Gotta love a reliever coming in and issuing a 4 pitch walk

Jesus, Brent needs to be a hell of a lot more careful on those stolen bases. I don't think he ever touched 2nd until he finally went back to stand on it.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) According to Gameday, 3 of those 4 pitches were on the black of the strike zone, and he got none of them. You aren't going to get those pitches if you're as erratic as Jackson has been

Would have hate to have seen where that ball ended up if he didn't break his bat.

Just a dumb rookie mistake. He'll get better in the future.

Second time they've batted around already this season. If someone is bored, I'd like to see how long it took them to bat around twice last year.

White Sox winner!
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 12:58 AM) Nope. I saw this dude with the Cubs. He's human diesel fuel. Now if you keep him away from all things right-handed and put him in low-leverage situations you might have a chance. Otherwise, it's bombs away. The last time he played for the Cubs, Darin Erstad was wearing a White Sox uniform. Pitchers change and improve. He's not Mariano, but as a 5th reliever, he's fine. Good strikeout rate, generally limits home runs I would say his career .208/.298/.348/.646 against lefties says he's capable. It's not exactly death on them, but it's still pretty damn good, and good enough that he can get them out. The .264/.360/.400 that he's thrown against righties is a little more worrisome, so yes, he absolutely needs to stay away from right handed hitters.

Before we go to banishing Ohman to the deepest bowels of hell, consider some perspective here. It's the first game out of Spring Training, so these guys aren't in perfect shape yet. The Sox were up like 14-4 when he came in the game, so he had a little wiggle room. The Indians were a bit pissed that they were getting schooled as badly as they were and still had that Opening Day adrenaline flowing. Oh, and the main point I was trying to get at - Matt Thornton's second career game in a White Sox uniform - 2.2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 4 BB, 2 K. There's obviously more of a track record on Will Ohman, but give him more than 1 game to dig his own grave. Make it 3 or 4 atleast, please.

I posted this in the chat, but Beckham didn't have his first 3 hit game until July 11th last year. And Alexei didn't look absolutely terrible. To me, those are the biggest pluses so far. Quentin looking good was nice too I suppose. Oh, and the pitching doesn't concern me at all. They were throwing batting practice to try and get the game over with. With a 14 run lead, there's no point in dicking around, trying to make the perfect pitch. Just need to make sure that when it's a 1 run lead, they are ready.

I am going to say that the second strike on Rios was a makeup call. That wasn't anywhere near the plate.

I love Opening Day, because overanalysis is at its finest. I have the stupid Indians broadcast and the color guy was already talking about how outfielders were shifted improperly for Pierre's AB.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 31, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) If the Sox can suck it up and forget about the cold and work the count, Carmona will walk every one of them and get guys on base for the sluggers. He can just channel Miguel Asencio and throw 16 straight balls to start the game. That would be OK by me.
