White Sox = no established closer right now Yanks, Cards, BoSox = All have established closers I think you can blame Manuel for that. When we had one (Koch), all most of you did was b**** about how he sucks and you wanted him out of there. Make up your mind. JM has to work with the deck that he has, and if we constantly have a pitcher who is in a slump, it's hard for him to have any kind of consistency in using the bullpen. Maybe blame KW for not addressing this issue at the trade deadline. A guy like Scott Williamson was available. I'm for Flash being the full-time closer. I think that's the way it should be(thoguh we very well could have Marte close full-time now with Schow and Wunsch in the pen). I just wasn't happy that Manuel had him throw 44 pitches on Monday, and I wasn't happy about how he had him throw today after throwing 44 pitches on Monday. That's too many pitches for a guy that is not stretched out.

I don't like it. I think the only guy that has pitched on 3-days rest in the group is Colon. Buehrle, Garland, and Loaiza have no idea what it is like. Let's just kind of have an audition for next year. Whoever wants a spot in the rotation for next year would you please step forward. We got 4 starts left for the #5 spot, that means we can try 4 different pitchers in the #5 spot. Not like it really matters who our #5 is for 4 starts. I figure we can give Diaz, West, Stewart, and Adkins a shot at it. Let's see what they are made of.

You mean, we don't need ANOTHER over paid set-up man

Colon Buehrle Loaiza but, either way, its a strong 3 That'd be my 1-2-3 too. Game 3 in a 5-game set is the most important game. In game 3, you can clinch a series, you can become 1-win a way from clinching, you can get back into the series by winning that game, or you can lose that game and be done. No other game in a 5-game set means more, except possibly game 5, and I don't consider that the most important game because that game is not going to necessarily be played. If a game 5 is involved, then that is the most important game in a 5-game set, for obvious reasons. What I like about our 1-2-3 is the fact that all of them are big games pitchers. How many big games(big games meaning almost must wins) have these guys won this year? How many times have they turned the ship around? I really like our chances if we get to the playoffs, because of these 3.

Same level, at the very least. Both big time chokers too.

I don't think you could say the first one, but that's just me. Not yet. At times, IMO, you could. When this team was during their hot streaks(the 12 games against the Cubs and Twinks and their 15 game stretch against the AL's least, minus Toronto), that team, IMO, was an ALCS/World Series caliber team. But, with the way this team has played in the past 2 months, as a whole, they are, at the very least, a playoff caliber team.

A win is a win, you're right. I'd be happier if the Sox played a full 9 innings first. If they could put 9 great innings together, instead of 8 like they did today, I would be much happier. The teams that put together 9 great innings are the teams that win in the long run. The teams that put together 8 great innings and 1 s***ty inning are the teams that you do not hear about as part of the all-time greatest teams, or even World Series teams. This team needs to be kicked in the ass. The way theya re playing, you could say they look like a sure-fire ALCS team or a sure-fire World Series team. You could also say they look like a 3rd or 4th place team with no shot in hell at even being .500. Sad thing is, you'd be right both times.

I think Jerry made the right move, going to the bullpen. He just went after the wrong pitcher. Flash threw 44 pitches on Monday. That's a bit too many for the closer. He was not as sharp today, and I assume it was mainly because of that. The most pitches Flash should ever throw in a game is 20 or 25....not 44. You don't have to be a fan of pitch counts to know when a guy is overworked, and he was overworked on Monday. He threw twice as many pitches as he should throw. In my book, that's being overworked.

It's an assumption. I personally don't think we would have gotten Colon had we had Wells and he was very successful last year with us. I personally could give a rat's ass though. We don't have him and no one says we wouldn't have gotten Colon nor does anyone say we would have gotten Colon. I'm just happy we have him right now.

I think it's fun. Kills time too
-
No, it is worth maybe $4 in the condition it is in. It is not in mint ocndition.
-
Think of it this way We keep Kip Wells and Josh Fogg, we probably don't have Colon. How's that sound to you? I'm actually somewhat glad we got rid of him, simply because we got Bartolo because of it.
-
IIRC, he holds some kind of NCAA record for homers in a season and was drafted in the 3rd round by the A's. So it's not like he has been s*** for his whole baseball career.

I wouldn't doubt it. I remember when he was with the Sox he told Carlos Castillo to hit Bernie Williams in the head. I remember I saw the game he poited to his head as Castillo was winding up I remember seeing the highlights of that. Pena had said, I assume as a cover up, that what he meant by that was to use his head and think before he throws or something.

