  1. Verlander is going to throw a perfect game tonight
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) Is this seriously an argument about Getz vs. Beckham? I think so, yeah.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) 2 out of 3 ain't bad That's a great song
  4. QUOTE (since56 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) Getz is better defensively and faster. At least he steals more bases. Their average is about the same but Beckham is a better.............what? At the time the Sox could have gotten a lot for Beckham and also they would not now have Teahen, and his salary. I don't think Getz is better defensively; I think he has better hands, but is slower to react and doesn't have as good of an arm. That's not a big deal most of the time, but can be a factor when turning DPs which hurts his value because he couldn't be kept as a utility player, whereas Beckham was moved from SS because he doesn't have the necessary range to play it at the MLB level and did play 3B. I think they are pretty even defensively 2B, but I'd give a slight edge to Beckham. Their average is similar. Beckham draws more walks. Beckham has far superior power. Getz will steal more bases, but that's a pretty trivial point. And Getz is quite a bit more injury prone too. Oh, and Beckham was drafted 8th overall and is still a young player. He's going to be given every chance and then some before a 4th round pick who wasn't highly regarded.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) These horrific NL lineups and the A's, Mariners and Rays are certainly not helping matters. The A's, Rays, and Twins will score runs (I know you didn't mention the Twins, but I don't think they've scored more than 5 runs in a game yet). For the Twins and Rays, it's a matter of getting their big bat healthy, and the A's just need to hit a bit more. The A's don't have a great offense, but they have a little bit of 2005 White Sox going on with them in that they have maybe 1 or 2 sorta big bats but there isn't really a big weak spot anywhere in that lineup, relatively speaking. I get that both Suzuki and Pennington are garbage, but Uribe and Podsednik were both pretty bad for that Sox team too but they were good enough that they didn't embarrass themselves at the plate and they posed some sort of threat at the plate. The NL - I have nothing. So many of those teams have like 3-4 really good hitters and then 4-5 absolutely terrible hitters. The Brewers are a perfect example of that - Fielder, Braun, Weeks, McGehee, and Hart are all pretty solid to great hitters, but LuCroy, Betancourt, and Gomez are just terrible.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) And its always good practice to give a conservative estimate, because no one ever complains if they get healthy earlier. And conversely, they will if it takes longer. Had his surgeon said he'd be 100% back to health and pitching in the major leagues by April 1st, there would be a lot of angry parties right now.
  7. QUOTE (forrestg @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Buehrle, didn't sign a longterm contract while he was under the sox control. Perhaps it is a good strategy. What? Yes he did. The extension he signed with the Sox in '07 was in like June.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) I'm going to wait a while longer. But at some point you might have to come to the realization that he might not be as good as we had originally thought. He was supposed to be as rock-solid a prospect as we've had since Hurt. It's not like Beckham is the only highly regarded prospect that's been up and down (more down) initially. Guys like Matt Wieters and Justin Smoak have certainly had their struggles. Then guys like Posey, Heyward and McCutchen hit the bigs and kick ass right away and never stop. Wieters has looked really good so far this year. Patient at the plate, looking for his pitches, and then punishing those pitches. Wouldn't surprise me if he was a top 5 catcher this year.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) obviously, but his surgeon didn't think he would be back on the mound for the Sox until July. That was taking into account his recovery and rehab. He didn't mean that he wouldn't pick up a baseball until July '11. Surgeons are surgeons. Surgeons are not physical therapists. That isn't exact...it was merely an estimate.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:37 AM) This might have been mentioned by someone else earlier, but Chris Webber said it best. The first round matters not. It's a stepping stone. Getting acclimated to playoff basketball. Webber mentioned the Bulls 72 win season when he was in Washington when the Bulls were the 1 seed and WAS was the 8th seed. They got swept in the 1st round but were in it in every game and really played the Bulls hard. Didn't matter, Bulls went on to win the championship. Obviously this team isn't nearly as experienced, nor do they have 3 Hall of Famers on the roster, but the point is the same. This actually reminds me A LOT of the Bulls/Celtics 1st round series two years ago, except the Bulls are in the opposite position now. The 2007-08 Celtics won 66 games in the regular season. They went to 7 games with the Hawks in the first round. They also won the Championship.
  11. QUOTE (Karko's Throat Skin @ Apr 22, 2011 -> 12:31 AM) We must celebrate like Juan Uribe does...with WHITE WOMEN!!!!! WHERE THE WHITE WOMEN AT she looks very, very young...hope Chris Hansen wasn't around
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) lol. He started it. So I have to offer a rebuttal. If this thread goes 15 pages it's not my fault. First of all, why do you (not you lost) wait until he has a terrible start against an elite offense to make this thread? Hudson's ERA was 4.26 coming into today. Is that great? No. But we're still in the early stages of the season where one good game or bad game can drastically alter a pitcher's ERA. And for the love of the devil...Who has ever said that Hudson was great? Or that he's a HOF? Or that he's the next Greg Maddux? s*** is so annoying. My beef has always been giving up on a cheap/controllable starter for a guy that's a bigger name but not a better pitcher, whom there's a good chance of losing at the end of this year. Why is this so hard to comprehend? If we were the Braves and had 3-4 ready or damn near ready starting pitchers on the brink of the big leagues this wouldn't be a big deal. But the Braves we are not. Man up, let this petty s*** go. Save your breath...breath?...hands and wrists for more important issues that we can yell at each other about over the Internet.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 11:03 PM) I was worried they were going to lose another 100 games in a row That would have put the Cleveland Cavaliers to shame
  14. Gavin Floyd, 2010, first 4 starts - 0-2, 19.1 IP, 8.38 ERA, 2.02 WHIP Gavin Floyd, 2010, final line - 10-13, 187.1 IP, 4.08 ERA, 1.37 WHIP zOMG Dan Hudson had a bad start and it badly inflated his ERA! He must be bad!
  15. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 08:48 PM) And this is when the conversation ends. That's a really, really, really, really downright moronic analysis of Rose's night. Reminds you a bit of this, eh? "Twins general manager Bill Smith, on Livan Hernandez, who improved to 10-6 with a 5.29 earned-run average with Saturday's victory over Texas: I'll take the (10) wins. Who do you want, a guy who's 10-15 with a 2.80 ERA or a guy who's 16-8 with a 7.00 ERA? I'll take the 16-8."
  16. oh I get it. I forgot what I'm supposed to do when they win.
  17. FanGraphs says Alex Torres is the Rays 9th best prospect. He's probably a top 3 prospect in the White Sox system.
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Quentin with a White Sox record 11 doubles in April.. still some games left. For comparison's sake, Frank Thomas had 11 doubles over the course of the season in 2006.
  19. Having seen a few of his ABs, Freddie Freeman reminds me a lot of Ryan Klesko at the plate. Just a mammoth upper body, good eye at the plate, great power, and uglier than sin.
  20. QUOTE (since56 @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) Just wondering. Would the Sox have been off trading Beckham and keeping Chris Getz? No.
  21. The one thing that kind of sucks about Morel not playing is that it puts AJ in the 7th spot and Alexei in the 8th spot because Ozzie can't have 3 full-time lefties hit in a row (he barely allows 2 and probably doesn't even realize that Teahen and Pierre both bat left handed - and Omar doesn't count since he's a switch hitter). If anything, with the way Teahen and AJ have both respectively swung the bat this year, Teahen should be hitting 7th and AJ 9th. Ozzie is too proud to have a veteran like AJ bat 9th though.
  22. Gavin Floyd has two first names. That makes him an official bad ass. Just needs to bring the neckbeard back.
  23. Hey my name is Gavin, I'm here to f*** s*** up
