  1. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Agreed. Make sure to get that mock in wite! Of course. I'll probably look into it either tomorrow or Thursday night. Of course I have to work Friday night, and the last time I worked a Friday night...which was last Friday...I was there till 1:30
  2. I would personally make him be a fan of the Montgomery Biscuits. If that's not an option, and it has to be a major league team(which I assume eliminates Kansas City from the equation), I would probably pick Cincinatti, so that way he can cheer for the winner of the Cubs-Reds games.
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) My entry will be last minute as well (as it should be). This draft is really up for grabs. It's going to be real interesting on draft day. I'm very excited to see what kind of talent this draft produces. Put it this way, if Braylon is there at #4, he'll be suiting up in Blue and Orange. And if he's not, Jerry Angelo should be fired on the spot
  4. They need defense, and you can't have enough depth on the OLine. So all of the above, if possible? I said Miller, because I have seen them taking a CB in some mocks. Hope it works.
  5. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Cleveland may take Edwards. They do have a need at WR...as a lot of teams do need a big playmaking receiver with the talent of a Braylon Edwards...but I just gotta feeling that will either be something they address elsewhere or at some other time, and that they need more picks to try and turn that horrible joint around. Another thing to consider is that Romeo Crennell is taking over, and if he is taking over Belichick's offensive system too - which I assume he is - they really do not have a need for a big time playmaking receiver. New England has won 3 Super Bowls in 4 years, and they've had David Givens, Deion Branch, and Troy Brown as their top 3 receivers, so I just think they need WR's who will catch the ball, and they need a QB who can make the necessary throws, ala Tom Brady. And even knowing that, I still don't see Braylon lasting till 4 (though he very well could, and it wouldn't surprise me either) I think I will end up getting my mock draft in at the last second...and even then, there is a very solid chance that it is wrong.
  6. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) If Rodgers goes #1 Miami will take Smith or trade im almost 100% positive on this.. That opens up a hell of a lot of doors now, doesn't it? Knowing that...I honestly have no idea what the f*** is going to happen past 2 then, mainly because I have no idea what direction Cleveland is going in, though I'd imagine if Miami stays at 2 that Cleveland will probably try and move down. Will be interesting to watch at the very least.
  7. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) Well the idiot i am at sometimes posted something that doesnt make sense i think it was How into are you in the draft? lol
  8. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) Thats pretty much what im thinking too, IF Miami doesnt take him.. Thats a possibility Saban likes Campbell and Frye a lot too, no? I have read that, and that is why they are trying to get the Surtain deal done, or trying to talk Tampa into trading up. So basically any of the second tier QBs could and probably will be headed to Miami.
  9. I try to watch both days, but the commercials just get so annoying. They will talk for like 3 minutes and then go into a 10 minute commercial break, or so it seems. Anyways...just curious, what was the initial question? If it is as funny as it sounds, I want to hear it.
  10. QUOTE(traydragen @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) How's that?? I think it could possibly play a psychological role with the players, but in order for this to happen they must first believe that a "jinx" in real and actually occurs. In no possible way can somebody convince me that posting something on a message board can interfere with the outcome of a baseball game....Seriously people grow up. It's karma. Just how I feel, and I'm sure how many, many others do too.
  11. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) problem is by the time the offense comes around, the pitching will go into a funk...its the ups and downs of baseball....but we'll keep on keepin on, and as long as we win series, thats all that matters. Well if we win or tie every series we are in, we will end up winning something like 108 games, give or take. I very much doubt that happens...but I'll take it
  12. QUOTE(T R U @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) 3-4 Round is where he will go.. If a team REALLY gets a hard on for him, 2nd round... but I think the 3rd round is more of a real situation for him.. That would be late 2nd round too...if he goes within the first 50 picks, that team pretty much has to be set everywhere else. I am thinking early 3rd, and I think it will be Arizona.
  13. QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) There's no such thing as a jinx you fruit-cakes I liked the use of the word fruit-cakes in that sentence. Made me laugh more than had you used a cuss word. Good stuff. I don't believe in jinx's either. But it is uncanny how stuff happens jinxish. Perhaps because jinxes work?
