  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) Click the area where it shows how long ago the tweet posted (i.e., "2 minutes ago") and it will bring up just that individual tweet. You can then use that url.
  2. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) Why would we do that? You do that for clubhouse cancers or trading bad contracts at positions you don't need for contracts at positions you do need. Besides, he's not getting anywhere NEAR those guy's numbers; his contract isn't THAT bad His contract is pretty bad. $10+ mill over the next two years for a bad offensive and defensive player. He has value as a left handed bat off the bench. At least Carlos Silva can (generally) give you 180 innings of better than replacement level pitching and Milton Bradley has been a monster offensively before. There really is no upside with Teahen at all.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) I've said it before... normally if the White Sox acquired an overpaid, oft-injured guy who couldn't stay on the field his first 1.5 seasons as we barely miss the playoffs, well, I'd grow to dislike him a tad. I f*cking love Jake Peavy. I love his honesty, I love his will to compete, and I hope he can stay healthy and show again that he is definitely a world-class pitcher. I don't recall any member of the White Sox ever having this desire or motivation to win. For years and years we always talked about how the Sox lacked that killer instinct, but Peavy seems to bring that extra "it." If he is healthy all year, the White Sox are going to win a lot of games.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) I think with Matt, the rule probably is that very few guys who face him regularly have regular success. He's hard to pick up from whatever side, so your best bet is to go up there, guess where the fastball will be, and try to hit it if you can pick it up. That means some guys will come up against him a few times and have success (Thome) but if you face him 10+ times, your numbers will start to even out. That's exactly it. It's swing hard and pray you connect. Thome is really the only guy I can think of that has connected well.
  5. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) While the main point (reliance on a single pitch) may be true, it's not like the league (and especially the AL Central) haven't been able to prepare for him by now. Other than some mental problem pitching the ninth, his history of success as a late inning reliever absolutely points to Thorton's ability to be successful as a closer. A one-pitch pitcher should be just as easy to hit in the 8th as in the 9th. Whether or not you (generic you, not you in particular Wite) believe that someone "earned" the spot or is "owed" the spot, there's no doubt that Thornton has proven to be the best reliever on the Sox and one of the better ones in baseball. As other posters have said, the real debate is where is Thorton's value the highest to the Sox - coming in at the tough spots or 9th inning specialist. My hope is that the other bullpen options prove to be good enough that Thornton can be a shut-down, we-don't-want-to-face-that-guy-in-the-ninth closer. Agreed on all accounts.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) In his first 3 full seasons, Joe Crede put up OPS of .741, .717, and .756, in a bigger offense era. And he also showed signs of improvement throughout that, which was a qualifier I included for Morel. Upon initially receiving the starting job, Crede put up an .826 OPS over the final two months of the 2002 season. His defense, which was only OK upon coming up, was continually getting better and better. And he actually had a pretty good offensive year in 2005, but he two severe slumps in it, and you can actually just see it by looking at his monthly statistics. In April, June, July, and September, his OPS was .800+ (and like 1.100+ in September). In May and August, his OPS's were .496 and .320. Thus, there are signs of improvement in that season as well. If Brent Morel is putting up OPS's of .800+ for 4 of the 6 months of the year come next year or two years from now, that's perfectly acceptable. If you want to adjust and say he's only putting up .775+ OPS's during those months, that's fine too. But if he hasn't done anything to show that he's improved as a hitter in 2-3 years, he is not going to be with the White Sox organization (assuming that they are still spending and trying to compete of course).
  7. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 06:51 AM) Inge is an above average 3B when all things are considered. If Morell ends up having years at the plate like Inge I'll be both shocked and thrilled. Really? Because this would suggest that he's been one of the worst 3Bman in the league over the past 3 years. And no, I hadn't seen that upon making my comment. Brandon Inge is not a very good hitter. He's hit for quite a bit of power at times, but it's been at the expense of his average and plate discipline. From everything I've seen, he's always been a phenomenal defender at 3B too, though the numbers feel he's only good. I would have no problem if Morel did that. But if he seriously is putting up OPS's ranging anywhere from .675-.725 2-3 years from now from 3B with no signs of any real improvement, he will be doing it for another organization because the White Sox won't allow it. On top of that, as was mentioned previously, Morel and Inge are completely different hitters. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see both players put up an OPS of .700 this season. It would surprise me much more if Morel did it with a surprising amount of power or if Inge did it with an increase in his average. Their games' are not very similar.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) Hinting at the UK a bit? lol Ha, yeah I think so. Having done no research, it would seem to me that there are quite a few more prestigious schools compared to Ireland.
  9. Would you absolutely have to live in Ireland, or could you go nearby, like one island over, and then be close enough to Ireland that you could spend some time there when you get some down time? You always want to keep your options open just in case something comes up.
  10. I have my concerns about Thornton as the full-time closer due to his reliance upon one pitch (a pretty straight fastball that comes in at about 99 and probably looks like it comes in at 103) and I think if teams game planned for him to be the full-time closer, which they never really did before, he may face a few more struggles. All that being said, I have no problems if and when he is named closer and still think he will be extremely successful.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) I'm just posting info to all those that were dazzled by his season last year. He's still young and inexperienced in the majors. He will probably have some struggles but he's got an electric arm. He needs to improve his command a bit before the start of the season, but he has two weeks to do so. He'll be fine.
