  1. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) Too bad, I don't see Teahen's name among the cuts. You aren't going to
  2. My youth Michael Jordan Flat-top hair (it has started)
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) That's not a good example. Of course you don't call pitches differently. Well, unless the game is a complete route. At which point even the coaches want the zone bigger on both sides. However, do you want to call a balk with the winning run on 3rd for some minor violation that doesn't affect the baserunner? That's the judgment I'm talking about. As an official, I would say that's poor judgment to balk that run in. It does happen in games all the time, across every sport. It happens in overtime of NHL playoff games. You try to make the calls that effect scoring plays or things that are must-calls (high sticks), and let the rest go. You don't want to give one team a huge advantage when that advantage wasn't earned and the act by the other team didn't hurt anything. The player was a complete dumbass for putting the official in a position to make that call. But put it this way, had their been no foul called, I don't think the talk would have been "how could he not call a foul?!?!? Butler should have won on free throws?!?!?!" I HIGHLY doubt this. No one would have talked about it because there was no way anything was coming out of that play. They play OT, and that's that. Note I am only talking about the last call. I completely agree 2nd to last foul had to be made. To me the difference between the two plays is significant. Spot on.
  4. Got another job interview...all these applications are finally starting to pay off, because this one is legitimate. I will be interviewing to be a salesman at a furniture store. Not sexy, but it's better than a part-time gig (which I did get, just have to fill out some paperwork, and it's a nice fallback option). My question is how should I prepare for the interview? I'm assuming they'll ask about my experience, so I'll tell them about any that I have, which is very little, and that there will be some sort of demonstration where I have to sell some fake furniture, but is there anything else I should be considering?
  5. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) So does KW just try to dump Teahen now (with eating salary)? hes the 26th man making 5M... No Assume 12 pitchers, which leaves 13 spots for hitters C - Pierzynski 1B - Konerko 2B - Beckham 3B - Morel SS - Ramirez LF - Pierre CF - Rios RF - Quentin DH - Dunn Castro - C Vizquel - 2B, 3B, SS Teahen - 3B, 1B, LF, RF Milledge - LF, CF, RF oh, and I have no doubt Williams has been trying to dump Teahen for about 5 months now. It's rather difficult to dump a $5 million player who doesn't play good defense anywhere and doesn't have a good enough bat to justify playing in the outfield, at 1B, or at DH. And teams don't intentionally pay $5 million for bench players unless that is a really, really good bench player.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) Speaking of Freddy...it doesn't look like he'll make the Yankees. http://www.realgmbaseball.com/src_wiretap_...o_make_yankees/ Bring him back!
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) lol. I like how you added the 'AND' do not have a good team. I was about to ask if you were crazy. Our pitching depth is thinner than an Olsen twin. Yes it is and that's why I threw the caveat in there. But there's no way in hell I'm taking on Oliver Perez right now. He can't help the major league team in his current state, and having him pitch in the minors allows you one fewer young player to throw (not that they'd be any good, just that you need them to throw if you're ever going to find out). He seems like a 2 year project, and that doesn't seem to be economically viable.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 08:09 AM) The director of officiating they had on TV said that a point of emphasis this year was to call the whole game by the same rules, no matter what the situation or time of the game. If it's a foul, then it's a foul no matter what. So if a team was winning by 25 and there was little time left on the clock, they would still call every single foul? Unless the goal of the player was to foul the other player, I don't think so.
  9. I want nothing to do with Oliver Perez. Besides that, if he signs a minor league contract, and goes down to the minor leagues, he doesn't get to work with Cooper. And if he's on the major league roster working with Cooper, well then that's a huge waste of a roster spot. I let Oliver Perez do whatever he wants to, but I am not going to sign him to pitch anywhere in my organization unless I am totally deprived of pitching talent AND do not have a good team. There's no need for a good team to try and mess around with Oliver Perez at this point.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) The tendonitits is most likely a result of everything being weak from the layoff after the surgery and the strength building. This is also the set back I'm sure the medical team said was coming because they have no idea how soon the strength would return. It's something that they were expecting in one from or another. It was probably made worse by pitching in such a weakened state the other day. Even if he misses a start or two it's the mid to late April return which is why everyone was predicting the later return. Everything you post always makes me feel better about the situation.
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 04:01 PM) There is a prediction thread that wite started still on the first page.. just sayin. YEAH although it is not the "official" predictions thread
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 02:21 AM) Good choice. Less of an excuse for the Sox next season if they plan on continuing to stifle his progress by putting him back in the bullpen. Jesus dude, give it up, the White Sox are not going to put Thornton in the rotation, no matter how much you complain about it.