  14. At the same price, I would take Valentin over Crede in a heartbeat. Very underrated defensively, has been a clutch player his entire career, a very good leader, a very smart ballplayer all around. When considering Jose @ 3.5 mill, and Crede at $500K, if that...I'm gonna take Crede in a heartbeat. Or maybe I will take Valentin in the first half and Crede in the second? I'm not sure yet
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) That's why I always thought Helen Waite would have been a great screen name for a moderator. We could tell people to go to Helen Waite. That is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad ...in a good way of course
  16. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) The problem though witesoxfan is that you are getting that production at a very big power position in MLB, and the rest of your lineup is now lacking in power. You have to somehow replace Konerko's power, or Gload is really a glaring weakness, no matter if he puts up "respectable" numbers or not. I have, quite honestly, always thought power was extremely overrated, or that people have entirely overlooked doubles and triples as power, because it is not going out the ballpark. And, not that Gload will ever hit a lot of homers, but I could see him putting up .270 20 80 .800, perhaps being a very similar player statistically to Brian Daubach of 01 and 02. It is not great production, but if you spend that extra $9 mill wisely elsewhere, I really do not see a ton wrong with it. It would be pretty easy to replace the power lost by Konerko. Perhaps you ship Crede and someone else out in a trade for some power elsewhere...maybe Crede and Dye along with a prospect for a RFer who is fairly solid, and you then sign a 3Bman with the left over money, and perhaps have Fields come up as a 1Bman for the first year or so, or have the incoming 3Bman know that he may end up moving to 1B at some point down the road. There are a lot of possibilities out there.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Our obp is gonna be sad. does our team OBP of .276 not excite you somehow?
  18. Also quick, to answer a question you asked earlier about Gload potentially starting at 1B next year...I personally would be perfectly happy with it, so long as you get another backup 1Bman in here who can be a good bat off the bench. If Gload can prove to be a .270/.350/.450 hitter over a full year, there is nothing wrong with it, especially for around $1 mill, considering you would end up paying $9 mill more for 100 more points of OPS out of Konerko, who is also slower and worse defensively. What would be even better is if Gload could prove to be like a .300/.380/.500 hitter, but I won't count on that ever.
  19. QUOTE(heavyduty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:09 AM) Jason Campbell because Shannahan has to be fed up with Jake Plummer by now. Campbell could very easily fall to them in the 2nd...or at the vrey least, they can look at someone like Orton/Walter/Greene in the 2nd round if they feel it necessary. They will have a chance at getting a good young backup QB. Campbell would be a horrible choice at 25, considering most don't even have him as the 3rd best QB in the draft(Smith-Rodgers-Frye-Campbell)
  20. I guess one thing I don't understand is how someone can't like Gload. I am not sure I have ever seen him even talk to the media, let alone complain, he has produced everywhere he's been, he is clutch, and he plays 1B quite well. Reminds me a little of John Olerud or Mark Grace all around...and what is wrong with having a player like that? He's not the best guy out there, but he is a very solid player all around. I also do not see why someone puts out faceless bashing without even considering the numbers of certain players, yet then brings up how Dye has a .130 average against Piniero...if you are going to avoid numbers like Gload's, avoid all numbers period.
  21. QUOTE(knightni @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) The mock draft that I get my draft order from has Jackson listed higher than Washington. Fabian running a 4.25 40 at the combine helped his stock immensely. I have Fabian higher then Marlin right now.
  22. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) The thing is when they give up runs they usually don't give up one at a time. It always seems to be two or three at once. Seems like we cannot afford to have either of them in unless we are losing by a lot or winning by alot. I still don't think our bullpen is as good as most do. When you have both politt and cotts in there how can it be considered one of the best? I have heard that around here alot in the off season. We still need to upgrade now or at the dead line if we are serious in my opinion. Three runs should also not be considered a save situation... just seems a little ridiculous to me... but i have said that before. That is a problem...so in those instances, Politte and Cotts would be on very short leashes, and at the first sign of trouble, you have one of Viz/Marte/Herm/Shingo come in and try and bail them out. I would agree that we need some improvements in the pen if we want to make a long run into the playoffs too. Our depth could very well be second to none in the majors, but depth does not mean a lot in the playoffs when depth is a 4.50 ERA in the pen. Serviceable relievers do not cut it in the playoffs...they have to be good. I honestly have no idea why a 3-run lead is a save situation...it might have something to do with a grand slam giving the opposition the lead, but that happens like twice a year...so yeah, a 3-run save situation is just stupid and is a stat padder.
