QUOTE (Brian @ May 8, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) And we miss Weaver and Haren in Anaheim. It's about goddamn time that they start missing team's #1's.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2011 -> 04:34 PM) 1. Chone Figgins, there's no argument about that, especially with his contract going forward 2. The RIOT/Theriot 3. Nyjer Morgan 4. Jose Lopez 5. Cesar Izturis 6. Vernon Wells (once again, based on contracts) 7. Gordon Beckham 8. Brandon Inge 9. Omar Infante 10. Miguel Tejada 11. Mark Ellis 12. Alcides Escobar (although I'd still rather have him than Pierre) 13. Raul Ibanez (like Chone, a no doubter) 14. Brendan Ryan 15. Will Venable 16. AJ Pierzynski 17. Alex Rios (before today) 18. James Loney 19. Derek Jeter (based on contract) 20. Rick Ankiel Yeah but you cant really use contracts, he was just talking about s***ty players. So that is going to eliminate you mention due to contract. 2. Theriot isn't pathetic enough. I don't think he's worse, but he is definitely close. 3. Maybe, but Morgan still plays a pretty capable CF. 4. Lopez has been bad, but I think I'd rather take a chance on him opposed to Pierre. 5. Izturis doesn't play everyday anymore. 7. No way am I taking Juan Pierre over Gordon Beckham. Hell last year alone Beckham was a better player than Juan Pierre. 8. Inge hits for power and plays dynamite defense. I'm taking him over Pierre. 9. Infante plays all over the field and is a good contact hitter. I'm taking him over Pierre. 10. I can probably agree with Tejada, but that one is close. 11. Ellis is good defensively, can draw a walk, and hits for a bit of power. I'm taking him over Pierre. 12. If you'd rather have him, then he is either better or more valuable. I think his defense alone will make him better. 13. I think Ibanez will end up being better offensively, and has been the previous however many seasons. 14. I can agree with Brendan Ryan. 15. Venable is a really damn good player. It's not his fault that his numbers suffer as a result of playing his home games at PetCo, and he is good defensively too. 16. Absolutely. 17. No way. 18. Maybe. I had considered him. Plays an even less premium position compared to Pierre and is really, really bad offensively. 20. I can probably agree with Rick Ankiel at this point too. Ankiel has more upside, but swings and misses way too much and isn't great in the field. So out of that list, I see Tejada, Brendan Ryan, AJ Pieryznski, and Rick Ankiel. Maybe a few others, but those are the only for sures. The ones I have are Yuniesky Betancourt, Melky Cabrera, and Ronny Cedeno. And the only reason I did this exercise was because my name was called. I think Pierre is capable but I have no problem trying to replace him and it's certainly possible that he is one of the 10 worst starting players in the league.

Steve, that is pretty much perfect. Thank you.

Mostly because I haven't seen him do any sort of managerial stuff, but I really fear that Cooper would be a terrible manager. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:11 AM) What I love about this stat, is that there have been numerous teams that have come back from being 10 GB in May, June, July, even August. Just not April. I think that's usually because the teams that fall that far behind early in the season are really, really bad teams. So far, this has been a really bad team, but I still think there's too much talent on this team for them to not turn it around to some extent. Honestly though, you have to be hoping that 85 wins gets the division at this point. I think it's very possible that it might. Just have to hope the Twins stay banged up all year.

Not that it's spectacular, but Andruw Jones is 3 for 13 with a homer and 2 walks in his career against Liriano. He would have been a more potent threat than Dunn last night and it would be nice to have someone to play behind Rios in case he got into a funk, which he has done. Looking completely in hindsight, it would have been nice to have him on the roster opposed to Will Ohman. It's wrong because I actually had no problem with the Ohman signing, but it would have been great to have had him back, especially considering their struggles against lefties this year and the fact that it seems like they've already faced a ton of them. That probably bumps Lillibridge from the roster at some point too, but perhaps they would have worked around that, or sent Morel down earlier instead. Whatever. Win. -

