost everything down at 3B. I might actually put him in between the bronze and silver glovers. As far as the actual trade idea...it makes sense, and I'd have no problem giving up Marte for Mueller, quite honestly. A solid reliever for a guy with an OBP of almost .400? And this .400 OBP guy replaces a guy who has an OBP of like nothing? Sign me up.
