QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 11, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) How long is pot in your urine system? 60 days. It is fat soluble, not water soluble too -
Colon is pitching alright, and Escobar is solid. But I look at see Washburn, Byrd, and Lackey, and see 3 mediocre pitchers. Washburn is pitching over his head right now, and Byrd and Lackey are not that good. It is just one of the reasons I hated their offseason so much. Instead of keeping Eckstein for $3 mill, you non-tender him and sign Cabrera for $3.5 mill more per year. And you sign Steve Finley for 2 years at $8 mill per, which again, does not make much sense to me...the guy is coming off a career year at like 39, and you give him $8 mill per? And then instead of using that money on the s*** mentioned above, you should bring in a guy like Pavano, Clement, Pedro, or RJ, and then worry about other, less protruding needs. Does Pedro-Colon-Escobar-Washburn-Lackey not just look outstanding? Hell, even Colon-Clement-Escobar-Washburn-Lackey looks acceptable, and better than the garbage rotation they have now. If you sign Clement, you still the money to even get Finley if you want him that badly...you just still have to hang onto the underrated David Eckstein over the overrated Orlando Cabrera.

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ May 11, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) I will admit, I'm worried about them facing Prior. From the way he's been pitching this year, that's gonna be a tough one. If those matchups do remain the same, then I hope El Duque can match him pitch for pitch, 'cause I don't see the Sox scoring alot of runs in that matchup. Duque will He is a big game pitcher. He'll step up.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ May 11, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) They're in first place but happened to not play real well for a stretch. It happens You mean like the best team in baseball losing a series to a last place team?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) I have no idea where to start. First of all, when I see worst teams to root for, I am not going to think of how tough it is to root for a team, I am going to think the team is a bad team to root for. He didn't initially mean that at all. If he did, he would have said toughest teams to root for, or hardest teams to write for. He just wanted his chance at taking a pot-shot at the White Sox in the media; he wanted to join the crowd and do what was popular. Him saying that alone threw this entire article out the window. Secondly, he mentions how the Sox have not won in 9 decades as a reason why it is hard to root for them, yet he roots for the Indians, who have not won one since 48, and while that is not nearly as long ago as 17, he has still never seen them win in his lifetime. What makes that WORSE is that the Sox did not win 6 of 7 division titles in the late 90s and early 00's. They did not make it to the World Series. They did not make it to game 7's like the Indians did. So to me, that makes it worse, personally. He also mentions how the White Sox don't get love from anyone like the Cubs...PERHAPS ONE OF THE REASONS IS BECAUSE OF ARTICLES LIKE YOURS? And if I am understanding him correctly, he mentions how the Sox are a "tough" team to root for because of Hawk and because "manager 'Ozzie Guillen looks like he needs to take a deep breath.'"? How does that make them "tough" to root for? Hawk is passionate about his team - that is something baseball is MISSING...Hawk should not be ripped for being passionate about the team he is broadcasting for. And if Ozzie always looks like he needs to take a deep breath, he must not watch much baseball, because from what I can, Ozzie is a real laid back manager who likes to have fun and talk a lot, and he rarely argues at all - only when he feels necessary. He then twists his words beautifully and manages to try and cover his ass. Of course he was not saying that Sox fans are the worst in the world. He is saying the TEAM is the worst TEAM to root for. Duh. This guy is still clueless. I hope he likes the Indians way the f*** down in the standings, and I hope he'll enjoy seeing the Indians two biggest rivals both in the playoffs.

