  1. In the ALDS, I'd love to see the Orioles. I foresee their offense as one that can be shut down very easily come playoff time, for whatever reason, and their pitching is nothing to write home about(though Julio-Ryan to close out games is pretty strong). And I honestly feel that Anaheim is one of the most overrated teams in the majors...a strong offense, no doubt, but their rotation is maybe just above mediocre, and their bullpen does not have nearly the depth it has had in years past. Boston would be favorable, as would New York. Texas seems to either be the team you'd love to face or that you'd hate to face. The team I probably would not want to face no matter what is Minnesota. Strong bullpen, up and down, decent offense, very similar to ours, and then of course Johan and Radke, who can both be extremely tough to hit, let alone beat, when they are on. You consider that you will face them 4 times at the very minimum in a 7 game series, and you then realize you have to beat one of them atleast once...and if you face them 5 times, you have to beat them twice. Not something that I would really want to deal with.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Ah, one day this offseason, we gots to go back and look at the few of us who were in Garland's corner for the longhaul. Beautiful seeing him pitch so well. Keep the walks down, and he'll be Ok. I'm thinking about makin' it out to the Sox game tomorrow. Go get 'em, Buehrle! Reminded me of Jason Marquis, after seeing what he did this past year. Of course, I was willing to trade that, plus some, for Randy Johnson. As they say, sometimes the best deals are the ones you do not make. Has never been truer for all of the proposed and nearly gone through Garland deals in the past(Garland, Singleton, and specs for Erstad; Garland, PK, and BMac for RJ; plus others probably)
  3. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) I wonder Why lou left the kid in so long. I have a feeling Lou just doesn't give a f*** at this point.... He doesn't. The Rays took a huge step forward last year in their overall development as a franchise and as a team, and Piniella wanted ownership to spend a little money to give the team a chance to contend, or atleast finish somewhere around .500. Nearly the exact opposite happened, as the biggest bat they brought in was Danny Bautista, and unfortunately for them, he retired in ST for whatever reason.
  4. Jon Garland has matched a career high for wins in a season Season's not even half over yet either. I love that f***in guy. I love this team. I want to marry them. Seriously.
  5. Haha, did anyone see Brantley flip-out on the Dodgers for f***ing up Gagne's injury? Rofl. This guy does not get heated up until you start messing around with closers...and then it's like he gets offended and he has his own personal agenda with you. First Ozzie doesn't put Hermanson in, and now the Dodgers I guess ruined Gagne's arm...I'm afraid he's gonna choke a b****.
  6. QUOTE(ARow33 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) lOOKS LIE KW IS LOOKING TO DEAL... HOPEFULLY WE WILL SEE ZITO IN BLACK SOON. Button directly to the left of 'A' And no
  7. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) any word on when Orlando Hernandez will be ready to return? If he's not ready to go do you guys have any idea who will take the 5th starter role? IMO we should keep Cotts in the pen and not piece him into the starting rotation. Probably McCarthy Why not take a chance on seeing if this kid can work through his struggles and get confidence in his pitches back(like as in, actually throwing them, and then throwing them well)? It's not like we're in the middle of a close race where 3 losses in a row from the 5th spot is gonna kill our chances of winning a thing. At the very, very worst, it means Minnesota and Cleveland gain 3 games in those games. That means they are 5 out instead of 8 out. Personally, I am all for McCarthy starting every game until Duque gets back. Let him get experience, let him take his lumps, let him try and pitch through the struggles.
  8. Pinned her for ya Maury I will almost undoubtedly be tuning in.
  9. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) No s***, Rob. I also like how the Angels are 2nd there too...they bunt and steal a lot too. And I'd like to see where the Twins were the past couple years on that same exact list, and where they are this year too.
  10. With the Indians winning like this, I just want to pop Major League in and listen to Bob Uecker. Cuz I'm bored and all
  11. QUOTE( Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 20, 10:57 AM) 1. NL East 2. AL Central 3. AL East 4. AL West 5. NL West 6. NL Central If you flip-flopped the NL Central and NL West in that list, I'd agree wholeheartedly Cuz there's actually a good team int he NL Central
  12. Lest we forget Baltimore can still make a move for a SP at the deadline, and there will surely be atleast solid SPs on the market. I like Baltimore's chances. Julio-Ryan isn't lights out, but it is very close, and the rotation is either showing an excellent amount of depth, or it is showing that it can collectively bear down and pitch well while the rest of the staff heals up.
