QUOTE(CubKilla @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) No. But rapping about b****es, clothes, money, and cars will when, as long as when you're pulled over by the po-po, you're driving with a suspended DL in your FORD TAURUS like DMX was a few years back. Earl's mah boy, why yoo be dissin' him? I think I know why he goes by DMX too...you don't get much street cred being named Earl.

This place is like incredible. I don't get around the internet as much as some do, but this place just seems like a great overall internet community. However, when only half of your posts are in the forum this message board was basically designed around(the other half made by SS2k ), that tells you a lot about how much actual discussion of everything else other then White Sox goes on here. This place has really evolved from a message board into an online community...and I am quite proud to be apart of it. This seems like that little diner on the corner where you talk about anything and everything...except that is holds around 1500 people

I think the overwhelming amount of catchers they brought in with 2 signed to 7 digit contracts speaks for itself...probably something about how they do not want 1 of those 2. Minnesota seemed to prove it best last year...you do NOT need a catcher who hits .220 to win. Blanco hit like .207 last year, playing 100 or so games, and they won the division running away. However, if the catcher is not producing at the plate, like Blanco didn't, he has to be very solid defensively, both with the glove and his arm, along with calling a decent game(and his CERA of 4.25, while not great, is pretty solid...considering Davis's last year was 5.21 overall(and 5.15 with us)). That's what I think they are looking at. I think that's obvious. Now, whether they go that route by signing Widger and Burke to minor league deals and having Davis and AJP be the combo, or have it be Davis-AJP-Burke at the MLB level and Widger in AAA, or have one of them traded...I am unsure at this point. Probably where the results come from. I would watch out for LA...Ross-Mayne, or whatever they have, is not good, period. I could see Davis ending up in LA for a high ceiling type prospect...similar to the prospect they gave up in the Milton Bradley trade last year, though perhaps not nearly that good.

QUOTE(Confederate_48 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) Just to add on to Palehosefans post here is the rest of that small summary. I've been coming to private workouts for decades, but this is the first time I can remember a player receiving a standing ovation from his audience. He was lights out. Smith threw for 45 minutes, and in that time, only one ball wasn't catchable, and that was at the end of the session when Savoy's tongue was hanging out after being run all over the field. Larry Kennan, now the head of the NFL coaches association, ran the workout. Smith was previously thought of as a shotgun quarterback because of Utah's offense, but Smith and Kennan mapped out a great scripted workout that saw Smith make all the throws -- three-step drops, five-step drops, play-action passes, deep passes, crossing routes, roll-out passes and, of course, the deep routes. In fact, Smith threw 62 yards to a receiver standing on the goal line, and the pass was perfect. They don't call this "Money Week" for nothing, and I am sure that Smith feels like he helped himself get into position to be the first quarterback taken, and possibly the first player taken, in April's draft. Which is why I chose Smith over Rodgers.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) I think Pablo Ozuna will be able to handle utility infielder. We need a backup 3B now. Pablo Ozuna can play 3B. We would have no need for a backup 3Bman with him on the roster...but for insurance, we'll probably have Jamie Burke too. Also...the day the Pirates make the previously mentioned trade will be the day I get lucky with Lisa Dergan.

White Sox Player Will Be The First To Go?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Changed my mind. I just read an article in Fox Sports that leads me to believe the first to go will be Ben Davis. They look at the fact that the majority of AB for JB in CL play have come at C. Trying him out at 1st & 3rd has more to do with targeting him as a strong RH bat off the bench then planning to use him as UCIF. They look at his team leading BA in CL play as a strong sign he's all but earned a spot on the 25 man roster. Too...many...abreviations... -
Billy Koch Released by Jays

I would venture to guess that even if his MRI shows nothing, that surgery couldn't hurt him. -
Funniest mock draft in NFL history

QUOTE(T R U @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Thomas Davis is the best S in the draft just to correct you there wite Yeah, I had seen him not fall...I thought he had run like a 4.65 40, which really dropped his stock...but yeah, I was pretty much wrong on that one. -

