  1. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 12:43 AM) we'll be 8-7 after the angels series (we're not beating Haren and Weaver, put that on the board), and could easily be swept if the Sox pull another gem like today in the Humber game dear god this team is a mess right now Dan Haren is 0-1 with a 4.67 ERA in 3 career starts against the White Sox. Jered Weaver has been unbelievable in his career against the Sox but is 4-2 in career games. Beyond that, they've had, by my estimate, 2 weak and 2 mediocre offensive games in 12 games this year. They are hitting the ball really well right now. Overreaction, thy name is you.
  2. Yeah, as Badger pointed out, it could be a hell of a lot worse than this. The offense is playing well and the rotation has been great. The bullpen can really only improve from here, but it could still be bad. Hard to know at this point.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) It's funny. I'm not nearly as worried as most are about the 'pen. Well, at least of our pitchers that actually have talent. I'm gonna give Ozzie (yes, this will shock you) the benefit of the doubt here. As we all know by now, bullpens make no f***ing sense a lot of the time. They're more unpredictable than when I'm drunk. And that's pretty bad. Let's give Ozzie a chance to get this straightened out. And this really is J4L posting. Ranger did not hack into my account. I am predicting you are drunk at 11:46 AM next Tuesday, the 19th
  4. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) "Where to Master Wayne?" or even better just start quoting movies that he was never in. Haha I was totally running a scenario through my head where I told him I felt like he was Whitney Houston and I was his bodyguard. And he woulda been like "That was Kevin Costner" and I woulda been all "Yeah I know, but that's still what this feels like."
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) I hate to have to defend Kobe. But this is pathetic. I've said f** or homo or whatever about 53734264364 over the last 5 years. It's not personal at all. Just talking s***. I actually have gay friends. Even one who posts here. He goes by the name of witesoxfan. But I like vagina
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) Really? I'd say Wandy has been better in just about every aspect (though Myers only pitched 70 innings in 2009) than Myers the last three years. Plus Brett is a wife beater. Women get on my god damn nerves, like, all the time. But I'd never hit one. Really makes you wonder how Ed Wade keeps getting work. He ran the Phillies into the ground and had to have Stand Pat come in and clean it up. Now he's done the same thing with the Astros and someone is going to have a long road to recovery in front of them. To expose the nerd in me for a bit, Ed Wade really reminds me of a GM in OOTP that is willing to trade for any and every incremental upgrade and will pay you top dollar for every single one of them. People just line up to deal with idiots like that and everyone else is always sad afterwards that they didn't get in on it while the pickings were still good.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) Is Jim Gallagher a late bloomer prospect, or just a guy? From what I have read about him, he seems to be a blue collar type of player. Works really hard, energetic, but lacks some of the necessary tools. Could certainly make it to the majors, but probably not as a starter on a contending team. He was compared to Ross Gload by FutureSox, so whether you view that as a good or bad thing is up to you. He also kind of sounds like Doug Mientkiewicz without the gold glove.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Can someone please give a f***ing update?
  9. Sounds like I may possibly end up playing chauffeur for Val Kilmer this weekend.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) How about Dayan having 2 whole walks already this season? Our little guy is growing up so quickly
  11. This is just childish at this point. I can't f***ing stand the NFL at this point. and I mean that as a generality, not as "I can't stand the NFL, go NFLPA!" F em both
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) Does DeAza legitimately have more of a future than Danks? I suppose that Danks would actually see better arms/stuff in AA, who knows? Not so sure about that. If anyone will suffer in PT, I would guess it would be Gartrell. Not that he deserves it, based on his accomplishments the last couple of seasons versus Danks, but I would be hard-pressed to believe the organization would consider him to be a possible replacement for Quentin. The writing is seemingly already on the wall with his older brother not having a future with the organization unless something miraculous and precedent-setting happens with Reinsdorf, but from an outsider's viewpoint, there's no reason to believe the "kinship" between Danks and Reinsdorf comes close to the ones with Konerko and Buehrle. I think De Aza has a brighter future in the MLB, and that might simply be as a 40-man callup or 6th outfielder. I want him the freshest against comparable MLB arms. He will see that at AAA. Quite frankly, I would like to see Danks demoted to AA. I think he was rushed to AAA and his bat has never been there. It'd also serve as a bit of a wakeup call to him to either get his s*** together or he'll become minor league fodder pretty damn quickly.