QUOTE (flavum @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) Gut feeling---there will be a roster move after this game, either today or tomorrow. Somebody will not be getting on the plane to Seattle tomorrow night. Depending on the outcome of the game and how everything goes, it could be a coach too. At some point, the comfort level is too high with a certain coach and you need to shake it up. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) 2006...that was a great, exciting team up until Iguchi's game winning single heading into the ASB. The 3 games from 06 I can think of that I have very unfond memories for 1) The Iguchi 3-run and then game tying grand slam that they ended up losing to Houston. They'd beaten Houston 6 straight and losing that game where they looked invincible hurt, even if it was a monumental comeback. 2) The Buehrle Cubs game that I referenced above. 3) A Javy start against the Twins...I'm thinking it was in June, because my dad and I were going to Wal-Mart for something down at USD and it was at night, and the Sox had a comfortable lead in the 6th. I told my dad about Javy's 6th inning blowups, we went into Wal-Mart, and came back out just in time to hear Torii Hunter (I think) go yard off of Riske, and it was like Riske's first or second game with the Sox. Javy had gotten into the trouble in the first place.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:15 AM) “Yeah, he was good,” Gordon Beckham said. “And he threw a lot of off-speed stuff. He kept us off-balance. It’s tough, but you got to tip your hat. We swung at some bad pitches. I know I swung at a couple bad ones. We didn’t help ourselves much, but he was very good.” Everybody has been very good. The White Sox have already been shut out four times this season. Well, finally it can’t get any worse. Or is that just being naïve? Doug Padilla/ESPNChicago.com Sounds like Beckham's been taking notes from Harrelson. They drew 6 walks last night and got a runner to 2nd base. And Edwin Jackson and Matt Thornton both threw the ball really well. It can get a lot worse.

To be serious, which is a complete 180 from last night (except for that Conte post I made to Milkman, not sure what I was doing there), this team got no hit last night. That really, really sucks. And I mean that on as many levels as possible...the players sucked, it sucked watching it, and quite frankly, it was a sucky no-hitter...Liriano looked terrible until the 7th, and even then he didn't look great. This is absolutely the most important game of the season thus far. The no-hitter either serves as a wake up call and they start to show signs of life, perhaps even winning a few games, or it serves as the nail in the coffin and they will continue to bury themselves as they start this west coast swing. Personally, I could care less either way. I'm going down for graduation today, and I am going to get torn the f*** up. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 4, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) Eventually someone's going to kill a bystander while DUI and that'll shake things loose. I doubt it. It wasn't enough that Josh Hancock killed himself because of a DUI, or that Nick Adenhart was killed because of a DUI. That player, whoever it will inevitably be, will face the repercussions of the law and Selig or the next guy in line will say that the law has done enough.

I just realized that Badger really does not like Bobak sausage. In fact, he hates it. BOYCOTT BOBAK...IT'LL GIVE YOU THE RUNS (Sox should eat lots of Bobak sausage)

QUOTE (T R U @ May 4, 2011 -> 01:39 AM) relax greg, we hadn't been no hit in like 20 years.. the only reason we got not hit tonight is because Lillibridge didn't get an AB.. as soon as Beckham gets sent down to A ball and we get Lilli in there at 2B for the rest of the year this teams fortunes will change, guaranteed.. 2006 really, really sucked They were easily the most dominant team in the league in the first half. But Contreras had the sciatica injury, and then Javy became infamous for his 6th inning blowups. Freddy pitched terrible from like June through August. It looked like they'd be OK because Buehrle was cruising in the first half, and then he got destroyed against the Cubs and it just killed any shred of confidence he had the rest of the season. Garland was really the anchor of that rotation for like a month and a half period, and he was still a 4.50 ERA pitcher. The bullpen went to absolute s*** (though Williams did what he could...Thornton was actually a breath of fresh air that year). It all looked like it would work out because they'd only have to play slightly above .500 ball the rest of the way and that was something the offense could take care of, and they'd end up in the playoffs as at least a wild card. But then THAT went to hell and they couldn't hit anything, and then the Twins played like .750 ball for like a 4 month period and ended up moving past both the Tigers and the Sox. I've never seen a team completely implode within itself quite like that. It was just a huge blow. The previous year, everything worked out in the end and they caught all the breaks; that 2006 team was the exact opposite.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ May 3, 2011 -> 11:46 PM) If the clowns he faces tomorrow hit him then yeah, he should probably voluntarily step down from his role as a starter in the Twins rotation, and perhaps retire. Luckily for him, the Sox lineup is about as threatening as an invalid who walks funny and whistles to communicate. I think he'll be just fine. Not if Brent Lillibridge is in the lineup. Then it will be feared. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 3, 2011 -> 11:39 PM) Stan Conte? Isn't that the steroids guy? Actually, quite the opposite. He was completely opposed to steroids. http://dodgers.scout.com/2/714732.html

Also, who knew Danny could shred like that? You may say that Bob Saget's jokes suck, but goddamn could he play a guitar.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 3, 2011 -> 11:28 PM) Fans should give a standing ovation if and when the Sox get their first hit off the Twins this game/season. Oh they will. Hopefully it's not in July! and I am deathly serious about that too
