  1. I don't like that the Bills didn't get a QB again - mainly looking at Kaepernick here - but honestly, I'm glad they didn't panic and pick one they weren't comfortable with, and there are a couple of guys who could be developmental prospects late today. And really, by far the biggest problem with last year's team was the defense and they've drafted 3 guys who project as starters. I'm pretty happy with what the Bills have done so far.
  2. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) couple of interesting notes about the second round The only analyst on ESPN that's picking the Bulls to sweep the Hawks is..... John Hollinger. I am shocked. The Celtics and the Heat actually gets a 3 day rest between Game 2 and Game 3 (G2 on Tues, G3 on Sat.) while the Bulls and Hawks will play every other day. This will be though if we run into nagging injuries. That is absolutely f***ing beyond stupid.
  3. So Buffalo...QB? You like Ponder and he gets scooped so then you just say "OK we don't need one." Idiots. Maybe they like Mallet too.
  4. Jesus, what a brutal schedule. The wallpaper is great, but f*** - two 9 game roadies alone in the month of May (and that last one is actually a 10 game road trip). Maybe I'm imagining things, but it seems like the cut down on off-days all together.
  5. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 01:19 AM) Pena served the same role in 2010 that Carrasco served in his time with the Sox. He was a longman, and occasional emergency spot starter. The only difference, performance-wise, is that Carrasco was better at it. They gave up more to get Pena, obviously, but my beef isn't so much the tendering Pena as it is the non-tendering Carrasco. It's irrelevant I guess, but man...what a failure. But that wasn't the intention going into the year. The emergence of Sergio Santos relegated Pena to that duty. What I honestly don't understand is why they didn't convert him to a starter. I get that he's been absolutely terrible thus far and his overall numbers as a starter were worse than as a reliever, but it seemed to me that he performed relatively well in those spot starts he made - I seem to recall one against KC last year where he had 6 perfect innings and hung up a 5 spot or something in the other. Either way, he really doesn't deserve another chance. You DFA him and hope that someone bites.
  6. Wanted to register as 'whitesoxfan' on the MLB forums. I am like 100% sure still to this day that there was a 10 character limit to user names (though I recall seeing about quite a few that went much more), so I took the 'h' out because, really, you don't say it anyways. It kinda stuck
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) Fat people The closest I ever came was back in 2000. I was in the first row in right-center field. Two outs and the Sox were down a few. Harold Baines (who was just recently acquired) comes in to pinch hit. He hits what looks to be a grand slam and it's coming directly at me. The ball was caught right against the wall on the track. That is the closest I've ever been, and I didn't even have a legitimate shot of catching it since it was obviously still in play. The next closest play was probably 5 or more rows away, and usually in the next section. Oooh it's story night. In 2000, Torii Hunter hit a home run that landed in a dude's lap who was quite literally in front of me. In 2004, Torii Hunter hit a foul ball that hit my brother in the shoulder. He was naturally distraught and everyone in our section made note to see how he was; meanwhile, I saw the ball land in an empty seat next to me, and I grabbed it. THEN I made sure my brother was alright. I'm pretty sure Hunter signed that ball. Pretty sure Torii Hunter is trying to kill me.
  8. Angriest I've ever been was July 18th, 2010. I was at Target Field. The second most memorable angry moment I can think of was game 3 of the World Series. Konerko GIDP'd and I threw a banana recliner into an old couch. I got done steaming pretty much just in time to see Blum's hit.
  9. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 12:17 AM) Yeah, he had a couple of redeemable outings. But it made no sense to me, and likely never will, why they decided to tender him a contract and not Carrasco, who served a similar role much more effectively. Because at the time Pena didn't serve in that role. They viewed Pena as, at the very least, an actual middle reliever - the competent 5th or 6th guy in the pen that I alluded to in the game thread. Carrasco was really nothing more than a mopup guy. On top of that, there was a bit more inherent value in Pena at the time, considering they had just traded Brandon Allen for him like 6 months prior. Carrasco was brought to the Sox on a MLC and thus there was no real loss in the investment. I also get that the Yankees lineup is pretty good, but allowing 5 straight batters to reach without recording an out when there is the slimmest of slim hopes that the team can still mount some sort of comeback is really inexcusable. You are better off going with Nunez or Carter or Infante.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) But, he is one of Kenny's better moves. It was a thrifty pick up and I think he should be playing more than he is. But I wouldn't put it anywhere near the likes of signing Jermaine Dye, the Thome trade, both Freddy Garcia trades, the Danks trade, the Contreras trade, the Quentin trade...there are quite a few others I'd rank above it too, but those are just the big ones that come to mind.