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) If she has boys coming over to my house and looking at porn on my computer thats an even bigger problem. Which is all the more reason to talk to her about it. It's not an easy conversation but it's absolutely necessary.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) "With three runs allowed in the fifth inning of Monday's 7-6 loss to the Padres at Camelback Ranch, Chris Sale's Cactus League ERA rose to 7.36 over just 7 1/3 innings. And manager Ozzie Guillen wants him to work on his location during his next side session." Sounds like closer material to me. Considering the White Sox ultimate goal for Chris Sale, and what they want him to do this year - ie, get major league hitters out - it would make sense for him to work on his secondary pitches. Taking his ERA over a 7.1 IP sample size is a bit ridiculous.
  14. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) He turned 27 this January. This is a huge year for him. Not a lot of Dennis Werths out there. I think Dennis Werth is probably a better comparison than Jayson. Don't think there are any real huge years for him from this point forward with regards to development. Either the Sox give him a shot in the next year or two, or the club DFA's him and gives him his outright release, and he finds a better situation for himself. He's done enough in the minors that he deserves a shot at working his way onto a major league bench, I just don't know that it will be with the White Sox. I don't think it will be.
  15. I have seen a couple times where people mention that if you hit "F5" on a webpage, certain actions will happen (in Facebook, you go back to the old photo viewer, in YouTube, you sometimes don't see an advertisement). That stuff is all true. What I find funny is that people seriously don't realize that all that does is reload the page. Like they think it's some magical action that happens, when all you are quite literally doing is the same as hitting the reload button.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) More annoying than the real Dick Vitale? Yes. Seriously. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 07:06 PM) I find most SNL actors to be much funnier outside of SNL. Hot Rod, Portlandia, and all the smaller roles that the actors play are much funnier than what they put out in SNL. I find that to be true too, I think it just comes with having the time to act out their roles, there's less of a time crunch, and that the actual comedy itself translates better to movies and something in a bit more of a controlled setting than live TV.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) I think Morel will become Brandon Inge He better be a better hitter than that, otherwise he won't last.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 03:18 PM) If Flowers could K 25% of the time over a full season, that's 150 K's in a major league season. He'd probably effectively be a right handed, catching, Adam Dunn at that level. His problem is that he's on pace to be a 250 k player, and that guy hits under .200. The difference between 35% and 25% is the difference between being a big league starter and being a career minor leaguer for a guy like him. If he could be Rod Barajas as this point, you'd probably take it. A right handed Adam Dunn is a bit of a stretch.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) There's a reasonable chance Quentin gets non-tendered this season if he's any worse than he was last year. If he comes out and rakes the ball...Quentin/Rios/Viciedo next year might not be the best defensive OF in history, but it could be one of the best offensive OF's in the game. Knowing Ozzie, I really doubt that Viciedo would take over RF with Quentin moving to LF. He gives precedent to the veteran and I would imagine that Viciedo plays LF. Of course, that's if Quentin is with the Sox tomorrow. I tend to doubt it, but maybe he has a great year.
  20. No surprises. Gartrell seemed to be having a pretty good camp but I don't think he ever had a chance to make the roster. He'll get his chance at some point in the near future.

Forte isn't on SNL anymore. And while I have been a pretty big fan of Lonely Island stuff, Samberg's representation of Dick Vitale was probably the most annoying thing I have ever seen on TV. There have been certain skits over the past couple years that I have enjoyed, but they are few and far in between, and there's no way I'm going to wade through an hour of bulls*** to find a single gold nugget.
  23. The word project barely begins to describe Shane Lindsay. He's had 24.2 innings at AAA. He's walked 33 in that time. For him to become an effective MLB pitcher, he has to cut his career walk rate approximately in half. Perhaps there is something there, but you aren't going to see it until next year at the very earliest, and that will likely be with a different organization.
  24. QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) For a player of Viciedo´s speed and athletic ability which corner is harder to play and patrol? Left or Right? I mean he has come into ST in far better shape than previous years and has a supposed cannon for an arm. What thinks ye? In a neutral environment, the corners are equal with left field being slightly busier than right field due to the increased number of right handed hitters in the league. There are preferences though. You want your right fielder to have a stronger arm to keep runners from going 1st to 3rd, so that's where the Sox want Viciedo to play. And due to the increased number of flyballs, you would generally prefer your LFer to have good range, but first and foremost you want him to be a good offensive player.
  25. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) I believe Teahan is being showcased, but if he shows enouhg maybe the Sox will keep him. Really boils down to what yopu can get for him other than unload his contract. Teahan's erros seem to be throwing errors. What does that mean? Footwork or grip on the ball or arm angle? I haven't seen a lot of ST TV games with Teahan in there to say. I do see Morel making some real fine plays though. If the White Sox could simply unload his contract, they would have done it in November. That has immense value in itself. With regards to his throwing inaccuracy, it's possible that he simply just does not throw very accurately. Perhaps thinking while he's throwing or just doesn't have a consistent release point or whatever else. It happens.
