  1. IIRC, didn't Funny Cide have like the worst starting position you can have? And didn't he stumble a little bit in the middle of the race? And didn't he end up getting Show(I think that's 3rd place) even after that?
  2. He would have to be big as hell with the fans, because with this contract, JR is going to need help paying for it. Jason Giambi 1B NYY Signed Dec 2001 - 7 years/$120M 2002: $8.0M (+$17.0M signing bonus paid over 6 years) 2003: $9.0M 2004: $10.0M 2005: $11.0M 2006: $18.0M 2007: $21.0M 2008: $21.0M 2009: Team option $22.0M or $5.0M buyout I could handle the $10 mill this year or the $11 mill next year...but the $18 mill in 06, and $21 in 07 and 08 would be a huge burden on the Sox unless they get rid of him/have the Yankees take on some of it/hope it pays itself in the end with all the attention the move gets
  3. You do? Well that explains a lot! LMAO, just f***ing around
  4. I'll add on. The past 14 times the Twins have played the Yanks in the regular season, the Twins have gone 0-14 in those games, and in the Twins last 18 games against the Yanks, they have gone 1-17 against them. 1-17. You wanna talk about f***ing pathetic
  5. The only thing Jose has going for him is his LH power. That's the only reason he is in the lineup IMO. BTW, the reason Maggs and Frank were switched was because Frank thought it would be best for the team. In the 3 spot last year, Frank would draw his walk, and then quite a bit after that Maggs would hit a hard grounder to the SS, 3Bman, or 2Bman, and the opposition got two outs faster then hell. I liked the switch going into the year, but just because you switch like that does not mean you can't switch them now and then to shake up the lineup.

    Sox lose

Blow the whole f***ing thing up before it's too late. This team looks like s*** right now. They made Seth Greisinger look like Bob Gibson
  7. That's not a Jerry Manuel thing. This team seriously needs to be shaken up. They are very easy to get out right now.
  8. You want Kelly Dransfelt over Willie Harris? Kelly Dransfelt makes Willie Harris look like f***ing Lou Brock. Harris is staying here, and you having a personal grudge against him will not do anything about him staying or going(unless you are KW, and I know for a fact you are not KW). Kelly Dransfelt is not a very good player. There is a reason he was sent down to the minors.
  9. I sense someone has a bad sense of humor. To make it ever clearer, Brando was making a crack at a joke(and it wasn't a bad attempt either, like I have made several times).
  10. This is probably true. Regardless, Giambi is due like $18 mill in a couple years, and $21 mill about a year or two after that. Unless New York wants to take on about $10 mill of that(which they very well could), I don't see how this deal favors the Sox in the long run.
  11. IIRC, Giambi signed with the Yankees because they provided him with a no-trade clause, and Oakland did not. I'm sure he will shoot down any trade involving him
  12. They could give a s***. It's US that should be worried about something like that. We don't want to give KC something that will bite us in the ass 4 years down the road.
  13. It was close. Probably a ball, but really way too close to tell either way and way too close to let go. Willie should have probably swung.
  14. If there was any pitcher used in last nights game overworked(by either team), it is Juan Rincon. He pitched in his 19th game last night, and the Twins have played 34 games. He didn't look to overworked to me. It looked like he was on top of his game, blowing Lee and Konerko away on 6 pitches.
  15. They've played the Angels, and they're only the best team in the majors
  16. His problem yesterday was control. Those 2 walks killed him. Whether or not he was getting squeezed...personally, I didn't think the calls were too bad...however, Joe Nathan should not have gotten that call on the 3-2 pitch to Harris. The thing I hate most about baseball when it happens is inconsistent umping. If you are going to give a pitch 6-inches outside to one pitcher, you have to give that call to every pitcher, with no exceptions.
  17. Zito's gone 24-5 before and won a Cy Young. Carlos Lee has hit 30 homers in a season ONCE, driven in 100 or more runs ONCE, has hit over .300 ONCE, and has NEVER had an OPS of .850. Those are not numbers a guy making $7.5 mill a year puts up. He should be putting up much better numbers. Konerko has had ONE 30 homer season, ONE season where he hit above .300(though he had two where he hit .290), ONE season where he drove in 100 runs(though he's driven in 90 two other times) and has had an OPS of .850 ONCE in his career, and he was f***ing awful last year. Not exactly numbers a guy making about $7.5 mill should put up. Comparing Zito to Lee and Konerko is like comparing apples to oranges.