  11. This is off the topic of the Bears, so sorry I am wondering if the Broncos took Miller instead of Dareus because Miller played in a 4-3 in college and Dareus played in a 3-4. Most NFL teams are supposed to be better and smarter than that and look at each player individually, and Von Miller looks like he's an incredible player either way, but just looking at the decisions Elway has made since he's been put in charge and how much depth they lack, it really wouldn't surprise me. Either way, the Bills were going to come out a winner. There are plenty of rush linebackers left - though obviously none as good as Miller - but not many QBs and you aren't going to get anything close to Dareus in round 2. I'm still hoping for Kaepernick and whoever the next best rush linebacker is in 2/3.
  12. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) I know Bowers has a knee problem but I was rooting for him at 29. When you have Julius Peppers on one side, you don't need a super athlete on the other. You just need someone good enough.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 10:12 PM) Questionable move by NO. Running backs are a dime a dozen nowadays, Ingram is nothing special IMO and already took a lot of wear and tear in college. I think it's fine. Bush isn't really a running back and they can't count on Pierre Thomas much longer. I think I heard them say that the Bears already have their pick in. Has to be Carimi, doesn't it?
  14. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) ok, thanks. i didnt have the money right on pena, i thought he got a raise to about 4 mil in the offseason through arbitration, guess it wasn't nearly that much. at least there's a precident (macD) that they're willing to eat money on a guy wasting a roster spot. i'm almost ready to say put Teahen at 3B just for his bat, but Morel really has nothing left to prove in the minors. I have no problem sending Morel down and going with some sort of Teahen/Vizquel platoon for a while just to increase Morel's confidence and get him on track. The problem I see is that I don't know who you call up. De Aza's really the only one that makes any sense, which honestly might not be a bad idea.
  15. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 09:08 PM) oh no, dont get me wrong wite, DFA pena if they're willing to dump him for nothing, but when was the last time the Sox DFA'd a player making the kind of money he is? MacDougal made less didnt he? if that's an option, then f*** yeah DFA him, or put him on the 60-day Pena is signed for $2 mill. MacDougal was making $2.65 mill in 2009 when they DFA'd him. Even if it's become a punchline at this point, they are all-in, and having a complete waste of space on the roster like Pena is unacceptable. Gray's entire purpose is to eat innings like he has. You need your 5th/6th reliever to be capable of getting outs and being at least competent. Ohman is honestly a perfect 5th or 6th reliever. Pena is not.
  16. QUOTE (Real @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) I know Gray isn't the most talented guy but his mound presense is pretty good, he looks really calm out there like he doesn't give a f*** if you ask me, put him in Pena's place and use Pena if we're down 8 or something after 7 innings Or just DFA Pena. There is absolutely nothing to gain by keeping him on the roster.
  17. I'm a little late to the party because I tuned out a while ago, but I don't think it's too soon to say Pena needs to go. He's absolutely terrible.
  18. The Pouncey brothers have totally redefined how you go about drafting for the interior line.
  19. Defend the pass by rushing the passer, I guess. I like that pick for the Lions in the sense that it will make their team better, but you have to get someone to protect Stafford and you need some people in the secondary that don't suck, don't you?
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) Ponder to the Vikings. Okay now I think they are just randomly pulling QB names out of hats Dalton, Mallet, and Kaepernick can all be first rounders still too. Jesus.
  21. I think that's actually a really good spot for Ponder, assuming the Vikings can retain Rice.
  22. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) I was thinking the same thing earlier tonight. Of course, as soon as I say that, they go back to showing Gabbert. C'mon, let it be a surprise.
  23. Watching on NFL Network, and I like it so much more when they don't show the dude talking before the pick. I like the surprise.
  24. I am already 500 times happier this year than I was with last year. Oh, and Julio Jones needs to be good. 1st, 2nd, 4th this year and a 1st and 4th next year. That just does not seem smart. That is like a perfect trade for Cleveland.
  25. I would strongly suggest everyone enter tonight. I know that I will be there.
