  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2011 -> 03:06 AM) CLE (2) LAD (3) AT TEXAS (3) AT TORONTO (4) AT BOSTON (3) DET (3) What is getting easy about that schedule? We've played horribly against Texas and Toronto the last half-decade...Cleveland's in first place and has the 2nd or 3rd best record in all of baseball, winning 1/3 in Boston is challenging enough and then we haven't beaten Detroit in months. I guess you must have meant 3 weeks from now when we finally get the Mariners at home. That's the first "easy" team in sight, and considering our home record, and that we'll probably face either Pineda or Felix, a sweep isn't something I'd be counting on. OPTIMISTICALLY, I'm HOPING they can be at 5 games below .500 after this aforementioned stretch of games. Compare that to 3 vs Oak, 3 vs ANA, 4 @ Tampa, 3 @ Det, and 4 @ NYY. Or the entire west coast swing, which has been brutal on this team before. I will gladly take Cleveland, Los Angeles, Texas, Toronto, Boston, and Detroit over that. And from there, it gets much, much easier, along with the Sox having a few more offdays as well.
  2. I want to see what he can do as a ROOGY, but that's about it. He's been bad this year but has a career OPSa vs RHP of .705.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:00 AM) Unless the Sox DON'T take Quentin back and use that $7-8M on a free agent LF like David DeJesus or even Grady Sizemore if Kenny wasts to take a chance on his health. Or of course, some sort of trade. Of course, both DeJesus and Sizemore have proven to be pretty injury prone in the past too. Sizemore is obvious, but DeJesus has only played 140 games twice in his career. If Quentin continues his current pace and remains healthy, it just doesn't make sense to get rid of him. Hell, Quentin is at a 0.5 UZR in RF this year. I think that's probably a bit higher than it should be, but it does go to show that when he's healthy, he isn't a terrible fielding outfielder. As stupid as it sounds, a guy I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sox inquire about next year, if Morel's struggles were to continue all year, would be Placido Polanco.
  4. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:22 AM) McPherson will have to be DFA'd and will not clear waivers, thus losing depth at AAA. So sign Minnie Minoso. Depth at AAA is not hard to find.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:39 AM) That will be an interesting decision on Quentin. Not really, he'll probably get a raise to around $7-8 million and if he continues to hit anything like he has this year while remaining healthy, it's a no brainer. The problem becomes what the Sox do at leadoff next year, because they seem unwilling to consider other possibilities other than a scrappy singles hitter (Lillibridge the behemoth notwithstanding). Barring something ridiculous, Viciedo should be the opening day left fielder next year and they won't have a traditional leadoff hitter whatsoever anywhere on the roster.
  6. Just saw Morel's homer now. He looked like he had a little bit of confidence in that swing, which is a good sign. Hopefully he starts busting out of his shell a little bit and is a bit more aggressive at the plate.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 18, 2011 -> 12:18 AM) With all of the competition, Konerko would have a very hard time getting in. Nobody on the Sox will get voted onto the team and with their terrible record, it's likely that only one player will be chosen. Again, that would make it hard for Konerko. Santos is the easy and clear choice at this point. I hate to say it, because it's basically company line, but that's a terrible record right now. And considering that they have been playing better recently and the schedule getting easier in the coming weeks, I would venture to guess that they'll be around or above .500 at the time of the All-Star Break. I say that with a caveat of course, because the 2007 Sox were actually 24-25 at the end of May and interleague play was their undoing, as they went 4-14 against the NL that year. The Cubs and Phillies were good teams, but the Marlins, Astros, and Pirates were not, and they went 3-6 against those 3.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 17, 2011 -> 11:28 PM) So Quentin and Danks both have 1 more year of team control? Correct.
  9. 6 walks in 55 ABs is like a 70 walk pace over the course of a full season.
  10. Quentin isn't a free agent. Buehrle and Jackson are likely to be Type B free agents, and odds are very good that the Sox will offer arbitration to both of them.
  11. LeBron James is in the Eastern Conference Finals, BUT HEY, CLEVELAND GOT THE #1 (and #4) PICKS. ATLEAST THEY WON SOMETHING LEBRON! /aware that LeBron can still win it all
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) I guess I am just taking all the numbers a little too literally, but when you say that a player is worth his 5 year, $65M contract in one season, I can't help but question how off base that sounds IMO. It's more of a statistical anomaly through small sample size. He may end up having an OPS+ of 200, but there's no way he ends up with 1.300+ OPS this year. He's not quite that good.
