QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) Seriously? You just emailed Brooks, and he hooked you up? Do you have any sort of history with him? Or is he just a very nice, accommodating man? Actually I think it's hi8is that's the very nice, accommodating man for buying the scout seats, which I'm sure aren't cheap. I'm not going to ask how much he spent on them, but when you have customers who spend a lot of money with you, you want to treat them properly.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 05:00 PM) I randomly just found this awesome image of Ozzie. Be honest. You were looking for mustache porn.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 05:14 AM) Nah nah, not saying you should... we should all just not talk about it and pretend there's nothing happening... like a pitcher (not named Mark Buehrle!) not talking to anyone when he has a no-hitter going! Of course, that's a different story entirely. That is one specific event that is pretty incredible and awesome all rolled into one, and talking about it can throw a pitcher off. The same thing applies to bowling too, except it's not as cool in bowling (it's also easier). Hochever throws fat pitches like J4L loves his fat b****es.

I am going to speak the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me god. I'm not going to say Luke Hochevar is good as if part of some magical sorcerer's agenda that the opposite of what is said comes true, just like I'm not going to say that Felix Hernandez is garbage so that the Sox can hit him. He is the Royals best starting pitcher at the moment - which is why he started on opening day - though that just makes him a 4 foot tall midget, towering over the other 2 and a half to 3 feet tall midgets that make up the Royals pitching staff (save that 7 footer they have at closer). He is capable of shutting down a good major league offense, but he is equally capable of being dismantled and dismembered by a bad major league offense. He's exactly what you think of when you think of a #4 starter - good stuff, ability to dominate, ability to implode, and all you ask is a bit more consistency to bring him to that #3 level. It's certainly possible that he'll locate his pitches well and really throw the Sox off. I'm not counting on it.

I was watching the Cubs/DBacks game and Gibson called a hit and run. Brenly and Kasper were talking about how Gibson was going to be aggressive on the basepaths and put pressure on the defense. I think that's stupid because these guys' games are so refined that putting pressure on them isn't going to do a lot like it does in high school or even college ball. Then I remembered that it does happen so often, like 1 in 20 times. Then I realized that managers sit there and call these sac bunts and hit and runs and steal bases with players they shouldn't be doing any of those things with, and the 1 time out of 20 that it is works, they are probably going to turn to their bench coach and get all high and mighty and talk about how brilliant that strategy is because they made the team mess up and got 2 runs out of it. Then they'll give up a 3-run homer the next inning and eventually finish the season 67-95. It was an epiphany of sorts.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) If we're going for OMG NO!!! analogies to Sox bullpenners of past, I'm going with McDougal. No, I think Linebrink works better in this analogy. MacDougal couldn't throw strikes, so if he came in, it was pretty much a given that he'd walk 2 hitters per appearance. Ohman hasn't had that problem. His problem has been throwing balls over the fat part of the plate, which was also Linebrink's problem.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) Hope you are right. Hochever is decent and I'm not sure the Sox have seen Francis before. Royals lineup can rake. Hochevar is garbage and Francis is a soft tossing lefty. I'd be quite surprised if they don't score enough runs - 4-5 at a minimum for both, and I'm expecting closer to 6-8.
-
Well I think they're going to win both of them so we have all grounds covered (unless someone is VERY sure that one or both of the games will be rained out). In case you were wondering, the Royals pitching is really, really bad.

Omar Epps was terrible. I did find Willie though. He's going to be busy.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) I won't make the obvious: "how can you have time to make thousands of posts to an internet board about the white sox, but not have $200 to watch the games" comment. Because people like the White Sox and have time during the morning, day, and late night but not at night when the Sox are on TV.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) I just want Ozzie to know his players better. You've been here for this long and still don't know Alexei isn't a great bunter (sure he'll get one down from time to time, but is not consistent enough) Pierre, Vizquel are the best bunters on your team. And from what I have seen, Alexei hasn't looked completely lost and terrible at baseball thus far either, which is a huge change from his normal Aprils
-
I don't care whether or not they can get the bunt down. They should be able to being major leaguers and all, but that's totally irrelevant. Just swing the bat and assume that Alexei is going to beat out a DP or that he'll hit it so that you can still get the runner on second to third with 1 out still.

So is Carmelo Anthony overrated or the package the Nuggets got back underrated? The Knicks are 9-12 since the trade and the Nuggets are 15-4. I get that the Knicks dealt whatever depth they had in that deal, but I've never really felt that Carmelo was one of the better players in the game. He just seems to be all name and just a little game.

Note to self: never, ever go to a Jamba Juice

I was actually unaware that Alexei had bunted into the triple play until I heard a replay on the radio today. My first response was "F***ing Ozzie"

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Actually it would be KW's MO to keep him around and take the two draft picks. I think it totally depends on what happens this season. If Danks becomes the ace that he has the ability to become, Maybe JR finally keeps a big money pitcher around because he wants to win more. Maybe we've seen the beginning of the new White Sox business model for a while, where we are players in the FA market and we don't let good players walk because of a stupid "3 year rule" I don't think there's anything stupid about it at all -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 07:42 AM) Hmm....were they two hot chicks? And what would "hooking up" actually be describing? I smell what you're scratching at

QUOTE (Real @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Ozzie realizing talent when he sees it, says Carrasco was very very good after the first inning I hope the tribe and royals don't all of the sudden get good (75-80 wins) in the next couple years.... Oh they will, don't worry

I think Lackey will be fine. ERA right around 4, give or take .25. One outing isn't going to change my mind.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) Mmmm... I don't really think 100%. I'd say 50%. He hardly ever works the lefty/lefty matchup I would say he does it too often. He wants his guys to be able to do more than be a LOOGY type, but he will bring a lefty in if there are lefties coming up and vice versa. I would applaud him for that because pitcher vs batter has very low correlation. It's a complete matter of sample size. When the Sox play the Rangers this year, do you want Ozzie to bench Dunn for Teahen when Dave Bush is on the mound? Dunn has a .571 OPS against him while Teahen is at .962. Then I will let you explain to me how 92.5% of Mark Kotsay's plate appearances last year came against right handed pitching.

QUOTE (beautox @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Agreed; Honestly I much prefer both the Jays and Rays to the yankees and redsox for the ALE and WC. The jays pitching is serious business and they've got a good line-up. Come again? I know you love young talent and all, but thinking that the Jays are a superior team to both the Yankees and the Red Sox is assinine. Only 2 of their starting 5 threw 100 innings in the majors last season. I love what the Jays are doing, think there's a good chance they win 80 games this year on the strength of that offense, and are competing for division titles as soon as 2013, but this isn't the year. In fact, I'm expecting them to get out to about a 30-20 or 40-30 start only to see them come crashing down when all of their young pitchers start hitting a wall. And, to be quite honest, it wouldn't entirely surprise me to see Baltimore finish ahead of them this year, though I'm not expecting it. I also think Tampa Bay is playing with fire this year. It's been a hot phrase around here, but there is no team in the entire major leagues that is as boom-or-bust as Tampa is. They have a completely rebuilt pitching staff and 4 new starters on offense. Many of them are risk/reward players. They are either going to mesh really well and win a lot of games, or it's going to blow up and get ugly.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) Oz is a "from the gut" guy. He doesn't go with matchups very often. It's "wait and see", I guess. ehh? Ozzie goes with matchups all the time

Quentin looks amazing through 2 games. That stroke to right center is a thing of beauty.