QUOTE(WhiteSox311 @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:48 AM) ya because you were gonna do something about it huh I almost hate to ask this, because I know what I am going to get, but whatever... Why are you always such an asshole? Seriously. Soxn never said he was going to...he was just commenting on how Bechtel went from being very assertive to being very passive in the blink of an eye. He proved he is bark than bite.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Dotel was the best deadline closer last season, right? Am I missing someone? Who did Oakland give up? Teahan? Who else...? I know Teahan is a good prospect, but he certainly isn't a top prospect. They didn't have to give up their Brian Anderson (Nick Swisher) for Dotel, yet we should give up Anderson to get Wagner? And I realize that Wagner is better than Dotel, don't get me wrong. But I don't see the need in giving up Anderson/Sweeney/McCarthy... Completely different in my mind. Dotel was pitching awful in Houston, and was suffering from LaTroy Hawkins syndrome - that is, having a ton of success as a setup man, but not being able to close. He is also not near the pitcher Wagner is, all things considered. In my mind, there is no doubt in my mind you make this trade. Every year there are Reggie Sanders/Jose Cruz types available that are decent stopgaps for prospects if needed, and the Sox have Sweeney and Young that could move up and help by 07, when 1 of them would probably be needed. Also consider that guys like Spidale and Owens could start ripping s*** up and become decent players as well. And of course, if Wagner did in fact put the Sox over the top and they won the series, the payroll goes up, so there is not much stopping them from getting a top FA if needed. You then consider that a rotation of Buehrle-Garcia-Duque-Garland in the playoffs is very solid, and a pen of Wagner-Hermanson-Marte-Shingo-Politte-Contreras along with Cotts and Vizcaino if you need them. The opponent will be lucky to score a 3 runs a game, and in a postseason where pitching will not be the strongest and hitting will likely be abundant, you should try and make your pitching staff as strong as you can in order to shut down all the hitting you will face. IMO, if the Sox played similarly to how they are now, and they added Wagner at the trading deadline, they are looking sickly good. I'd almost want to say that they could be a World Series favorite. Another thing to take into consideration is that Dye probably will not start once Frank gets healthy. I'd imagine Everett-Pods-Rowand will be about the everyday OF when Frank gets back.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 10, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) Considering we have two good OF prospects in Anderson and Sweeney... Garcia, no question. I'd say more than just 2 good OF prospects. We have two top 10 OF prospects at this point, plus you have guys like Chris Young, who could very well be a solid MLBer at some point, along with Jerry Owens who is a project at this point, among others. I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I know the minor leagues like the back of my hand, but I do know that we are deepest in the OF. Making the loss of Anthony Webster 2 years ago, who was at one time looked at as a real solid project prospect, seem like nothing, considering Carl nearly helped take the Sox to a division win

What would Ordonez have meant to the Tigers
witesoxfan replied to southsideirish71's topic in The Diamond Club
f***in Boras is a genius. Maggs is essentially guaranteed $75 mill now. He can work himself healthy for years 4 and 5, or whichever years it was that guarantee the options for 06 and 07, and he can make himself $105 mill for playing 2 seasons if he wants. You see one of the reasons the Sox do not mess with Boras. Not many Boras clients produce until their contract year, or so it seems, and even when they don't produce then, he still gets them hella good deals(Millwood making $7 mill this year, Lowe getting 4-years, $36 mill, Maggs getting 5-years, $75 mill) I want to know how the f*** he does it. -
LaTroy doesn't need a change of scenery. He needs the number of a good psychiatrist.

It is hard for me to even remember how devastated I was to lose Mo...but I remember the feelings of that day. It was excitement initially, considering the Sox had just beaten the Cubs IIRC, and then seeing how the Sox traded for FG, the excitement grew for 1 second, and then a sadness set in. Losing Mo hurt like a son of a b****. One of my favorite players on the Sox, just because he gave 100% and he felt like one of the kids, a home grown product turning into a solid MLB player before our eyes, traded and gone just like that. It makes you realize that MLB is a business, and the growing attached to players is a hard thing to do, because in the blink of an eye, they can be gone. Olivo hit a homer the day he was traded too. And him being taken out in the 7th inning for Burke didn't seem like much at the time, but it made a ton of sense in hindsight. That being said, if we still had Mo, we would be looking a hell of a lot worse right now. So ya, it was a good trade.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 9, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) I always liked Chris too. Man did he have a hell of a rookie year. Hit for the cycle with the Sox during his career as well. Plus he played an awesome center field. Its too bad his offense went downhill after his rookie year. I wonder if DJ said anything about him. I remember the two bonded in 99 (Chris' rookie year and I think it was DJs final season). Singleton hit for the cycle on my birthday...I do remember that.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 9, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Jim bowden should win gm of the year... vinny castilla and all. Cristian Guzman, and his awesome OBP, was stolen for only $4 mill a year. What a steal

