QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) I'd rather go all the way and offer them Quintana + Carlos Sanchez + Phegley for Castro, Altuve, and SS DeShields Jr/3B Rio Ruiz. That seems way off of what they would ask, and I don't know why they'd trade prospects anyways. Realistically, they see a guy who was really good at the MLB level last year, a young, slap hitting middle infielder who struggled last year, and a AAAA catcher who killed AAA pitching and was absolutely brutal at the MLB level. In that package, I think they'd be asking for some group of Semien/Johnson/Beck/Snodgress/Rienzo/M. Johnson/Hawkins/Petricka/Webb, among others. If you offered Quintana, Beck, Micah Johnson, and Petricka, then yes, you may be able to get that package.

A lot of that article tries to portray Hurd in a sympathetic light as a mere pot smoker (5-10 pounds of weed at a time is not a small amount, even if he was not dealing it to others to make a profit), but considering the conversation he was having, it's entirely possible that they removed a drug lord from the street before he became a drug lord.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) It's the 25th man on the roster spot. For the saberguys, that's generally a replacement level player anyway. A young player would be better off playing every day in Charlotte. It will tie Ventura's hands a little bit, but in the grand scheme of things, it won't cost the Sox wins. If Paulie wants to play for the Sox, it's the right thing to do. I still think he isn't coming back. I agree with everything in this post. I'm sure it's an incredibly nominal offer ($1-3 mill, something that is not going to hamstring the budget), and they'd just run with an 11 man pitching staff. It'll be primarily young guys anyways, so there will be options and what not used and guys will be swapped out when an extra arm is needed. You run with Reed, Jones, Lindstrom, Webb, Veal, and Leesman out of the bullpen and you have a swing guy in Leesman who can go multiple innings or one guy at a time. You have your two lefties. What more do you really need (other than better pitchers, of course)?

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 11:43 PM) the booing of Pierzynski didnt start until he signed with the rival (at the time) White Sox ( are the Twins/Sox still rivals? or is that on the backburner until both teams are good again?) I think the booing of him is silly (especially in recent years because there is a whole generation of Twins fans that never saw him play in a Twins uniform. Same with the hand wringin over losing David Ortiz. ), but he seemed to love it. If he signs, there will be a ticker tape parade. They're still rivals, all teams within the division are rivals to some extent. Anyways, AJ would still probably be cheered, even as a Twin, and then he'll plow over Flowers or Phegley at the plate and he'll be booed like crazy.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) I wonder if Cardenas would think differently if he was actually good at baseball. He was good. Like a .300/.360/.425 hitter in the minors and a 1st round pick. Probably would have been a league average 2B.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) Asomugha? Anyone? He's done. He has never been a good zone corner and he doesn't even cut it as a man corner. The only thing you could conceivably consider is him as a safety, and it's too late in the season to be experimenting.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) Cafardo: Here's something that is only interesting if it implies that the Sox are interested in AJ. But don't take it as implying the Sox are interested in AJ. Maybe they are having a secret affair and now Cafardo has ruined everything

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
witesoxfan replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
All things considered, I honestly think I'd rank signing Granderson to a multi-year deal right up there with the Sox signing Erstad. He at least has a lot of talent, but that just seems like a move that would backfire in a big way. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) Santiago + Phegley + Jaye or Beck would be about as high as I'd go. I wouldn't even go this high. Again, Castro's a nice player, but what's really his peak? I personally think it's about what he put up this year, with him more likely to be a 2-3 WAR player. This is not a guy I am going to spend a ton on because right now, he's probably the difference between like 73 and 75 wins, and this isn't including the possibility that Flowers and/or Phegley come out and actually produce this year. I am willing to overlook Phegley's numbers to some extent as he was trying to learn the pitching staff, but I think he can be a relatively productive player too. I like Castro, but I think my offer starts with Santiago and we can maybe work from there. If that's not enough, then that's fine.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) This isn't true. Everyone hates AJ. No one would go to breakfast with him without it being for a reason, and there is no way JR enjoyed it. Well yes, Nick Cafardo is just stating these things but he worded it really poorly. It should say "AJ Pierzynski enjoyed breakfast. Jerry Reinsdorf also enjoyed breakfast. The two later made eye contact and awkwardly avoided each other while doing their best to avoid speaking at the GM Meetings."

