  2. QUOTE(T R U @ May 1, 2005 -> 12:07 PM)
  3. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 1, 2005 -> 02:52 PM) If you can't win 60 ... you don't matter. And the opposite pertains as well. If you don't lose 60, you're a playoff team(except if you are the Giants from 1993, then you're just out of luck)
  4. QUOTE(The Critic @ May 1, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) It's a very interesting stat, but beyond the obvious ( that leading a game is better than trailing ), I'm not sure how big of a deal that is. I know, doesn't mean much But it is cool to look at anyways.

    O fors

    QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 1, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) Well yeah but his average is consistent. That does not mean he is going to be consistent though
  6. The Sox had led at some point in all 25 games this season...I think most of us are well aware of that. The 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers are tied for first...they won 98 games in 55 and the Series. The 1998 San Diego Padres are #3 on the list...they got to the World Series that year and were swept by the Yankees. Looks like good company to me. f*** the h4t3rz
  7. QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 1, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) Pods arm = bad for CF Everett's arm = bad for RF Add to the fact that Everett is bad defensively, and you see why you want him in LF. Plus, it's not like having a weak arm in CF is a bad thing...Juan Pierre is a very solid defensive CFer, but he throws like a girl(GASP ), and Kenny Lofton won 4 straight gold gloves in CF with a very not-so-strong arm
  8. Everett won't play RF, he will play LF, if/when we need him to play full time with Dye on the bench. Everett-Pods-Rowand.

    QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 1, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) These are the kinds of posts that I like. Thanks for the chart, as long a he is consistent, I'll be happy....as long as he is NOT consistently BAD. You won't be happy then As the chart very well shows, Dye appears to be one of the streakiest players in the league.
  10. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) For all of you that b**** out Ozzie for PH Timo over Gload... Jermaine Dye made contact with the ball all 4 times he went up to the plate that night, IIRC. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU PINCH HIT FOR HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE? The guy has no confidence at the plate or in himself at the given time, so as a manager, you should put him into a situation where he can succeed easily, therefore raising his confidence. PHing anyone for Dye at the time left me mystified, considering what I just said, but then you put in a guy that is hitting WORSE then Dye? f***in brilliant Ozzie. Hindsight is 20-20, but I had felt all along that pinch hitting was the wrong move to make there.

    Happy Easter!

    QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 1, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Not necessarily IN the church but on holidays, yes. For example, on our "slava" which celebrates the birth of the saint which represents your family, it is traditional to drink red wine and toast to another family member....I "legally" get to drink under-age! Red wine, ick I prefer beer
  12. QUOTE(T R U @ May 1, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Its hard, my girlfriend I was with for a year and a half, we broke up about a month before prom, so I end up going with one of my friends instead.. then this other girl in our groups parents set up this beach house in Galveston, too bad they went too and had like sandwhiches and coke and s*** and were there the whole time.. so the only thing to do was play video games.. no alcohol, no drunk naked b****es, no fun.. It was horrible like I said I think I probly woulda gotten a hotel room instead, and said to the parents, fish u niccas. Woulda been the easier path.
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) I wonder who did more to prove the point, the Twins or White Sox? The Twins have. If I am understanding you correctly, and I think I am, they have gotten it done constantly in late-game situations, moreso than about any other team in the majors. Of course, having as good and as deep of a bullpen as they have helps. When you can go into the 7th inning of a game knowing that you probably wont give up a run for the rest of the game unless it goes like 15 innings, your confidence at the plate goes way up...though, confidence, too, is not a trackable statistic
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) Just another failed team, in my opinion. That may be so to you...but I have not watched years of Sox baseball either. When I see a team that talented in it till about September 15th, give or take, and then to lose it the way they did hurt a hell of a lot.
  15. QUOTE(Nokona @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) My two favorite calls are from the extra inning game vs. Minny a few years back where Frank hit that monster walk off in extras. Rooney: "AND THOMAS LOSES IT INTO THE NIGHT! THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!" And then Hawk "Stay Fair, Stay Fair, ITS GONE! SOX WIN!" or something to that effect. Dick Bremer's was the best...something along the lines of... 'Thomas hits it deep, and this one will stay fair, and the White Sox win' Best part of it was that you couldn't hear him saying and the White Sox win. His voice had just faded into the noise of the crowd. That was probably my favorite game from that season. Konerko, hitting like .180, pinch hits, and hits a game-tying homer. Just incredible.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) Statheads don't know all there is to know about baseball. There is a place and a need for stats, but actually watching a player will tell you more than any stat. Some pitchers have a knack for getting that clutch DP, while others get that deer in the headlights look when they need to get that DP. I feel the exact same way, and I'd consider myself a semi-stathead. I love using those types of stats and valuing players, but when it comes right down to it, the game is beyond stats. The Twins have proved over the past 3-4 years exactly that. You would think they would stop being 'lucky' after a while, but at some point, that 'luck' is no longer luck, it is just something that happens.
  17. Has to be 2000 Of course, the team I have hated the most was the 2003 team. I loved them until I saw the Twins showering themselves in champaign. So much talent, so good, and they choked. That team was a World Series team, and I say that with no second thoughts and no doubt in my mind. They probably would have just cruised through the playoffs. 8-11 against a team that lost 119 games, lost like 3 1-0 games that ELo started, and won like 1 game from the 5th starter spot all year long. Those 3 factors killed us.
  18. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) Correct; Timo. Timo and Jermaine can hold hands
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 30, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) To begin, the Sox aren't going to continue with their lack of production with the bats. To me, that's a given. Secondly, if the Sox are walking and striking out hitters at a rate similar to others yet still winning then one of two things are happening ... they are playing better defensively than other teams, or our pitchers are coming though in the clutch. I think it's combination of both. Neyer is a stathead. Clutch, as in getting a clutch DP, is not really a documentable statistic(and I say not really because clutch factors are extremely subjective...case in point, Steve Finley last year in the article that santo posted a while back ago). Defense can be a really difficult to track statistically too, because the statistics can be skewed...such as Jose Valentin having the best zone rating last year and being in the top 5 for range factor. I love Jose, but I will admit that he is not one of the best defensive SS in the league defensively. I still, of course, feel he is undervalued and underappreciated defensively though.
  20. QUOTE(Nokona @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) He will play a role in this team's run for the division title. A big one. Someone has to carry the luggage to the bus
  21. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) This just in: witesoxfan still smells like a foot. ...so, wow. I guess that's two facts for one day. Atta' boy Jon, you've been a pleasure to watch! I thought I was smelling clean and fresh today like a gentle breeze outside. Tomatoes, tomahtoes I guess
  22. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Well it is good that his offense hasn't seemed to suffer that much. Lets just hope he can get around the bases soon. It's not that hard to hit baseballs in batting practice. Ask Brian Buchanan
  23. I will say that her taking this to the paper is completely wrong. There is nothing wrong with a little shake up, a little controversy...but when you take it to the paper, a little controversy turns into a huge controversy in the blink of an eye, and that is wrong. That is a teen that is trying to express her right of free speech too much And qwerty - :finger
  24. OH NOS, LEADOFF WALK EVEN WORSE NEWS I AM SUSPENDED FROM TEH CHAT!!11!111111!!!!11111!!!!!
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) COme on Apu, you aren't that far removed from HS... a bunch of teenagers running around with the word "Vagina" on their shirts isn't disruptive? These are the people fart jokes are made for. These are the same kids that snicker everytime an anatomically correct term for any reproductive organ is used. It IS disruptive, I don't think that is even an issue. Fart jokes are funny, and if you don't like fart jokes, that's your own opinion. People young and old will still laugh at fart jokes, whether you want to believe it or not. That was not the part of the post that bugged me most. This was... We just recently covered the reproductive system in my anatomy class, meaning we used the word vagina, penis, scrotum, urethra, clitoris, breasts, and all the other terms, and I never heard a snicker. We are just finished up the urinary system today, meaning we used the terms penis and vagina again, and the same thing occurred...no snickering. In 8th grade, we had a preventing early pregnancy program, and I laughed a little afterwards, not because the words penis and vagina were being used, but because it was my best friend's mom who was saying it, and I'd never heard those types of words from her before...and it was really not that she was saying penis and vagina, but just the way she was saying it. Mind you, I was also still in 8th grade then, and sex was not a huge deal to me...seemed like it was still very far away. And in Latin, the cardinal number for 6 is 'sex'...and I will laugh, while also being blatantly obvious about how sarcastic I am. Sexual terms are not as big of a deal as you seem to think we, as teens, think they are.
