QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) Sanchez was bad last year so it's pretty unlikely that any team will award him an MLB roster spot. I think someone would pick him up. Quick, versatile, middle infielder with good bat control who is super young? I think he'd be gone in a second.
-
Travis D'Arnaud was one of the top rated prospects in the minors coming into the year. Given, Phegley was repeating AAA (I think for the 3rd time), but compare their numbers there and then at the majors. I think there's a bigger adjustment for catchers than people realize.

I still submit that Gronkowski sees the ball and is in the process of adjusting to it when Keuchly initially pushes him and then puts his arms around him. Ultimately, it could have ended up in offensive pass interference because Gronkowski could have easily been in a position to push off the safety. It's over, Patriots lose, and I'm happy about that.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) -Drops a large chunk of salary (potentially freeing up money for another move), even if the team has to pick up some money. or -Probably makes the team worse for 2014, insuring a better draft pick in 2015. If you are in the camp that thinks this team will suck in 2014, it makes perfect sense. On point number 1, you are likely going to have to pick up $10 million and take nothing in return. If you wait until July 31st to do that (or August 30th, neither matters), you are doing essentially the same thing but at least maintain the possibility that you can trade him and pick up a young, talented piece. You aren't trading Konerko. On number 2, Konerko is still a more talented player than Dunn. Yes, he's probably going to be a poor player, but I think the odds of Konerko putting up an .825 OPS far outweigh the odds that Dunn will do so.

FWIW, Keuchly is notorious for doing this and was called for doing this same exact thing against the Bills, which inevitably cost them the game.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) What happened to him? He got a little bit of Marvin in his life http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball-don...28127--nba.html

We'll disagree and I maintain that it's a blatant missed call.

I'd heard of people who had to memorize it, but we merely studied it. I did have to memorize Marc Antony's speech from The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) It puts off the catching disaster for another year, and allows the Sox to work for another year to find a permanent solution back there. If you do that, I wouldn't sign him until February.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 09:24 PM) Oh, and the Nets suck. I'm going to stay away from New York teams when it comes to predictions. They always disappoint. I want to say I told you so, but jesus dude, it's 10 games. Quit jumping to conclusions.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 10:13 AM) The only reason this is an issue is because a flag was originally thrown, then there was no call and they picked it up. If there isn't a flag thrown to begin with, no one outside of NE would have thought there was legit PI there, it would have been a pick and game over. Gronk wasn't catching that by a long shot, at best he would have maybe been able to break up an interception. Not catching it is not the same as uncatchable. It was a blatant missed call. And I hate the Patriots.

Guy wants to make ND town white sanctuary

He and another white supremicist were arrested on terrorizing charges. They believed they were defending themselves and their property as it was recently vandalized. http://bismarcktribune.com/news/state-and-...19bb2963f4.html That's not terrifying in the least -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) This is what happens when a man named Clete Blakeman referees games. He has kind of a cool last name. I wish that was my last name.

2013-14 off season player movement thread

QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) If the Yanks sign Brendan Ryan and Stephen Drew with Jeter on the roster, why even sign Cano? Put Stephen Drew at closer. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:37 AM) It's one or the other, absolutely. But to me that interference or holding wouldn't have changed the fact that the ball was slightly under thrown and was intercepted. If Gronk had been defended legally he's not going to catch that ball because the carolina defender was in his way. He's drifting towards the back of the endzone while the carolina guy is breaking towards the ball closer to the middle/front of the endzone. This is not the argument though. Is the ball catchable? Yes. Would Gronkowski have caught it? 99 times out of 100, no, no way. And if you look at the GIF, Gronk stops, makes a move with his upper body towards, the ball, but Keuchly is too strong and continues pushing him away.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) I don't think anybody (or at least, very few people) are OK with these kinds of encounters being fatal, but there's a difference between that and whether or not somebody should hold criminal liability for the fatality. Exactly. If I see a crackhead and a drunk duking it out at 1:30 on a Saturday, I don't say to myself "It's OK if one of them stabs/shoots the other and kills them, they are both terrible people incapable of improving their lives." And in this case, I don't even agree that you can't hold criminal liability against Zimmerman - you just can't hold murder against him.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) And George Zimmerman is a hero. Again, who has [rationally] said this? I'm not justifying what George Zimmerman did, and I'm sure as hell not saying he's a good person. He was not guilty of murder though, and a jury of his peers agreed with that. He was likely guilty of manslaughter, and had he been charged with that, he probably would have been given a pretty long jail sentence.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) That initial contact happens on every single play in the NFL these days. I agree that a second or two before the ball is intercepted the guy is interfering with him, but to call that catchable you have to completely ignore the other defender who gets in between Gronk and the ball. Jesus. So the ball is thrown, Keuchly is pushing him to the back of the endzone, and the DB runs up to intercept it. You could not see a clearer shot of how blatant of a missed call that is.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) Yes I do. They White Sox have always claimed they set their budget to break even. That every dollar that comes in, goes out. Maybe it is. You want to make money, but you can also take a loss overall and still take home and give out paychecks. I'm sure if they wanted to go nuts, they could spend up to the luxury tax for about 3-5 years, but then they can't spend anything and then what do you do? You cut the payroll to an Oakland or Cleveland like level.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) He's overstating things a bit but it is worth noting that when there are two crazy assholes and one of them has a gun, it is pretty easy to predict what will happen. If neither do, you're probably just looking at two crazy assholes who got into a fist fight. And that's assuming that Trayvon was such a person -- we don't know that I don't disagree with any of this. I just think it's wrong to portray Martin as a sweet, innocent angel in this situation. It's unfortunate, but he was a big kid who was kicking the s*** out of George Zimmerman that night.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:00 AM) Not necessarily. In 2009, when they were at their budget, they traded for an injured Jake Peavy, and then claimed Alex Rios. Just because they said they were at their proverbial break even point doesn't mean that was the case. Are you sure you understand what a budget is? Because it is not the same thing as the break even point. It's a business that needs to be sustained. If you are not making money, you are losing money. Thus, if they are one of the most profitable teams given the circumstances presented to them, they are doing something right and setting budgets so that they can make a good amount of money while spending most of it on the team. That is not a bad thing, no matter the people calling Jerry (and the remainder of the board) cheap.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) But thankfully one of them had a gun, so we know the other one must have been at fault. Who has ever said this?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) Far more than than you. And you do understand why the White Sox would never say "hey, we came in second but made a $15 million profit" don't you? Far more than you. When the Sox say "we are at our budget," then they are at their budget. Smart teams save money in case they need to go over budget. Sometimes it makes sense to go over-budget. But, in this exact instance in the 2013-14 offseason, there is absolutely no need to lose money when you can make money. Would you not agree with that idea?