  13. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) Anybody who wants play Gload over Erstad is smoking some crack.. Gload is a great bench player while Erstad is a great defensive player with some speed and could hit 300 Gload was great off the bench for us last year, so who's to say that he won't be good enugh as a starter? Or, at the very least, better than Darin Erstad? He's quite honestly probably just as good offensively, if not better, he's a good defensive player, and he will cost you $3-4 mill less than Erstad will too. The need for great defense at $4-5 mill per year at 1B is a bit ridiculous too. The offense is mediocre, while the defense is very solid. Why upgrade the defense and downgrade the offense?
  14. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) We played the worst we have all year in that series. No we didn't. A stretch against Texas and Anaheim was when we played our worst. We were getting b****slapped pretty good during that stretch of games. And as has been said, a team that is 8.5 games out is not a threat. We get swept in a 4 game series by them, and then they might be a threat.
  15. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) They had the chance to bring him back. Therefore, let me modify my comparison. It'd be like the Braves sending Jones to the Royals because they have Marte, who then release him a year later, and then letting him go to the Phillies. Still dumb to let a big rival have such a good player. Why aren't you guys letting me rip on the Twins? It'd be like me defending the Patriots. Those teams can both kiss my ass! What would the point of bringing him back be? They had a better catcher in Mauer and a better backup in Redmond. And I hate the Dolphins, but I will acknowledge a good move they make. I hate the Cubs, but realize that Mark Prior is the best pitcher in Chicago. You cant just rip on people to rip on them
  16. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) I would take Erstad for next year. Career .766 OPS at 1B for probably $4-5 mill? You can't honestly be serious I'd rather have G-load at 1B for the whole year than Erstad
  17. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) People would like to see the Sox filled thier holes to make the team better for this year and beyond.. We do have the best record but I would like to see them pick up a new starting pitcher I dont have any confidence in Hernandez being healthy he is already injured for the 2nd time this season... So you suggest they pick up Darin Erstad?
  18. Why do you two constantly bring up players to trade for? Can you two NOT see that the White Sox have the best record in the major leagues? I don't mind trade talk now and then, especially when the team is struggling and a move could be made to jumpstart the team, but you are bringing down the quality of the message board with this constant ridiculous, pipe dream, and sometimes stupid trade talk, especially considering the Sox ARE the best team in the majors. /rant off
  19. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 01:04 PM) A horrible pickup financially. That's part of it. I also don't want to pay $15 mill to any player, period, because then if that player gets injured, you are screwed. You can have f***in Bonds being stolen at $15 mill a year, but if he gets hurt, your team is f***ed.
  20. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) He still has a higher average than Kong does. But Kong has had way more homerun power this year. Konerko's in the last year of his deal, for starters. He'll almost undoubtedly be gone after this year. He will also cost $5-7 mill less per year than Helton, and the new contract he gets will run out sooner than Helton's contract right now, and the Sox would have to give up no players to get him, unlike if they wanted Helton. Helton would be a horrible pickup.
  21. .258 6 26 .386/.410/.796 Those numbers up there tell me all I want to know about bringing Helton to the Sox.
  22. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 03:09 AM) I know they had Mauer, and I know his potential is far greater than A.J.'s, but how do you let a damn good player (even though you have what most feel is a better replacement) like A.J. go to your main division rival, even if he went somewhere else when you first released him? That's like saying the Braves would let Chipper Jones walk to the Phillies because they have Andy Marte. No, its like saying the Braves let Chipper go to the Royals, only to see him non-waivered and then picked up by Philly. Nothing you can do about it. And they don't care, they got their closer for atleast probably another year, and I want to say they got Bonser in the trade too. San Francisco let AJ go after one year. I'd say the Twins have to be feeling pretty good about it, actually, considering how much more value they are getting out of it rather than the Giants. There is nothing you can do about him coming to the Sox. It's like saying the Indians shouldn't have traded Colon to the Expos because he then came to the Sox the next year. With the package they got, they would have been dumb to turn it down.
  23. Except that their rally hat one is retarted.
