  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) Harris has always been a "plus" offensive player, but you give up a ton on defense. It's something that Bill Smith will have to consider because of the erratic starting pitching from Baker and Liriano...actually, I think they used Harris at 2B for Casilla and Buscher for Crede at 3B in one of the games last night. Harris has played SS, 3B and 2B but he's kind of like DeRosa in that he's the master of none. Gil Meche is continuing to pitch impressively, and Reyes was able to get out of a bases-loaded situation with no outs, but he had an elevated pitch count and also walked 4 batters in 6 IP. Will be interesting to see what happens with DET/KC and Minnesota at Cleveland this weekend. Of course, the Blue Jays have the best record in the AL, Halladay is matched with Contreras and the M's haven't been slouches either. Rumor that Cliff Lee will be made available to the highest bidder if the Indians fall further back in the first 2-3 months (cbssportsline.com). He has one more year left on his contract. The Cubs' designated Luis Vizcaino for assigment. KW and Ozzie might be interested, possibly. That's why it is merely a rumor. I won't pay attention to the standings until Memorial Day.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) If we really want to be overly long term about things...let's assume that D2: the mighty Danks projects as a CF. Or Shelby (hell, where does he usually play? No idea). Alexei is under contract for 3 more years. Beckham, we'd control for 6-7 starting whenever he came up. We're going to need to either extend Alexei or find a replacement for him before we're going to need to find one for Beckham, and we've got extra guys who pencil out to play CF already in the organization. and that's assuming that Brian Anderson doesn't become a mainstay in CF.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) I'd love him here. Everytime he touches the ball, he has the chance to take it for 6. People say we don't need another Hester. I ask you- really? We don't need another guy with world class speed with ridiculous talent, right? In some sense, no, because the Bears need a legitimate wide receiver. Sure, it's cool to have that Hester or Harvin type guy, but if they can't run routes and have bad hands, then you are just ignoring a problem that still persists. Hester has gotten better at that, but it's worth considering. Harvin came out of a spread offense, so he's going to be raw as is and might be limited to like 4th WR and returning this year, with the possibility of some wild cat thrown in.
  4. seriously, where is the option that just say, no, I'm not concerned
  5. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) couldn't agree more... don't care that the Bears don't have a 1st rd pick. I can't wait until it starts and I will probably watch it all day on saturday. I have a pretty big obligation, but I'm going to watch as much of it as I can. I want to atleast stick around until atleast the Bills pick, and if I can, until Mark Sanchez goes. The Bills might pick after that, so it'll be win-win.
  6. anyone get as jacked about the draft every year as me? Cuz right now, I can't wait for it to start
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) Certainly he's better than Egbert. It's debatable, but I tend to doubt it. Humber has had one good season in his professional career, 2006, when he was good in high A and AA. He's been mediocre in AAA and actually regressed from 2007 to 2008.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 12:45 AM) I just can't imagine what else that BA would expect in that situation from Ray BUT a fastball. Surely, every player in baseball would be an All-Star if they had only one type of pitch thrown against them and they didn't actually have to think or make adjustments. It was like Balfour and Cabrera last year...here's a heater coming, I'll through it right over the heart of the plate at 96-97, but I still don't think you're going to make any contact. That was just about getting overwhelmed/overmatched. If you're "in-between," you have to look for the FB first and attack that pitch when you get it. And Anderson still hasn't driven in a run with RISP (2nd and 3rd and one out)...maybe if we take a 4-2 lead instead of 3-2, the game turns out differently. Of course, Contreras just hasn't had his control. There were MANY things that went wrong tonight, and surely we'll be talking about Josh Fields (lack of power, K's, big swing) if he continues his current tailspin. It's Brian Anderson's fault that the score wasn't 4-2 instead of 3-2, yet Getz gets hit by a pitch (productive, but it doesn't bring a run in), Fields flew out with a runner on 2nd and Quentin grounded out with a runner on 3rd. Those three get essentially a free pass though. Why nit pick? Atleast Anderson gave the Sox the lead. It's not his fault that Contreras sucked or that the bullpen gave up like 5 more runs.
  9. took one game for someone to jump on him. Knew that was to be expected. and to clarify as to why I did not give Dewayne Wise more than one game - it's because Dewayne Wise has been a bad minor league player and an absolutely horrendous major league player, and he's 31. Anderson is atleast younger, has good minor league numbers, and plays superb defense. All I am saying....is give BA a chance.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) That's surprising. Would claiming him have required that he be on the MLB roster? I believe he was out of options so, yes.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) Tough break for MacDougal getting the bad case of the bug, but Jeremy Affeltdt? Wow. Jeremy Affeldt has actually been a pretty damn good reliever the past two seasons.
  12. Remember when Ryan Sweeney had a .967 OPS like 3 games into the season? That's down to .635. It's early, but it's also worth pointing out because I like pointing that kind of stuff out.