  13. QUOTE (shakes @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Honestly, Pena is worth much more than Allen, and most teams know it. Like it or not, the Sox won that trade. Allen is AAA fodder and the Sox let him go and got value for him at he right time. Allen is about 5th on the depth chart and a year a way from being nothing. Pena isn't a stud, but he is worth more than Brandon Allen. Jesus, if Brandon Allen is AAA fodder at 25 years old, I hate to think about what my future holds. I really didn't think the deal was that bad to begin with and am not a huge fan of Brandon Allen, but being realistic here, Brandon Allen is simply not AAA fodder at this point in his career. He's still got plenty of time to make it onto a major league roster.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) Is that because Thornton has been better or because Thornton has pitched in higher leverage situations? WAR only calculates value, so it's because Thornton has been better and/or Thornton has pitched more than Soria. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) I don't like WAR when it comes to relievers. Sean Marshall had a higher WAR than Rivera last year. Sample size is too small. I don't even know what the criteria would be. But if he can exceed Soria in his first year as the full-time closer that would be rather awesome. WPA works too, but as I understand it, that will be skewed upwards towards closers because outs late in the game will increase your odds of winning a game exponentially more than those in the 7th and 8th innings. Personally, I use some type of combination of WHIP, K/9, WAR, WPA, ERA, and whatever else I feel like. All I know is that Mariano Rivera is the best reliever in the game and, unless someone can think of someone else, the best reliever in the *history* of the game.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) wow x2
  16. Throw out the wackiest of the wacky, or the most serious of the serious. My serious prediction is that Jake Peavy is the White Sox best starter this year. My wacky prediction is that Chris Sale closes out the final game of the 2011 World Series, and opens 2012 as the 5th starter (because this organization is not dumb).
  17. Been playing The Show recently. I like it enough that it alone is probably worth getting a PS3 at some point. It's ridiculously good.
  18. QUOTE (3E8 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) Several SABRs aren't buying into it either. Quentin's BABIP against LHP is To suggest that a BABIP of less than .200 is normal would be criminal unless it was me that was hitting, but Quentin's BABIP has never, ever been good. For his career, it's only at .251, which is sad in itself. With regards to the BABIP, some of it is undoubtedly due to him being unlucky. However, for his career, he's hit about 45% of his balls in play for fly balls, and that increases against lefties to about 50%. As you know, flyballs tend to deliver more extra base hits (and in quite a few home runs, depending on how line drives are determined and the 0.000001% of inside the park home runs on ground balls) but they create more outs as well. As such, Quentin's BABIP is going to be lower than normal as it is. He's also hit about 15% of his flyballs out of the park in his career, which is extremely impressive and perhaps a bit lucky too. I also think his BB% against lefties may be some of the left handers doing themselves. Generally Ozzie Guillen has sets his lineups to alternate handedness, so it's likely that quite a few of the times Quentin has faced a lefty that a left handed hitter has been hitting behind him, and thus the pitcher is pitching around or flat out walking him to get to the next hitter. Some of it is likely also the fact that Quentin sees the ball better, but that doesn't necessarily mean he hits them better. It's hard to say. I'm sure some of it is, but it's hard to ignore that large of a sample size. Hopefully he turns it around and has a BABIP of around .300 this year, because he'd be an MVP candidate.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 04:32 PM) Man, that would have been sweeeet to draft a starting pitcher w/ our 1st pick last year. They did. It just so happens that he's going to be pitching out of the bullpen this year.
  20. I'm taking Lackey before I take Burnett.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 08:18 AM) I'd be content with that. .672 OPS, .324 OBP from Getz his first year, couple weeks where he was about the only guy hitting anything. I'm more worried about an Andersonian .290 OBP, or an Andersonian .604 OPS/.280 OBP first half that causes Ozzie to decide to bench him randomly. Throughout his career, Brent Morel has shown a better strikeout rate, ability to hit for average, and work ethic than Brian Anderson ever did. I really don't think there's anything to fear. He's not going to be Superman, but considering he's hitting 9th, that's just fine so long as he works the leather.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 03:43 AM) With the way Milledge is playing I wonder how many AB can they realistically find for Teahen.. Well considering Milledge hits lefties far better than he hits righties, and Teahen hits righties far better than he hits lefties, I would say that they won't affect each other's playing time too much either way. Teahen fills in at 3B, 1B, LF, RF, DH, and pinch hitting when necessary, and Milledge fills in at LF, CF, and RF when necessary. There will be plenty of ABs for both, if that is in fact the way the team looks in 2 weeks.
  23. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 02:13 AM) I'd counter this by saying he's probably still in the bottom third of starting PG's in the league when it comes to 1 on 1 defense. However, in Thibodeau's defensive system, in which interior defense is such a key element, it's not going to be a dealbreaker if the opposition beat Rose off the dribble, because you've got the likes of Noah and Asik waiting inside. Kind of like Howard with the Magic really (when you look at someone like Nelson). That's why I'd argue Howard is a real MVP candidate because no-one impacts both ends of the court as much as he does in the NBA (but that's an argument for another time). The article lost posted suggests otherwise.