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 9, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) I think he's overrated because he is considered by many to be the best gm in baseball which just isn't true. He's a very good gm but unfortunately he gets overrated due to hype that is beond his control. Just curious, do you feel Beane is the best GM in baseball, but you feel he is not like a god who can do no wrong, which is what some of the media portray him to be, or do you not feel he is the best GM in baseball? And if the latter, who do you feel is the best? Personally, I do feel he is the best GM in baseball...doing what he has done, and doing what the A's will do this year, is pretty incredible with such a tiny payroll. There are arguments out there for better GMs, but there are not many.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 9, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) The scary thing is, they are that good. For once this year I'm actually not worried about the sox beating themselves like they have in years past but I am worried about the twins beating us. That being said I still think the sox are the superior team and will win the division but I guarantee anyone that Minny isn't going anywhere. I would also be willing to put money on the wild card coming out of the central this year, I've said this before I really think the two best teams in the al might be in the central this ear. The two best teams are in the AL Central, especially if the Sox offense can kick it in the ass and actually get going. Both have very solid rotations(Radke-Johan-Silva-Lohse-Mays and Buehrle-Garcia-Contreras-Duque-Garland in the order they started games to open the season), both have very solid, deep pens, and both have solid offenses when they are actually hitting...at the very least, 1-9 on both teams are decent hitters. As of right now, I'd say the Sox have a slight advantage in the rotation, while the Twins have a better pen along with a better lineup. Of course, Billy Wagner...
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) The yanks have put themselves in one hell of a hole already, doesn't mean they can't get out of it but with their starting pitching it's going to be tough to run off long winning streaks. Balti's for a real, they're a pretty solid team, that being said down the stretch they're going to faulter a bit because of their lack of depth in their rotation, the twins are a much better team then balti imo. The more and more I see these teams play, the more I think the wild card is coming out of the central this year. There are going to be pitchers available around the deadline, like there are every year. If Baltimore needs another pitcher, I'm sure they'll look to make the move.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 9, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) What a crock of crap! Who're they crapping? MIN SLG% #1 in the ALC MIN AVG (#3 in MLB, #1 in the ALC) MIN RBI ( #6 in MLB, #1 in the ALC) MIN R ( #7 in MLB, #1 in the ALC) MIN RON (#1 in MLB, #1 in the ALC (921 OPS)) Someone want to tell me the last time that was the case? MIN ERA (#4(3.43) in MLB, #2 in the ALC - Sox (3.03)) They are playing well above expectations hitting & pitching wise. Even their team ERA is 1/2 a run lower than 2004 (4.03). I think they are just so pissed that the White Sox are out-performing them pitching & defense wise that they have to convince themselves they can improve. There is no way they can continue to perform with runners on like that. That's got to come down. We won't lead every game of the season, and we won't continue to win seemingly every close game we have either. Their team ERA will be lower this year than last. Johan is healthy for the full year, not just 4 months of the year, Joe Mays is better than Terry Mulholland, Balfour and Crain have another year under their belts, and add that to Nathan, Romero, and Rincon(assuming he comes back at 95-97 like he was when using roids), Radke is Radke...I do look for their ERA to be lower, like I said. And their lineup is for real. That middle - Mauer, Morneau, Hunter, and Jones - is very, very scary. Add to that Stewart and Ford at the top, and they have one of the better offenses in the AL, all for around $20-25 mill...so basically ARod. They will not go away, and they could be a 95-100 win team.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) That is the mentality they have to have though. If they start to think the White Sox are a better team than they are, the season is over. You aren't going to beat a team who you have conceeded superiority to. I don't expect the Twins to change their tune until/if they are eliminated. I don't count on the Twins being eliminated from playoff contention. I personally figure that the Wild Card will come out of the AL Central this year.
