  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) Good read http://regressing.deadspin.com/is-javier-b...0201369/+kylenw QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) Neat little article on Baez and his swing. http://regressing.deadspin.com/is-javier-b...0201369/+kylenw boomshakalaka
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 12:11 PM) Pretty pumped for the Bills-Cardinals superbowl this year. I think that's a game the Bills can win, but getting by the Bengals is going to be a bit more difficult.
  3. The only logical conclusion we can draw from two weeks of games is that the Bills are the best team in the NFL.
  4. QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) I thought this was interesting from today's Keith Law chat: Isn't Greg Walker still there? Yes, Greg Walker is the hitting coach and Scott Fletcher the assistant hitting coach.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Sadly, it would explain a lot, and be on the perfect timeline. I don't think so. There was no decrease in size or power. He never had quick bat speed to begin with, so once his body started slowing down, his bat speed did too, which makes the decrease in average more easily understandable. Plus, with his drop off in offense came a drop off in offense around the entire major leagues.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) I am kind of afraid to know what you are doing to your furniture. I am forgering them into weapnos.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) Lame. I was planning an early Friday night drinking on my couch. Now I'm going to have to go OUT to drink. Well that's a pretty piss poor attitude to have towards drinknig for yourself. Do something fun instead! Activities include: -Assemlbing furniture -Disassempling furntiture to re-purpose pieces of furniture for other uses -Sit in lawn and drink in silence. When people speak to you, do not speak back. Just stare at them. -Alternatively, you can tell them to get the f*** off your lawn. -Alternatively to that, you can offer them a beer and make a friend. Unless the person is 12, in which case do not offer them a beer. -Play fetch with yourself. Throw a tennis ball, go and get it, and then when you fetch it, pat yourself on the head and say "WHO'S A GOOD BOY?" and treat yourself to a drink -Set up mannequins dressed like clowns all over your living spaces and then dress like one yourself and scare anybody that comes in. Drink while setting up the clowns. -Watch other stuff on TV These are just a few different ideas. Come up with your own too!
  8. Neat little article on Baez and his swing. http://regressing.deadspin.com/is-javier-b...0201369/+kylenw
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 10:58 AM) Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 16m Davis says he used Adderall without getting exemption, like he has in the past. If true, much different than steroid use. Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 26m Chris Davis said he had exemption in past to use Adderall but not this year where he failed two drug tests for amphetamines Well that was awfully stupid. At least he fessed up and admitted it.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) 70 power Not an "advanced" hit tool Strong arm Questions about his glove High risk, high reward QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 12, 2014 -> 10:30 AM) Oh yeah for sure. I wasn't disagreeing with you. Just came off that way. It also sounds like Giancarlo Stanton and Yoenis Cespedes (both probably an 80 power, but still). It's best to wait until the showcase and to see what the rest of the scouts think.
  11. I think Dunn will be done with baseball when he retires and won't come back. I'm just not sure there's much interest from his side to get into a front office position with his other interests outside the game.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) I'd be shocked if they didnt add 2 arms to the pen. SHOCKED. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) IMO, I believe we can contend with a better pen, one good arm in the rotation and maybe one solid bat (not middle of the order). This is exactly what I said I figured they'd (try to) add in another thread, while also trying to dump Danks onto someone.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) Do you really think Renteria wouldn't want Bryant up getting comfortable at the major league level and determining where here his ultimate position should be defensively? Of course, every pitching coach, hitting coach and manager's going to want the best players up with the major league team....but business is always going to come ahead of all other priorities. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) I would be perfectly happy not to even have a Cubs' thread. This is a White Sox site, isn't it? Why do we need it?
  14. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) ^My last post was confusing, but my point is this: We need 2 lefties in the pen, 5 pitchers in the rotation, and a long man no matter what. Danks is getting $14.25M no matter what, we can't do anything about that. Right now we're looking at Surkamp/Snodgress/garbage as that second lefty, and if we want to upgrade that it'll at least cost $1-2M on the open market. JUST as a specialist. Right now Carroll/Rienzo/garbage is probably the long man. Danks is in the rotation. At minimum, we're talking about 3 roster spots to fill at a combined pricetag of $15.25M or so after minimums go to in-house options. If we want to upgrade over the second lefty we're looking at something more like $16.25-17.25M for those same three spots. Move Danks to the pen, have him be BOTH the second lefty AND the long man, while putting Rodon in the rotation. This costs 2 roster spots rather than 3, it costs $14.75M which is cheaper, and we'd likely be upgrading all three of those roles (Danks > Carroll/Surkamp/Garbage & Rodon > Danks). This is actually an interesting idea in theory and I like it if they can't find a taker for Danks. I think they will work tirelessly to trade Danks while taking on as little as possible this offseason, but he's virtually valueless at this point and in fact holding negative value. If they are unable to do so, I think they would defer to the veteran out of Spring Training because Rodon is "going to need some seasoning" where he'll make 3-5 starts, ensure his arm is stretched out, and Danks will be given a short audition. If/when Danks fails, they could easily move him into the bullpen in that exact role and insert Rodon into the rotation.
