Should have won last night, should have lost today. It all evens out. I'm going to be happy with a .500+ road trip every single time, even if it is against the two cellar dwellers of the AL Central.

4/6/11 - Sox vs. Royals - 1:10 (CSN)

QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) How did Buerhle do today? I'm guessing the pen struggled once again. The White Sox bullpen has given up 2 runs, only 1 earned, in 6 innings. Looks better in writing than it does throughout the game thread. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) That wasn't a save situation IIRC. Thornton was in his 3rd inning of work. His arm was shot. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) Ok, then I don't want to see one single opinion out of you on anything in the majors until the appropriate number of games have been played. K? You seriously need to calm down and maybe count to 10 or something. You've clearly got some issues over there. I really don't make opinions without a decent sample size. You really only see me say "They are throwing/hitting/s***ting/drinking/whatever well, I hope they keep it up." The fact that Ohman has been garbage thus far? Don't care. Let me see him be garbage for a few more outings before I declare him the worst pitcher in the world. The fact that Quentin has been amazing? Don't care. Let me see him do it for more than 2 weeks before I even think he's the greatest hitter to ever walk the planet. And I will yell and scream whenever I want, especially when I feel like people are making ridiculous statements. Suggesting that Sergio Santos is a candidate to be a closer because he's been the White Sox best reliever through 5 games and he himself has only thrown 2 games is f***ing ridiculous. Now, if you wanted to say "I've seen he has great stuff, he performed really well last year until he hit a wall and his arm fell off, so I think he could be a candidate to close if he can prove that his arm can last the whole year," then I wouldn't have freaked out. Make sense? -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 04:09 PM) Oh, so he has not been the best reliever so far? K, gotcha. Who gives a s***, it's two games into the year. At this rate, Adam Dunn is going to have like 36 appendectomies but I don't think there's enough appendix even in a man his size for that many operations. The White Sox were the best offense in the history of the game after 1 game, so let's just go ahead and declare it. He's been in 2 games. Let them pitch a bit, K? -

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) There's no guarantee MT is a closer, I said it several times on here and there's the proof. 0 for 1 in save opps- not a good start. Mercy. There's 0 proof the other way too, because he's never done it. In case you weren't watching, one of the best closers in the AL blew a 3 run lead today after he got the first two outs. -

QUOTE (peanut33tillman @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) Cool pic, and you'll still likely finish 4th or 5th in the division like EVERY YEAR so dont get too excited over 6 games of your season big guy. Settle down, he's having some fun. We're 5 times into the year, so getting this defensive is rather silly. Game's not over yet anyways! -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) I love how Humber's Yahoo profile pic has him in a Twins hat. It's like he's a secret agent sent by MIN to sabotage the season. It all makes sense now. -
Adam Dunn had emergency appendectomy last night.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) I'd be willing to bet that they don't lose as many to them as the Sox do, though. We'll see. If Sale doesn't throw a pitch right down the middle of the plate to Butler, the Sox probably end up winning that game. And in all reality, that is a game they win any time from May to September. I don't think they won it last night because Ozzie is finding his comfort zone with the bullpen and Sale is still a bit rusty. -

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) He should miss up to three weeks - it's not exactly an easy procedure. It depends if the appendix ruptured or not. Not the end of the season, but still a pain in the ass. I'm going to trust the medical professionals that are actually around the scenario that are saying 5-10 days. And considering it was laparoscopic, I'm going to say assuming that it didn't rupture. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) This just in! While we're playing .500 ball against the eventual 4th and 5th place teams in the Central, we are failing to gain good ground over Detroit and Minnesota. When we start playing good teams we know Detroit and Minnesota will beat up on these same 4th and 5th place teams during that stretch. Games still count in April. This just in! Minnesota and Detroit will lose games to Cleveland and Kansas City too! And the Sox still have 15 and 17 games left against those two. There are still 5 months of baseball left after April. -

QUOTE (retro1983hat @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Every year when we suck in April except 2005, I complain that we give games away and every year everyone tells me it's early. Playing catch up all year is harder than being in the lead. Say this, repeat this. GAMES IN APRIL ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS GAMES IN SEPTEMBER Yep, and they are going to lose close games in April, just like they'll lose close games in September. They'll also win close games in April, just like they'll win close games in September. They'll also lose to bad teams in April, just like they'll lose to bad teams in September. They'll also beat good teams in April, just like they'll beat good teams in September. It's baseball. Ozzie is still getting a feel for his bullpen, who he can trust in what spots and who he can't trust at all and whatever else. There has been quite a bit of turnover there from Opening Day 2010 to Opening Day 2011. So, while your point is valid that these games matter just as much in the standings, these games are mainly important because they set the foundation for the next 5 months of baseball. There are still 158 games left in the season and there is time to make these games up. When Ozzie gets his bullpen sorted out, the Sox will eventually start winning games they have no business winning. I would guess that the next time Ozzie has Sale out there when a righty comes up or when he looks a little frazzled, Ozzie will have a quicker hook for him. -
Omar Epps's cheekbones are far more pronounced, they look nothing alike (they do look similar but I think if there was a photo quiz picking out who is who, I'd get atleast an 8 out of 10 on it)

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 6, 2011 -> 12:08 AM) Balta made a good point. If It's a matchup of elite pitchers that's one thing. It's the low scoring games with #3/#4/#5 starters that I don't care for. It can be a 3/4/5 type guy so long as he's actually pitching well and it's not that the opposing offense sucks. Honestly, Brian Duensing is the Twins 5th starter right now but I genuinely enjoy watching him pitch just because every time he goes out, he reminds me of the little engine that could. He doesn't have great stuff, but it's better than you think, and he really does a good job of attacking hitters. I think he's going to be their 3rd best starter this year and wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the 2nd best. Like tonight, he gave up 2 homers early on bad pitches (right down the middle to Tex, up and over the middle to Andruw) but he was pretty much untouchable beyond that, and that's a very good Yankees lineup. To your point though, if it's Joe Saunders on the mound, I'd rather watch paint dry,