  18. For some reason, Beltran scares the hell out of me. I think it's because of the fact that Boras is his agent. Whether that means we won't be able to resign him or that he may just shut it down after he gets his payday(ala CJ), or both. Personally, I'd much rather see Delgado on the South Side then Beltran, but Beltran fits "Ozzie-ball" better then Delgado does. It'd be a tough-ass call either way. Say, for instance, that we do make the Lee for Garcia deal. Who says that we then can't trade Konerko and Garcia and a good prospect or two for Delgado(Konerko and Garcia's only purposes are to take up some of the salary...the Jays want the prospects). At that point, we are $4 mill over our "cap", which is where Maggs comes in...we trade him to say San Francisco for Jason Schmidt and Marquis Grisson. Schmidt and Grissom together make roughly $10.5 mill...so we are back at where we need to be financially. The rotation is damn solid - Schmidt, Buehrle, Loaiza, Garland, and Scho - and the pen hasn't taken a hit(though we need some bullpen depth...with the pen we have now, we will most likely be smoked in the playoffs). The lineup has been changed quite a bit though... Harris - CF Uribe - 2B Delgado - 1B Thomas - DH Valentin - SS Grissom - RF Reed - LF Crede - 3B Olivo - C Now obviously that lineup isn't a set in stone thing, as several players could be switched around and it would still work. That's one of the benefits of that lineup is the versatility of it and how you can switch it up almost any way you like(while using a little common sense and reasoning) and it could work. Reed could bat 2nd or 5th as well as 6th, Delgado and Thomas could be switched around, Uribe could bat 5th, 6th, or 7th, Grissom could bat 2nd, 5th, or 7th, Valentin could bat 2nd, 6th, or 7th...I think you get the picture. Hell, Willie could bat in several different spots as well. Personally, I like that lineup a hell of a lot more then the one we have now, and I'm sure Ozzie would too(taking Konerko out automatically makes the lineup faster, but you get Grissom who, while advanced in age, can still steal a few bases, and Reed will probably steal more bases then Lee will, and you have both Harris and Uribe in the lineup). It's not nearly as dependant on the homer as our current lineup is, and it can play small ball if necessary. And, assuming my math is correct, we are right around $65 mill with the payroll. Either way, if we could get either Beltran or Delgado, I would be pretty damn happy.
  19. Hey I haven't done it yet...better early then late. Big game for Elo...shut the f***ing door and kick the Twinks ass. Show them who wears the pants around these parts.
  20. Scho pitched well. That's the only positive thing from the game. Another bit of good news...tomorrow is a new day. Get em tomorrow Sox.
  21. It's a lot easier to perform at the major league level with a 94-96 MPH fastball(or faster) then it is with an 88-90 MPH fastball. Much easier to setup other pitches, especially if you have mediocre secondary pitches. With 94-96 heat, while occasionaly touching 97 or 98, a small breaking ball can get hitters to buckle. A weak changeup can look great. A mediocre slider can be devastating. Once that fastball drops a couple MPH, you can sit back on it just a little more, and the curveball is somehow hung more and hit more then before while not being thrown any differently. The changeup looks like BP to the hitter and you wonder why your neck hurts the next day, when you didn't do anything to your neck the day before. And the slider gets the s*** hit out of it. Mike Mussina has been a great pitcher throughout his career because he can hit 92-94 on the gun and can even touch 95 now and then. That fastball sets up his change and his nasty knucklecurve. This year, his fastball's velocity has been down just a bit...around 86-88...and his numbers have been less then stellar. What is Randy Johnson if, instead of throwing 95-98, he starts throwing 90-92? Quite simply, he's toast. The hitters can sit back on that slider and see it break down and away, and they take it instead of swing. What is Curt Schilling without his heat? What is Kerry Wood without his heat? What is Mark Prior without his heat? What is Josh Beckett without his heat? What is Bartolo Colon without his heat? Need I continue? I am NOT saying you need to throw it hard to be effective...Jamie Moyer won 21 games last year as a 41 year old and he can't throw it any harder then 85 MPH. Greg Maddux has won 15 or more games each of the past 15 years, and his fastball is topping out at about 86 or 87 nowadays. Mark Buehrle gets up to 90 or 92 on a damn good day(or a damn bad day...sometimes, having that lack of velocity is all it takes to fool the hitters). I'm just saying that velocity helps a hell of a lot more then not having it does.
  22. Damaso Marte's opening day appearance was WORSE then a Danny Wright appearance. Atleast Danny Wright can get through an inning without giving up 2 homers and 6 runs. Why didn't someone make a post saying "MARTE SUCKS" after that? You CANNOT judge a pitcher by 5 innings, especially when it was one bad inning that killed him in the end. If he was getting hit hard all day and was just getting lucky by having those hits be right at someone, then it is understandable. From what I could tell, that was not the case. Give it atleast 3 starts before you get a true feeling about him.
  23. Damn, you got on twice...I just noticed that. Bastard, you are one ahead of me :finger