I hate to bump this again...LOL...but we need teams quite badly. There are still like 8 openings left, and the draft is 2 days from now. Even if you can't make the draft, I would say to join...either prerank your players, or hope to get lucky. If you are even slightly interested in joining, but are confused about something or just need something cleared up, just get on AIM or PM me, and I can try to explain things in more detail. Thanks again -
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Really? I've never heard this. Where'd ya hear this from wite? I thought I remembered seeing a thread about it a while back ago As Jabroni said, there is nothing guaranteed, but it has been mentioned before. I'll see if I can dig it up, or dig anything up on it. Also...as qwerty said, Cotts is not guaranteed a spot on the roster. I personally would like Cotts down in AAA starting, but that is not my decision to make.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) Agreed, I think Ozuna has already earned his roster spot. I'm not so sure about Kevin Walker. He has looked good so far but there's just no room for him in the bullpen unless we carry 12 pitchers. These guys are pretty much guaranteed spots... Cotts Hermanson Marte Politte Shingo Vizcaino Pretty sure it has been said they will carry 12 pitchers

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) His slight obp upgrade and does not clog the bases i believe. That makes all the difference in the world of course ...or not

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) He's not great but he's far from worthless. Inferring that any player fighting for playing time on a 90-loss team sucks is simply retarded. I don't think he's inferring that he sucks. I think he is inferring that he is not an upgrade. So what is the point of adding him(Mackowiak) if it's not an upgrade?
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) By the way, Bobby Hill is fighting for playing time on the Pirates as well but I guess he must suck too. :rolly .266/.353/.339 - Bobby Hill .262/.343/.323 - Willie Harris Basically, if you think Willie sucks, you think Bobby Hill sucks too
-
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) Dunn on the reds can't hit for average but as long as hes hitting 40 plus home runs hes gonna be starting. Nothing wrong with a .266 average, especially when you're getting on at a .388 clip. And a career average of .249 is pretty bad...but his career OBP of .382 is something to write home about. Career OPS of .893 is fairly solid too. Borchard, on the other hand, only had an OBP-AVG was only 75(meaning his .249 OBP is only 75 points higher then .174 average)...which isn't nearly good enough for a .170 hitter to play in the majors.

White Sox Player Will Be The First To Go?
witesoxfan replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I voted Willie...because I don't see any way he's going to make this team out of ST. Borchard's value is probably at an all-time low right now...coming off 2 months in a season where he was starting pretty much everyday and he hit in the .170s(I think...maybe it was .160s). Adkins value is probably decent right now...coming off his first year, he has good stuff and only slowed down last year when he started to be put in there everyday. Give him another year in the majors, and I could see an ERA anywhere from 3.50-4.50 and a WHIP anywhere from 1.25-1.40...which are good enough for a middle relief guy who is cheap as hell. I actually do not want to see him go anywhere, unless it is in a package for a much better player(obviously, he wouldn't be the focal point of the trade, but as an extra piece, why not?) Diaz's value is probably pretty low too I would guess...showing no signs of doing anything in the majors at all thus far...I would guess you'd be lucky to get a decent prospect for him. Burke has no value at all. As someone pointed out, he had to clear waivers to be knocked off the 40-man...so why would any team want to give up a player to get him? Willie's I would guess is higher then a lot of people think. Coming off a .260/.340 season(including .280/.360 against RHP), his value is decent for a team that needs a 2Bman, or if they are very desperate, a CFer. Therefore, I went with the person whose value is highest, and who we have virtually no spot for...that person being Willie. -
When it comes to flip-flopping, Mariotti makes John Kerry look like Anthrax on the subject of KW. But he is right here. He is posing a rhetorical question of sorts to Big Mac and Samme, and it doesn't even get you thinking, because the sad truth is you already know the answer to the question. How sad is it that the season that ressurected baseball to the great game it is, 1998, was due to cheating? It will be a swift kick to the groin of the MLB.

Mock Draft Contest Starts Next Week
witesoxfan replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I would say doing that along with this would work out. Seeing the consensus pick by Soxtalk is fun(except for Harris going to the Bills...WTFLOLZ ) The polls really aren't a contest...they are more just for fun. However, this would be an actual contest...seeing who has the brains to run a mock draft website(sorta). -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Bruce levine also has a very good track record. Omar Vizquel = White Sox ...or no
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) If he stayed healthy he would have broken the record for most bunt hits in a season. I knew it was something like that. So yeah, to say he doesn't use his speed is pretty crazy. He was just banged up pretty good.