  13. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 12:26 AM) If we had 9 Jim Thomes on our ball club, I don't know that we would be that good. They would go 8-32 against lefties and 84-38 against righties.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Here's a statistic for you. AT-BATS where the count reaches 2 strikes (0-2, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2)....performance from 2006-2008. Brian Anderson 142 K's/253 chances=57% chance of a strikeout Josh Fields 142 K's/233 chances=61% chance of a strikeout Does that mean that Brian Anderson is a better hitter than Josh Fields? no it means he strikes out less than Josh Fields, but only slightly, when the count reaches two strikes
  15. I think Viciedo is probably struggling because he's seeing some of the best raw stuff he's ever seen in his entire life for the first time. Give him some time, and if he doesn't come around, drop him to W-S and see what happens there. Dude's still crazy young, and even if he's not ready until 2011, he'd still only be 22 years old (with only 2 years left on his contract, which is a problem, but still)
  16. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) haha, well played. If Brian accepts the invite, maybe I'll make it an offical event for all the fanboys. Charge admission and donate the proceeds to White Sox charities. Instead of debating Brians defensive skills, ya'll could debate his real "skills". Think about, could be glorious. You know I'd be down for that. That would be something on the bucket list that would be crossed off.
  17. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) It actually has happened once, 1906. that turned out wonderfully
  18. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) Come one fanboy, everyone knows neither of us are objective when it comes to Mr. Anderson. To make amends I invite Brian over, he can doink my cousin. It's not my fault that Brian Anderson is a 40 homer player sitting on the bench!
  19. If Jermaine Dye actually played good defense all-around, his arm would be good. As it is, he is bad out there though he makes some spectacular plays from time to time that a lot of right fielders make look easy.
  20. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Do you hear that in the distance Brian? Yes, it's Lillibridge and his little footsteps of doom, he's comin for you. So you better keep on playing well Brian, or you will find yourself trampled with Brent's footprints making a path on your back. You have been warned. I take it Brian Anderson threw a pet rock of yours into a river once upon a time.
  21. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) There's a reason Danks didn't accept the same deal as Floyd when it was offered to him. He's a better pitcher than Floyd, just look at their years last year. Danks had a higher K/9, lower BB/9 (and as a result, a better K/BB), lower HR/9, and higher ERA+. He did all of this while being 2 years younger than Floyd. Sure, Floyd won 5 more games, but that has to do with Gavin getting a run and a half more per game than Danks (5.9 to 4.3). And anyway, wins are a worthless stat to evaluate individual pitcher performance. I'll also point out that Floyd was incredibly lucky last season (.259 BABIP compared to Danks' .295), something that likely won't continue in future seasons. I'll also point out that he was freakishly lucky in the first half (.218), but that averaged out well in the second half (.304). In that second half, his K rate increased slightly (from 6.0 to 6.7) but his K/BB almost doubled (from 1.60 to 3.04), and his HR/9 also decreased slightly too (1.37 to 1.24). And in 3 starts this year, he's been absolutely fantastic in every possible way in 2 starts, and he was terrible in 1 start. I'll give him a little more time, but I still think Floyd is in for a very big year.
  22. If Nix is asked to play shortstop, it would be like 5-10 games, and if he's outstanding defensively at 2B, I'm sure he can play an adequate SS. Worst case scenario, Lillibridge can play SS in a second too. The organization obviously likes Nix to the point where they signed him to a major league contract, so they see something in him. Keeping him on the bench to potentially win a job or play some backup infield isn't the worst thing in the world. Even if he ends up worse than Owens, it's still better to give someone else a shot rather than to keep going with the same recycled bad player over and over again.
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) <!--quoteo(post=1873741:date=Apr 19, 2009 -> 11:07 AM:name=kyyle23)-->QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) <!--quotec--> Hey look, its the Washington Natinals The happenings in DC these days are really quite sad, I've caught more than a few of their games this year since they've been playing the Marlins. If Extra Innings gives me a choice I like to watch the MASN feed because A.) Dibbs is one of the more interesting color guys in the game and B.) They have one of the oddest/uncomfortable/sad marketing campaigns I've ever seen for a professional sports team. Right up there with the Bulls of the early '00s: "get your ass down to the UC and watch talented opposing players like Iverson, Carter and McGrady destroy the lowly Bulls!" Find more videos like this on myMASN There are many more, including some for the Orioles. They tend to follow a similar theme; "Remember last September when we were 32 games out of first place and pulled off that win against a good team? That was awesome and I'm a f***ing nut job." http://www.mymasn.com/video/video/listForC...e=1q26i2n7uwq46 ahahahaha COUNT IT, 7 K'S AND REMEMBER WILLIE HARRIS HE MADE THAT CATCH IT WAS AWESOME!!ONE
