The curse! From the Red Sox.... to the White Sox??
witesoxfan replied to TheBigHurt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(WhereAreMyShoes @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Just because 5 or so good players are hurt doesnt mean anything its just coincidence. Coincidence? Is it also just a coincidence that there are much harsher penalties for steroid use this year too? I'm just not buying Bonds', Garciaparra's, Maggs', and perhaps even Thomas's injuries having nothing to do with being off the roids. You also have to consider that Juan Gone and Sammy Sosa have missed time this year too, and that numbers offensively are down EVERYWHERE, especially 3Bman. Roids was a huge problem, and you are already seeing almost instant results from people being off roids, and I honestly have no doubt that's what it is. -
QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) hope this doesnt take away save opps from my fantasy closer looper If it does, the Mets are in teh troublez

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Griffey still pulling in at 4. He's not as popular as he once was, but it's cool to see that he still is getting a lot of votes. No it's not

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) Good lord. He's my age. He'd be able to play a season of rookie league and a full season next year, and still only be 18 after 2 years in the minors. Hell, if he only progressed 1 level a year, he'd be 21 by the end of his 1st full year in AAA. First player I have seen that is younger than me anywhere. Damn, I'm getting old

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 05:55 AM) It has little to do with throwing the ball too hard as it does with him having a real should problem. clearly, 15 days on the DL wasn't what the doctor ordered so I don't know where the Giants turn from here Dr Andrews of course

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 01:55 AM) Good teams make their own luck, wite. The Twins have been "lucky" for the past 3 years. I'd agree if the Sox had been lucky like this for the past 3 years. I've only seen it in the first half last year(specifically April), and then this entire year...mainly, again, the first half.

AL Central is the 2nd best division in baseball, just behind the NL East. When probably the most talented team up and down the division is not only underachieving at 2 games above .500, but is also in last place, you gotta figure that the division is strong. And when, outside the division itself, the rest of the division only has 2 teams that are below .500 against 2 other divisions(Atlanta at 3-6 against the West and Washington at 6-7 against the Central). And yet another interesting note...the NL East, as mentioned above, has all 5 teams above .500. The only other division with the second to last place(4th in the AL East and Central and NL West, 5th in the NL Central and 3rd in the AL West) being at or above .500 is the AL East and the Yankees at 28-28. Was bored and couldn't sleep, so I had to do somethin...lol

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) But for now its all about..."Out of Exile" by Audioslave I haven't said like anything about Out of Exile in this thread since it came out(though I have mentioned a few times here and there) I think I may be Cornell's biggest fan on the site, and I have to say that I am a little disappointed lyrically with the album when it comes right down to it. I personally think they sound a lot better than the first album, but the lyrics are not doing it for me.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) Alex Rodriguez. I'd say Bonds too. I think he did it in 96(off the top of my head...if I am wrong, I'll correct it later), well before his roid days. He really did not start apparently roiding till like around the 01 season...and you can tell he started roiding for obvious reasons.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) So you are saying we should be something like 53-2? While I don't necessarily agree with the above poster's logic, I can understand where he comes from and I do think I know what he's talking about. Off the top of my head, I can't name all the games Ozzie has made a real big-time blunder when it comes to managing the pen, because he has been horrible about it. I would also say that 10-15 games is not an unreasonable amount We've also had a lot of luck on our side this year, so that needs to be considered. What I would say is that Ozzie has theoretically(as an example, Memorial Day...that was a game we should have lost, and we should have lost it because Ozzie messed up) or literally(no explanation needed) "lost" 10-15 games this year with bullpen f*** ups. What is not taken into consideration in his post is how many games Ozzie has won with just his prescence in the clubhouse and his ability to have changed the mindset of the entire team(with the help from KW) in less than 2 years. He is the reason we are 37-19 right now...there is something about him that makes players run through walls for him. They love the guy and love playing for him.

I have seen a lot of ridiculous things in this thread. There is too much I want to say, and I don't have the time to say it. At the very least, let me say that I very much doubt you see a major move...with the possible exception of trading Willie...until after the ASB. The team has shown no real needs that have to be addressed right now to help solidfy the team any further. Some depth to the pen would be nice, but as of right now(talking in the present, for about the next month to month and a half), it is not necessary, because you don't even start making a run for the playoffs yet, since we are not even halfway through the year. We also have a little bit of breathing room, so we are not being pressed to make a move whatsoever. And let me also say that I honestly doubt you see either Everett or Thomas traded. Everett's leadership and his bat(while streaky, it is still decent) mean too much to the team to be traded. And Thomas is still probably a top 20 offensive player in all of baseball when healthy...you don't find .270 30 100 .420/.530/.950 players growing on trees nor do you even find them on every winning ballclub(though you'll find about 6 each on the Sawks and Yanks ) And...f*** I said I didn't have the time to talk much, and here I am still talking...I do believe what Ozzie said in his follow up. I shouldn't, because I think I've explained myself in one of the 4128 Eric Chavez threads, that you should never listen to anyone within an organization when it comes to stuff like this for various reasons, but I do. I've explained my reasoning above (and PS...while I don't think the A's are looking to deal Chavez, I don't doubt they are fielding offers for him, and if Beane gets one he can't refuse, I assume he'll make the deal. And quite frankly, the Sox are probably doing the same exact thing here with both Thomas and Everett, and I don't think they'll get an offer good enough to make a deal)