  13. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 03:18 AM) Im wondering why you think they still make the playoffs when no team has ever gone 0-6 and made the playoffs, much less even finished with a winning record There is a better chance they finish with a winning record, but I am gonna stick with the "they aint making the playoffs" I believe in the numbers.. 0-6 or 2-9 at the beginning of the season is the same thing as 2-8 or 10-17 throughout the course of the regular season. The 2002 Athletics went 10-17 in May (which, WL+/-, is equivalent to 2-9) and won 103 games (they won 20 games in a row, but you can do that by going 30-10 or 40-20). The 2005 Astros were 15 games under .500 at one point and won 89 games. Hell, the 2010 Baltimore Orioles won 32 games in 105 games with Dave Trembley and Juan Samuel as their manager, and then won 34 of their next 57 with Buck, and, through the continuation of last year, have won 40 of 66 (which is a .607 winning percentage, or a 98 win pace) with him. The very last part is relatively meaningless, but the sheer fact that the Red Sox have gotten off to a poor start means absolutely jacks*** with regards to their long-term success this year. I can pretty much guarantee that every good team at some point in time this season will have a stretch where they play 7 games below .500...all we as fans will have to do is cherry pick that statistic. It is pretty cool to think that the White Sox took 2 of 3 from the Indians and 3 of 4 from the Rays, and both those teams either swept/won/could sweep their first series with the Red Sox. I'm all about the Red Sox losing. I hate them more than the Twins, Yankees, or Cubs (and quite frankly, hate them more than those 3 fan bases all together). Suggesting that they won't make the playoffs because they went 0-6 to start the regular season is quite ridiculous. It'd be pretty comparable to saying that a team that was losing by 31 points halfway into the 3rd quarter of the first game of the NFL season has never gone on to make the playoffs. I don't care if that is correct or not - I'm about 99.8% sure it's incorrect because the last time the Bills beat the Patriots, it was Bledsoe's first game and they ended up winning either 38-3 or 31-3 and then went 5-11, losing by the same score to the Pats later that season - because instead that it's really motherf***ing early and that a coincidental statistic like that means absolutely nothing. Now, if you wanted to point to holes in their bullpen or rotation or that perhaps their lineup isn't actually good somehow (and it's definitely possible, considering Youkilis has never consistently played 3B and is relatively mediocre at 3B and is coming off injury, Gonzalez is in his first go around of the AL, Ellsbury didn't play much last year, David Ortiz and JD Drew are 35 and are both coming off a relatively mediocre seasons, Saltalamacchia and Scutaro blow, and that Crawford may have an adjustment period when great expectations are put upon him), then, yeah, I'll listen. Don't bring that 0-6 BS though. You're better than that.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) yes? what do you want? I thought he was talking to Brian Anderson
  15. QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) ppl tend to forget that this guy was the best pitcher in the league not too long ago ... give him a chance to prove himself. The first part is quite debatable, but I do agree wholeheartedly with the second point. I also tend to side with the school of thought that there's a large difference between being injury prone and players like Mark Prior or Carlos Guillen who are constantly injuring the same parts over and over because those parts can't stay healthy. I think once Peavy gets healthy, he's going to be a really good pitcher for the White Sox. It's a matter of getting him to 100%, or at the very least, ~95% while letting him work incrementally up to 100% as the season progresses.
  16. The topic of Derek Jeter moving down in the Yankees order just came up on Baseball Tonight. John Kruk said no because "If you move him down and he struggles, then what do you do?" The answer, John, is to leave him down there, or to bench his motherf***ing ass. Giving one of your worst hitters the most or second most at bats on the team is the very description of offensive disaster. And, unlike most teams that still use the traditional lead off hitter, the Yankees have a f***ing ton of guys who are better options, including Brett Gardner. BTW, don't ask why I was watching, because I don't know myself.
  17. I just want to say that I was right. I love tooting my own horn. Wish someone else would toot my horn sometime soon
  18. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Then that would have to be the case. Restovich is clearly just minor league fodder... while milledge still has a chance to produce at the big league level. It a no brainer really. Restovich is 32. I think that says enough right there.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Because he saw what it did to him, because he knew other people that were using and saw what it did to them. One thing I always come back to is that for steroids, all we ever have is anecdotal information. Canseco probably has about the largest knowledge base of anyone as to what effects steroids have on baseball players. And he told these stories to sell a book, which isn't exactly the most noble of reasons to spill his beans. He has needed money for a while, which is why he continues with side projects at all times too, including boxing and independent baseball leagues. If he doesn't need money, do these every get told? When it comes to speaking about players who used steroids, I trust Canseco. When it comes to the effects of steroids, it's harder to trust one source who has likely embellished quite a bit to sell books.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) Should we decide not to prosecute people because they can afford good enough lawyers to make it expensive for the taxpayer? Should it be ok for rich people to lie to investigators? What other crimes is it ok for rich people to commit that poor people can't? What poor person is lying to a grand jury about steroid use? I think Bonds' crime is low enough on the list that spending $50 million is irresponsible.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Tony LaRussa? I would guess talking about his alcoholism and DUI, which, I guess, taints them. I would also say being drunk is a performance enhancer, but not in terms of playing or coaching baseball.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) Honestly? It kinda does. Because he saw people use steroids or he could tell others were using steroids? No.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) The fact that we don't base prosecutions on how good of a legal team the defendant can buy, but instead on whether or not a crime was committed. Is it justifiable though? It's one dude who has is guilty as hell in the eye of the public and is going to have to deal with the ramifications of heavy steroid use ravaging his body within the next 5-10 years. If he is inducted into the Hall, it's years and years down the road (and I think people who were convicted of steroids are going to struggle to get in no matter what, regardless of what was done before the steroids were allegedly started). Don't you personally think that $50 million could have been spent better?