  13. It's been a while since I've seen former players get as emotional as a few former members of the Twins did today. It's a big loss as Killebrew had been a great advisor with the Twins and a great ambassador of the game too. Rest in peace Harmon.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) Considering how few teams seem willing to pay Pujols $30 million, I don't see how Bautista would definitely get that much. I'm pretty sure teams are and will be willing to give Pujols $30 million. They will just think twice about giving it to him over 10 years.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2011 -> 11:44 AM) Because the highest paid player in baseball makes $32 million, which is less than half of Bautista's "value". No one would even pay Bautista $30 million right now if he was a FA, how could he be worth over double that? They would be silly not to pay him $30 million. The numbers he is putting up are comparable to Bonds and Pujols. He is really f'ing good.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 16, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) lol@Jose Bautista's .500 ISO, .572 wOBA and 4.0 WAR. He's been the complete opposite of Juan Pierre, Brent Morel, Adam Dunn, Alex Rios, Mark Teahen, f*** it, any White Sox player not named Paul Konerko. He is amazing
  17. The Heat apologists are hilarious. "This is what the Heat need to do if they are going to win game 2 and then take the series." Well, there are certain things that I would need to do to get both Blake Lively and Meagan Good into bed - it doesn't mean that any of those things can actually happen. The one I love the most is talking about how the Heat need to rebound better. Of course they do. Now tell me- how are they going to do it? "duuuuuuhhhhh ummmmmmmmmmmm durrrrrr" f***ing Chris Broussard is the worst of them all too. He's so loud and annoying.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 16, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) Pineda with 6 swinging Ks. And this Twins team is terrible. Figures the year they fall off the map is the same year we have our worst year since '07. They are not healthy, but no, they don't look good at all. Really makes you wonder how they won the division 6 of the last 9 years. I'm still waiting for them to get healthy and turn it around. When healthy, they are a good team, but the team they are fielding now is legitimately THAT bad.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) I've never seen a system so devoid of starting pitching prospects in my life. It's like Rienzo and Petricka right now. That should be their target early in the draft.
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 15, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) HOLY s***. I just looked. Those are unwordly. I would honestly promote him right the f*** now and dump Tony Pena's lame ass. Yes, straight to the big leagues. He's also facing, for the most part, very undisciplined but talented hitters in AA. He needs a stop in AAA before I would promote him, especially since I've read his fastball is only OK. Dewon Day had a K/9 of 17.3 over 25 innings at AA, and he was and still is garbage. I don't promote Remenowsky without first seeing him in AAA.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 15, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) I know Spolstra was saying you have to move the ball against this Bulls team to be effective and he's right. The problem is, his team is more of a straight up ISO/one on one. You can't do that against this defense who is excellent in weak side help and even one on one. I haven't seen this defense play that well this year. Just straight aggressive in closing in, straight up, covering the passing lanes, diving for loose change, etc. The Heat bench is not good enough to go toe to toe with the Bulls bench. I don't think that's that bold of a statement. Really, there is no bench that is good enough to go toe to toe with the Bulls'. What's better is how well the Bulls bench has played against Miami both in the regular season and tonight. The Heat have the advantage in star power/talent - whatever you want to call it. But as was shown tonight, they have superior depth, superior size, and far superior coaching. I think Miami is going to have to shove a horseshoe up their own ass if they want to win this series.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ May 15, 2011 -> 09:50 PM) The rainouts in Cleveland this weekend push Masterson back to us. Boo. Mon: Lewis vs Jackson Tue: Harrison vs Danks Wed: Masterson vs Peavy Thu: Carmona vs Humber Fri: Lilly vs Floyd Sat: Garland vs Buehrle Sun: Kuroda vs Jackson Whatever, he's no better than Cahill. So long as Pierre isn't in the lineup, GIDPing and getting picked off, they'll be fine.
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 15, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) If Teahen does in fact go on the DL, we need to find some way to replace Pierre in the lineup with Viciedo. I have a very simple solution for that. You put Viciedo into the lineup in LF. Leadoff Vizquel...not like he's going to be worse than Pierre anyways.
  24. Seriously, if the Bulls bring that type of effort 7 more times, they're going to win it all. The Heat simply haven't seen the size nor the quickness nor the depth that the Bulls can bring. I don't think they can hang.
