I remember when AJ coming to the plate didn't immediately make me hate him. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) Jackson for Hudson will be an economic fail no matter what happens. That's the key. All thing being equal and I'd be fine with the trade. If Jackson has a breakout year then he's looking at 5 years and at least $70-75 million. And then we've still got the two giant elephants in the room that is Danks and Buehrle to worry about. And a farm in which Wite would be the team's top pitching prospect. And hes's garbage. Played some catch today. I think I was getting my fastball into the 75-78 range, and my curveball was breaking about 3 inches. Just rounding into game shape.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 09:15 PM) Ouch. On the wrist. I'm thinking Morel is headed for a DL stint. Meanwhile, Juan's walk up music makes me feel like I'm in a club at 2am. Barely got him. I think he's fine. THATS WHY YOU BUNT BABYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE -

I'm a fan of Dan Johnson, but how is he hitting cleanup? I'm OK with it if he swings and misses. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) This is all I have to say in reply. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) That doesn't say anything. If Giambi was on the Olympic teams, it means he was one of the top amateurs in the world. It is also is the one time we are reasonably sure he wasn't on anything and we can use that as a baseline. Seriously. That is a Topps 91, which means that photo was likely taken in 1990. He didn't make it to the Majors until 1995. I understand that Giambi used and has admitted as much, but to suggest that he got that big from steroids is fatuous. He was 19 years old in 1990; if he's a big, hulking monster at that age, then I'd be more scared. You can hit the weights and get that big in 5 years time. If I had to guess as to when Giambi got started, I would say it was probably in the 98 or 99. Just looking at his numbers, he was a 40 2B, 20 HR type guy early in his career, and was similar in 1998. Starting around 1999 and especially 2000, quite a few of those doubles started going over the fence for homers, and his overall numbers began improving. Of course there's no way to know it exactly, but here he is in 1995: Doesn't look like the Incredible Hulk to me He does begin to look bigger in the '96 photos/'97 cards, so perhaps he had started then. I don't think he started using until he got to the majors. I don't think any of us know anything. I genuinely do think he is remorseful for what he did, and I think he's been clean for years, perhaps because he was very legitimately and seriously ill in 2004.

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) http://bullpen-blog.com/?p=698 Dude doesn't really understand the finer points of baseball, apparently. "He's not even going for the base! Waaaah" well kiddo, you don't need to go directly for the base so long as you can touch it. "But he slid in late!" that's kind of the point, to keep the middle infielder from seeing 1B for as long as possible and then coming in to break up the play. He did a pretty damn good job of it considering Teix was safe.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 10:10 AM) See, this is one thing I can't stand about Soxtalk. The people who wanted Lee instead of Konerko were a minority. In fact, it was a very small minority, but it still doesn't stop people from acting like it was everyone on the site. It was a very small minority. There were quite a few people who weren't opposed to the alternative of having Lee come in, myself included, but most people wanted Konerko back and were happy that he resigned.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) He's still valuable because of his ability to play so many positions well. But he's definitely not the hitter he was back in 09. He still has great plate discipline, but the power's disappeared. Zobrist is a pretty good example that players can simply just get hot and hit for a bit of power for a relatively short period of time. He's pretty much a 10-15 homer player, good value due to versatility and patience at the plate, but he's not as crazy good as he was in 2009. It's too early to say anything about the Rays, but there are a lot of things that can go really, really wrong with that team, and that has been shown thus far. The organization is and has been doing a lot of things right, but this year was going to be a hard one for them no matter what with how much they lost over the offseason. The good news is that, if this keeps up (and realistically, it could), they have so many guys signed to one year deals that they can deal them at the deadline or get compensation for them in the offseason. And their minor league depth is still great. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) So when do we find out if he's not claimed, accepts the assignment etc? Within the next 48-72 hours

It's total bulls*** and generally unethical to paint an entire fan base as crazy and dangerous when the events they cited occurred AT LEAST 8 years prior to the writing of the article. For Christ's sakes, the term "contraction" was still being thrown around during that time frame. The Red Sox STILL hadn't won a World Series. It's totally illogical and just terrible reporting all together. I can't believe Rogers' is still employed by the Tribune with the garbage that he produces.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 7, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) I thought I read that he abandoned the slider entirely? He probably did, I was just saying that it would be sweet if he could keep throwing it.

Went to an Elton John concert last night. Say what you will about that, but Elton was phenomenal. Considering he was in Bismarck, North Dakota playing in front of a crowd that was less than 5K, he brought a ton of energy to the show. He can't hit the high notes like he used to, but he can definitely still tickle the ivories. It would have been much more enjoyable had there not been 3 total snooty b****es sitting behind us. They were talking the entire show, and considering this is at a concert, they have to be talking loudly. They did this through every single song, not listening at all, which made my listening experience worse, and then at the end of every song, they'd scream really, really loudly. At one point, one person a few seats down asked them to hold their conversation or at least lower the volume of their speaking, and their response was essentially "We paid for these seats, so we are going to do whatever we want." I normally don't wish ill will upon people, but I hope karma hit them with an open handed b****slap upside the head last night.

Hopefully Andruw has his swoon in May and the Yankees DFA because they are impatient like that and then the Sox pick him up.