Are we talking about Preston Wilson going to the White Sox, or going to another team? Because... Why the f*** would we want Preston Wilson?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) Contreras should have a lot more wins. He never gets any run support. But he also doesn't always last too many innings. That's another reason he gets a lot of no decisions. Duque = 9 starts, 6 wins, 52 innings = 66% winning percentage, 5.78 IP/start Contreras = 11 starts, 2 wins, 66 IP = 18% winning percentage, 6 IP/start No run support is why he is not winning games, not because he does not last long

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) He hits 91-92 now when he use to throw 95 consistently. Three miles is a huge difference unless you are extremely good which we cannot say that much for vizcaino. He is surely not trevor hoffman or anyone or that ilk that has lost velocity and was still as good as ever. A pitcher losing velocity on his pitches when coming to the Sox? Where have I heard that before? Jesus f***

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) You're gonna blame Timo for being thrown into a position he's never played before, Assuming you are just talking about his stint in the MLB and discounting his stint in Japan. Personally, I think Ozzie is keeping Timo because Timo reminds Ozzie of Ozzie. Not so fast and no plate discipline along with being left handed Atleast Ozzie gave us good defense Man, this is f***ed up. The Sox should slurp on Timo some more.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Well, a lot of people said that relievers are (or were) big steroid users. So, maybe that's it That's what I was thinking

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Obviously he's very hard to hit but with the amount of walks he usually issues you'd think there would be no chance for that. That is why He has a BB/9 of 3.68, which is, I believe, the lowest of his career; at the very least, it is much lower than it was last year. His H/BB(a virtually useless stat that I just made up off the top of my head) is 1.78, meaning he walks a lot, but that he is also hard to hit...or it could mean that he is really really bad and that he has walked a s***potful and have given up that many more hits too. It could also mean that he has walked very few, given up very few hits, but that s*** doesn't happen, especially with Jose. What I am trying to figure out is WTF is with all these pitchers breaking through? Steroid use actually was that widely used by the rest of the MLB? Harang, Bonderman, Myers, Garland, Capuano, Rogers, Bedard, Chen, Silva, Young, Santos...I never remember this many guys pitching much better than their career numbers this late into the season. It's almost ridiculous. Offenses all around are down, and do to direct cause/effect, pitching staffs are incredibly better. Jose Canseco was right apparently?

Fans vote counts 40%, players vote counts 20%, coaches/managers vote counts 20%, front office/scouts/owners counts 20%. That way you dont have f***in Garciaparra as the starting SS in a wheelchair in the All-Star game...since it counts and all

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:07 AM) Back to the topic Throw Crede under a truck and get Vinny Focking Castilla here please For future reference You can say f***ing on here, and IMO atleast, it is more meaningful and helps to prove the point more Like for instance, 'Crede is a f***in dumbass who cant hit to save his life' is more powerful than 'Crede is a fockin dumbass who cant hit to save his life' Get what I am saying?

QUOTE(ptatc @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) I though that was the waiver rules. I brought this up earlier in the year but someone said I was wrong because of the Manny Rameirez deal. When the Bo Sox tried to release him Why didn't someone sign him for the minimum and the Bo Sox cover the rest? You can put any given player on waivers at any given time, and you don't have to release a single player. You see it all the time in August with the waiver trade-deadline approaching and all. You can put someone on waivers in order to grant them their unconditional release from the organization, thus making him a FA...that is what Cinci did here. You can also put someone on waivers to designate them for assignment...most of the time to remove them from the 40 man roster. These players will be given the opportunity to accept the assignment(to the minors), or can ask for their release from the organization. The difference with a lot of these waivers is that they are revocable...if another team puts in a bid for a given player, the home team can pull that player back off of waivers and keep them on the team - however, if the same process is done again, and the player is claimed, they cannot reclaim the player, and they are property of the other team. In Manny's case a couple years ago, he was put on irrevocable waivers, thus making it so if a team put a claim in on him, the Sawks could not reclaim him, and he would become a member of the claiming organization. (I think...lol) -