  15. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) Hey as long as I get to be the boy in that scenario I'm cool with it. The only thing I'll miss about Dunn is the.... uhh...... hmmmm.,..... uh,..... wait. lemme think..... uhhhhh.... ...hmmm.... Yeah I guess I'm stumped. My favorite is all the homers. He did hit quite a few of them. If you just remember those, and convenienty forget the sheer number of times he struck out, it's all good.
  16. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) Anyway,..... back to the A's stuff, I really hope they are able to advance in the playoffs. Wite & I will root for them together, for very differnent reasons obviously. I wouldn't say very different. I will just also root for them due to the Adam Dunn factor.
  17. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) You are so cruel to me I can't even call you a dick. You're worst than dick. You are the empty flatugence existing in the wake of the dick's passing, wishing you had the resilence to sputter on your way out, but instead. stretched to your utmost liimits, you only can go silently, filling the room up with yoiur stink. You should be nicer to me wite. Also Nolan Sandobrn probably isn't very good. You go from touching 99 in college to touching 94 in the pen in the minros, I think Bassitt is probably best case given the saupposed secondary stuff - and not that I am complaining either, I'd take a Bassitt type for Dunn no question. I think this is one of those cases where a boy is picking on a girl in elementary school because he likes her, and he's not willing to admit it because that's not the cool thing to do but then he actually hurts her and he's deeply upset and then when people make fun of him for that he's all "I'M NOT CRYING, I JUST...I JUST...I DON'T KNOW!" Except in this scenario, you are the boy and Adam Dunn is the girl and now that the girl has moved away you miss her and long for her throughout the cold nights of the winter, longing for her intimate touch and to embrace her, knowing you missed your opportunity to do so when she left.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) Scott Merkin reporting that Ravelo will be playing winter ball instead of AFL. Still no word WHY yet, but there it is. Could be something simple, like a winter team reached out to Ravelo and he asked the Sox to play winter ball instead of the AFL instead of doing both (which would be a lot of baseball for anybody after you've just finished up a long season) and the Sox obliged.
  19. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) Adam Dunn  This was how I read this post. Also, Nolan Sanburn is still a pretty damn good return for what Dunn was.
  20. I am just assuming you are cheering for Oakland the hardest because you want to see Adam Dunn go out on top.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) Absolutely ridiculous. As it is, maybe if he had hit better than 220, he'd have been in the playoffs in 2012 No
  22. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) I can totally see the Sox taking Dez Cameron just because he's the son of Mike. And then trading him 6 years later for Konerko's kid who is the 1B for the Sox for 15 years. Yeah yeah
  23. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) I hope to one day raise unicorns as meat animals. Probably not happening either. Also, just because
  24. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) I hope to one day raise unicorns as meat animals. Probably not happening either. The possibility has to exist. Michael Taylor does exist. He is a human entity currently playing baseball for the Chicago White Sox baseball organization. Unicorns do not exist except in fictional fantasy and video games.
  25. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) I want all the young players and core pieces to do well, and I want Danks to do as well as possible so we can maybe get some money back there. Other than that stuff I hope we suck balls. Perfect game for us: -One of our starters goes 7, pitches great. All of our core hitters get on base or hit meaningless home runs with no one on. Every time there are RISP someone like Michael Taylor comes up and K's or GIDP. Then those couple relievers who could be part of our future pitch well in relief, and if the game is pretty close or we're ahead, someone like Maikel Cleto or Scott Carroll coughs up like 9 runs in 0.2 IP just to make sure we're at a good margin. Under no circumstances would I want to help Dunn. And there's nothing we can do anyway, he will singlehandedly take the A's out of the playoff picture. Which IMO is unfortunate because I wanted the A's to win this year, and even with Dunn I'd rather see the A's come out of the AL than any other team besides maybe Toronto (who are also fading). Actually I'd love to see them win it all, after all the moves Beane made to try to win, and after all the s*** those guys have gone through even after helping evolve the game, I'd love to see them come out on top. Unfortunately though Dunn is a gigantic turd helping to weight that thing down. I actually hope Michael Taylor does really well. Not just to spite you, but because I would not mind him on the team next year. He hits the ball really, really hard.