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 11:57 AM) Fine, then 32 homers over 4 years. And you're assuming he won't ever get injured again playing an unfamiliar position in 1B. So if the White Sox announced that instead of Abreu, they'd signed Joe Mauer for the 2014-2018 seasons at a price tag of $115 million (plus bonuses/incentives for MVP, All-Star games, etc.), would you be happier with that than the Abreu deal? Paying for his age 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 seasons. This is not the point of contention and is completely off topic. You are saying he's unqualified to play 1B due to his numbers. His numbers clearly indicate otherwise. Even in a bad year, he provided pretty damn good value at the plate.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) If I am the Astros, and I have a talented young catcher, in this environment where they are extremely hard to come by, there is nothing about that package that makes me even consider it. I'd need to see at the very least, Quintana in that deal... Oh don't get me wrong, I agree completely with you. The Sox are just also at a point where they don't need to overpay to bring anybody in particular in. The Sox can wiggle a bit from that initial offer, but not a ton. I just don't see the Sox and Astros as good trading partners when it comes to these young, cost controlled, talented pieces.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) I'm not sure what package you could even come up with. They don't need Beckham at all. DeAza could definitely be a starter for them, but it would be a little like the Cubs acquiring DeJesus, only to turn around and dump him...because they (Astros) need young/er players who will be part of their core going forward. I guess he could be a stopgap for a year or two for them, but then we would have a gaping hole in CF again. If they asked for Santiago, N. Jones and Rienzo, that's probably about the best package we could come up with at the moment. We're not going to include Santiago AND Johnson in the same deal. You offer something like Santiago, Flowers, and Thompson/Petricka and let them decide. Castro is not a vital piece, but he is a nice piece. If you can get him within your restraints - which that deal definitely would be - you can go ahead and make the move. Otherwise, find another piece and be done with it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) We can't afford to give up Quintana/Santiago + Beckham/DeAza/N. Jones + prospect. Better to go with Dioner Navarro/Ruiz or someone of his ilk for two years...honestly, I would prefer to acquire Saltalamacchia and not give up a 2nd round draft pick than trade away 2 pieces of our core and and a tier B/C prospect. If they could keep the price at $32 million/4 years, then I would do it. Anything above $35 million, I would allow another team to outbid me for him. With the number of teams with money and a need at catcher, I would be incredibly surprised if Saltalamacchia signed for less then $40 million I have no problem trading Santiago+ for Castro.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 09:01 AM) Ok. I've just seen those clips where he's flailing at the hard breakers down and away. Point is, he's not a hitter yet, and considering him #2 seems a stretch. But we'll see where he is a year from now. If it's the same season, he won't be on anybody's list. Frank Thomas flailed at hard breaking balls down and away. Every player does. I believe that Courtney Hawkins still has the highest overall ceiling of anybody in the Sox organization. It's hard to ignore that in a system so weak. There's depth there, but he's really the only prospect (not counting Abreu) who can be an impact type player.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) Whatever. He was a solid defender who hit home runs. He also helped the team playing 3B in 2008 when Crede went down and Josh Fields wasn't the stud many thought. I got ripped plenty of times for defending him. That is just a fact. Now 5 years later, some want to bring him back. It's almost as funny as a thread where people want Greg Walker back. I think you seriously just made the best comparison in this situation, which also shows how ridiculous it would be for the White Sox even consider bringing Juan Uribe back to the organization. Juan Uribe is incredibly unreliable and inconsistent. Signing him at 34 years old for a team in transition/rebuilding/retooling is silly, and I love Juan Uribe.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 07:08 PM) 838 OPS, 8 homers per year and 54 RBI's per season (average) over the last 3 years. That's not worth $23 million per year. If he hits closer to this season's numbers, sure, but then you'd have to cancel out 2011 and 2012 as if they didn't happen. -That .838 OPS consists of splits of .313/.399/.439/.838 -That also includes an injury plagued year where he hit .287/.360/.368/.729 -Over the last 2 healthy years, he's put up a .321/.410/.460/.870 line Cherry pick a bit more next time. When healthy, the guy is an incredible hitter. Moving him to 1B is going to better insure his health.

Guy wants to make ND town white sanctuary
witesoxfan replied to witesoxfan's topic in The Filibuster
OMFG, the "white" supremicist is part black http://bismarcktribune.com/news/state-and-...1a4bcf887a.html His place was also vandalized recently as well, which is unfortunate but not surprising. -
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 09:41 PM) Here's a great reason to trade Dunn, and it's the one of the reasons the Cincinnati Reds traded him: To get him out of the clubhouse and away from the younger players. He's out of shape, lazy and not much of a leader. Or maybe he'll follow through on one of his hollow threats to walk away from the final year on his contract if he thinks things just aren't working. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 11, 2013 -> 10:42 PM) This screams "I hate Adam Dunn as a person" Yes.

Juan Uribe is going to be 34 years old next season and, prior to this season, put up a split of .199/.262/.289/.552 between 2011 and 2012. Juan Uribe might be the last person on earth I want playing 3B for the White Sox, and I am a big Juan Uribe fan. This is the same thing as bringing back Paul Konerko or AJ Pierzynski.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 10, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) He very well be not worth trading for, but we certainly do need a CF. Da Aza is not passable. For a team in transition, he is perfectly passable. There's no need to spend an exorbitant amount on a CF when the difference he will make is 72 or 76 wins. I don't understand why you'd want to spend a ton when it really won't matter this year.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) Who, pray tell, do we have to play CF? CF if a top need for this team. Not really, not in a transition year. De Aza plays a passable CF anyways, even if he is not comfortable there. The biggest need was already satisfied, the next need is young, talented, team-controlled players.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 08:55 PM) So Beckham could become even more horrible than he already is? Oh yes