I just hope that the team that showed up in the 12 games against the Cubs and Twinks and the 15 or so games against the DRays, Tigers, Indians, Jays, and Royals shows up and not the team we've seen in the past two nights. I think KW now sees why we could have used another stud for the pen. I would love to have Kerry Lightenberg pitching for the Sox right now. He won't though. He'd have to clear waivers, and to put it plainly, he wouldn't clear waivers. Kelvim Escobar or Mike DeJean wouldn't be bad guys to have either. The only one that have a shot at clearing is Escobar.
-
Hey hey, how about that
-
(puts Pepto Bismol down) Phew!
-
:fyou Botch I love the guy's attitude. But he blows, plain and simple. Put him on waivers, and hope someone picks him up. If no one does, try to demote him to AAA and explain to him that he is hurting the team more then he is helping it. When/if he goes down, you pat yourself on the back. You have finally gotten rid of the two biggest pieces of s*** in your bullpen, Rick White-flag and Billy Botch. You then bring up Diaz and Munoz to use out of the bullpen, and when during stretches in which you do not have to use the 5th starter, your bullpen is Gordon, Marte, Wunsch, Ginter, Schoenweis, Munoz, and Wright. That would be more lefties then righties, but IMO, that's no big deal.
-
Sounds like a good deal to me. One of those Esteban Loazia type deals. The kind of deal that won't hurt if it doesn't work out, but will reap rewards if it does. You can't lose. And like someone said....he'll do better then White-flag.
-
What about the paint chips and him falling off a horse?
-
I assume Rislov must have played in that game. If memory serves correctly, SJSU's coach went with the Spurrier deal(I think is who does it), where he'd go with one QB in the first half and another in the second half. That didn't work out well, because the QB not named Rislov always sucked. So they just used Rislov as the starter. I believe they started that after the Stanford game(where they got killed...something like 63-26 or something. It was a decent game until the second half started).
-
Who knows? We might be in 2nd or 3rd, because there is a possibility that a vetertan team like ours wouldn't respond well to a guy like him. A guy that uses tons of small ball, sac bunts, sac flies, hit behind the runner, don't try to hit a homer, etc. You will never see a Sammy Sosa-type player on a team managed by Tony Pena. Or, the team could have responded very well and we could have 60-70 wins already. It would be one or the other. However, one thing I would like to add is the fact that if we had Pena, the Royals would not have him. They would not be doing as well as they are. We could very easily be running away with the division.

Just would like to get a name out there.... Scott Rislov, starting QB at San Jose State. I saw him play football as a 5th or 6th grader....I think that was the sweetest thing I have ever seen in my life(in person, that is)....well, maybe seeing the Sox clinch the division in 2000 was sweeter, but as far as local sports goes, that was it. A friend of mine told me he could be drafted this year because the QB is a weak spot for this year's draft. I just assumed he was correct. Do you know how f***ing cool that would be to have a Pierre, SD athlete playing at the professional level? IIRC, the last player in any sport to do that was Floyd Bannister(he was born in Pierre atleast). I think some may remember him from 1983. Go SJSU, or atleast go Rislov! Also, I'd like to say that I'll probably be hoping Nebraska does some really good things this year. See, my grandpa, who was about the biggest Nebraska fan I knew, just recently did die.....it was tougher then I expected, because going to my grandparent's house just kind of had a weird feeling, because I almost expected him to come out and just see us and mingle witht he family, but I did realize he had died. It still hasn't settled in yet. Anyways, I'm probably going to be turning into a Nebraska fan atleast for this year, and I will probably become a big Nebraska fan in years to come. And for what it's worth...in my NCAA Football 2004, Syracuse is the most prestigous school to go to. Something like 3 straight national championships, 35 or 36 consecutive wins, and we've had a coach of the year winner, and one of my receivers got 2 receiver of the year awards, the Maxwell award, and the Heisman in probably the most lobsided Heisman victory in history. I also made another coach, just for the hell of it, and he got offered the Notre Dame job after the end of his half a year with La Tech, and Notre Dame's school prestige is 3 stars out of 6(meaning they have sucked in my dynasty mode). So my other job is to turn them around. Should be a lot of fun!

I am not so sure about that. If we see the team we saw against the Cubbies and Twinkies during that 12 game stretch, or atleast the attitude that team had, for the rest of the year, we will win a lot of games.
