  1. I KISSED A SQUIRREL JUST TO TRY IT but seriously you can't tell me you wouldn't hit that
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 02:12 PM) Kate Upton in her yet-to-be published biography This is one that does not fit the topic, unless you're saying Kate Upton is living a lie
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Yep. Getting on base one more time per 30 plate appearances. Over 600 plate appearances, it's 21 more times on base. That means you are looking at 21 more times that he has extended an inning, which results in pitchers getting that much more tired and the team scoring more runs. I don't want the Sox to acquire Freese, but he's a much better overall player than Conor Gillaspie.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Prince's wife sure thinks so OK, that's funny
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) YOU are not allowed to use my book for this purpose. Or any of it's 999 sequels. This is America and I do what I want. And I'll do what I want 999 more times after THAT too.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) On the contrary, my response was quite serious. I know. I said that. Your book isn't already written and famous though. It may be soon, in which case we can have this discussion again, and about 99.9% of heterosexual males will be in full agreement with you.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) Paulie is back if Hahn can deal Dunn by the winter meetings, otherwise it makes no sense for him to be back to take AB's away from Dunn in the case he is going to be dealt or given a QO next off season. They have an offer on the table for Konerko. I honestly don't believe Dunn matters in this circumstance. I don't doubt that they'll still try to deal him anyways.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Tex is trying to have an intellectual conversation about women with a bunch of horny 18-39 year old guys. You can see how that's working out. Pretty sure I'm the only "serious" response (quoted because the others are serious, just not in the vein that Tex was looking for). It's an interesting topic to think about quite frankly. It's also making me jog through the old memory trying to remember books and stories I've actually read where I had some semblance of not only sympathy or agreement, but downright attraction to the character.
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 11:43 AM) what's a book? Only the greatest thing in the history of mankind
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) If true, I agree 100%. That is about as low as you get. Yes, if true. Should have added that, but it really is a terrible, terrible thing. To some extent, I almost wonder how much of Frank's struggles in 2002 came because Royce Clayton was on the roster.
  11. I personally don't think that is funny at all and in fact think it's pretty goddamn s***ty of Avisail.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 12:15 AM) With all due respect, I love how people see NO possibility of Paulie bouncing back and yet they see the possibility for guys like Kepp, and Dunn still has his supporters, too. Paulie, who can still field the position very well, can still hit lefties. His power has been zapped but that may because of injury. I just don't get why people see Paulie as having zero chance of returning to Paulie form and give these other guys the benefit of the doubt. What if Paulie ISN'T finished? What if he comes out and goes 2-5 every game the first month with an occasional homer? Four homers a month is a 24 homer season. He's capable of that. What if I s*** bricks of gold? Konerko is 38 years old. He can hit lefties at this point. He doesn't have the power to drive the ball off of righties. He can still get a few hits. At his very best, he'd likely hit .270/.330/.420...and that's the very BEST. He's more likely to put up .250/.310/.350. That's bad.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) Yankees or Red Sox will get him, and he's suddenly the best baseball player ever and the whole steroid thing was false (Ortiz) according to ESPN and every fan. A great guy off the field. Yes, because this is exactly how people feel about Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 09:25 AM) I think the pitching and defense, while I agree is a good philosophy, is a lot easier to execute in Oaklands park than it is in the Cell. I agree because of the size of the foul ground, but I think USCF is one of the easiest parks to get away with the pitching and defense philosophy. Because of how small it is, it's easier for guys to cover "more" ground, so if you have the ability to keep the ball in the field, you can get to a lot more balls than you can in larger parks.
  15. QUOTE (TRU @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 06:00 PM) Why the f*** would anyone still want to play a playstation game? For the same reason you still want to play an NES, SNES, Genesis, or whatever game...there is still good game play and still nostalgia built in.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) Of course, most of their (A's) success is predicated on pitching/bullpen and the trade for and eventual emergence of Josh Donaldson. The White Sox simply need another version of Quentin/Donaldson (in 2008/09, Danks/Alexei/Floyd/Quentin). Easier said than done. And Abreu has to have a huge impact, like Cespedes and Puig. They simply can't afford to be wrong on that move. But that's definitely the model the White Sox should be following. Then, when they're closer to being able to compete, they can add those "glue/complementary" pieces like a CoCo Crisp, Lowrie, Vogt, etc. Yes, build your team around pitching and defense while continuing to bring in prospects. The idea is that, eventually, you will have the players at the MLB level to build around. This year Donaldson was their best player, but it's not as if the rest of their roster was chopped liver. They had a ton of good players. They are on different levels as players, but dealing Quintana for a similar package as to what the A's got for Gonzalez wouldn't be a good start. I don't think the Sox want a rebuild that drawn out though.
  17. Players in general will hit better at home, and while I doubt that he'll hit as well in Detroit as he did in Texas, I think the idea that he's somehow going to forget how to hit because he is going from Texas to Detroit is misguided. This isn't a bad deal for Texas, but it is an absolutely phenomenal deal for Detroit. You are talking about league average or better production at 2B, cutting costs, getting yourself out of a monstrosity of a contact, and allowing yourself to sign players up long term while opening a spot for your top prospect.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) I like that one better Ha. I just find the way MLB is handling this to be despicable. They really do want to make an example out of ARod, which is genuine BS, and that Selig isn't testifying makes it worse.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Dylan Axelrod was pretty similar in 2011. He put up a 0.4 WAR in 18 innings. It is really too bad when you get knocked around and give up 1.8 baserunners an inning. People think you suck, but the reality is you just aren't very lucky. So what if he is giving up a ton of hits and line drives. Oswalt has a better track record and a bit more velocity, but I really don't think this comparison is that far fetched.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) The Elmore move seems... odd. There is really only one area of position players the Sox org has some signifncant talent depth, you've got one too many infielders on the MLB team already, plus Leury Garcia, Marcus Semien and Carlos Sanchez. And guys like Anderson and Johnson in the lower minors. But we are claiming Elmore? Just as word that we were after Johnson for pitching depth indicates something, I keep thinking this also indicates something, like we are also likely to trade an infielder or two. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I think there's some smoke here.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) I agree with you 100%. It DOES sound fishy that the police kind of told her not to press charges and then they basically through the case into limbo, but the case in the first place could have been bulls***. They DID say she wasnt intoxicated, so that changes some of that stuff. Is the TPD saying that now? With all the conflicting details in the case, it's hard to figure out what the current belief is, and at least initially, it was said that she was intoxicated. I just don't see any way that this is resolved quickly.
  22. The end result is likely somewhere between those two numbers. His FIP and xFIP were ridiculously good, but it was a small time frame. Meanwhile, the ERA was absolutely atrocious. Over a full season - if he could remain healthy for a full season - I figure he'd be about a 4.25-4.75 ERA pitcher. As I said, I think it's best if the Sox just stay away from him.
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Guys with no power and no defensive ability have little chance of starting. He sounds like a poor man's Keppinger to me. don't tell Pods!
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 20, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/403252792615112704 Anybody know anything about Elmore? Looks like a future utility player with an outside chance to start. Not a lot of power, but good bat control and good eye at the plate. A little bit of speed. Had a phenomenal season in 2012 with Arizona's AAA team, but much of that was due to a .344 average. In 2400+ minor league plate appearances, he has 17 home runs. In the majors he played primarily SS, but made at least one appearance at every single position this year with the Astros.
