  1. QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 11, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) From all accounts, Getz should be the type of contact hitting, decent avg., good OBP, good fielding that we have been looking to provide more balance to the lineup. If he's in the #9 hole, he could hit .260 and be a plus to the sox. .280 would be a huge bonus. Getz is definitely not the only answer. But he could play a big part by hitting .260 with a .320 + OBP and fielding his position as a rookie. The sox have limited resources from which to improve the club and need to know which players to "cut bait" on and which to keep. Getz looks like a keeper. Chris Getz is almost certainly going to be a statistical liability at .280...if he hits .260 he's probably going to be worse than Alex Cintron.

I had some Pain Killer last night. It was a bit sweet for my taste but it was pretty good.
  3. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 09:43 AM) We've come a long way as a franchise in the last 5 years or so. well said. I'd like to give a lot of that credit to Ozzie. I loved this team and that video made my day.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) The Yankees. By far. They are going to go nuts this off-season. I won't be surprised to see them moves both Hughes and Kennedy to get what they want. If I had to guess, I say their rotation next year looks like CC-Lowe-Wang-Joba-Moose. The Cano rumors won't die, and Hudson has been linked to Yanks for quite some time now. With them missing the playoffs, and the new stadium opening up, just sit back and watch. Hopefully Cashman gets creative, because I really think the Yankees are going to win 100 games next year. Forget about 2010, the Steinbrenners won't take to missing the playoffs. Of course, there's a bullpen too beyond MO.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) Maybe on the diamond, wite, but AJ isn't an a**hole off of it. He happens to be the only guy on the team when I went to KC who interacted with the fans and took several minutes to sign autographs. Wassermann wouldn't even sign a little kid's hat for crying out loud. I've also met him on a few occasions off the field and he was a great guy. He's just your average adult who still likes to have fun in life and act like he's in high school, like a poor man's Manny. I don't give a s*** what kind of person he is off of it. The question is, why do Twins fans hate Pierzynski? I generalized - why do baseball fans hate Pierzynski? And he's a f***ing asshole on the field, and if you really disagree, I think you need to watch his in-game actions...he's an asshole. And I love him for it. Part of it is that I'm a Sox fan, but the other is that I love people being who they truly are and that they act the way they truly are. AJ does this. I'm not a fan of 29 other teams. Why is he the most hated player in the MLB? Because he's an asshole. Just because a person is an asshole doesn't mean he can't like people.
  6. DeJesus gets thrown around a lot but I don't think the Royals are going to be selling pieces away any time quickly without getting MLB pieces that are close to the majors. DeJesus has to be part of the rebuilding. I also don't like that he's as injury prone as he is. Like him as a player, I just don't think he's a realistic option.
  7. QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 05:50 AM) My 14 yr. old and I still get a kick out of singing along to the freecreditreport.com spots. On the opposite end of the scale I swear if I hear any $5 foot long commercials again I'm gonna go to Subway's and hurt someone. LOL Some drunk girl was talking to a friend of mine...he asked her if she wanted to Subway the next day to get some $5 footlongs...and she was like, yeah, and I wanna get one tonight too. I laughed.
  8. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 01:37 PM) Athlete's almost always SUCK. Peyton Manning was actually one of the best ones. There were a bunch of great sketches in his episode. Johnny Mosely was also kinda good. The hosts that are the best are people with stage experience in their past. Because it's basically live theater. And for some reason, British people always rock haha Peyton Manning actually is a good actor though (for an athlete, of course). His commercials are always sweet.
  9. Castillo almost slugged below .300 last season. I'm a big fan of slugging, but I can make exceptions for guys that do like .350-.350 or .370-.330 at the top of the order, but .305 is absolutely piss poor. Regardless of how well you run, it's still going to take 2 singles to bring you home, and in some cases even a double and a single. I would rather take my chances on Jerry Owens throwing left handed from 2B than bring in Castillo.
  10. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) It's not about just trying to get the best value. I'm looking at a fine balance of trying to get value in return and fielding the best team possible. I'm not too worried about losing the LH presence, either. Heck, if Nick Swisher turns it around like this organization would be banking on by keeping him and moving Thome, he's a switch hitter. So it would be different from our early 2000's RRRR middle of the order. Swisher is going to hit in the bottom of the order unless he proves himself capable of hitting 30+ homers again with a respectable average. I don't think you can quite count on that. Aside from that, the only other left handed hitters the Sox will have will be Wise and possibly Owens and/or Getz. You also force the opposing manager's with a lefty in the middle of the lineup, as he burns up a pitcher quicker. Quite the opposite; I think Thome's value is so low that it's not worth moving him. He'd likely only accept a trade to like 3 teams, whereas you can move Dye to any of like 23 or 25 teams, and his value is higher as well, seeing as how Thome can't play the field and stay healthy either.
  11. QUOTE (beautox @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 03:40 AM) CS:S Bindz FTW, for example: "gg no re now get out of our mIRC channel or idle n00b, while i go make some belgiumrofls and poor some l33tsauce on them" I am currently riding a lollercoaster while wearing lollerskates
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) Scissors is underrated. ************** Anyways, I see how a rock can break a pair of scissors. I can clearly see how scissors cuts paper. But paper "covers" rock? Are you f***ing kidding me? That's weak s*** right there. Who made that up? I could throw a rock through a piece of paper. Or, simply remove the rock from underneath the paper. And ta-da! The rock is back. rocks are claustrophobic

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) i want to cuddle and wiwte is NOWHERE TO BE FOUND by wiwite i mean wite does heads want a mexi-wite-stache ride?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 02:37 AM) Kalapse why would that team be a certain disaster? If all went well, my rotation would be good. Javy might contribute in middle relief. The lineup would be faster. We've still got Quentin, Dye, Lexi, AJ and Swish, who so many love, on the team. Why would my team suck balls? Please explain. Because a lineup has 9 guys in it, not 5 or 6. You also need a good defensive squad, and Owens is a terrible defensive player, and Fields isn't that good either.
  15. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:58 AM) Hmmmmm, why not deal with the Indians? If Thome would let us trade him there, then lets do it. He's been clogging up our basepaths for years now, let him clog up theirs, instead. yeah trade your third best hitter to a team that finished 7.5 games back when they traded CC Sabathia in June.
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:44 AM) Fair enough, would Poreda and Fields be enough? Or would that cripple us too much? I personally am not a fan of Poreda, I think he will only be a bullpen arm, but he seems to be well regarded. Maybe 2 or 3 more prospects. I just like the thought of getting him becuase Im not that high on Fields/Poreda and would love us to get Roberts, to compete next year, and get those draft picks and use them well like we seem to be doing now. Very possibly, but I think that would have to be a last resort thing, and that's only if KW feels that Roberts is one of THE missing pieces to the team (which is a distinct possibility to be quite honest).
  17. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:23 AM) you may have a few people to agree with you. But, you are in the minority. For the record, I'd rather keep Swisher over Thome. Let Dye DH. That I strongly disagree with. You'll get little to no value for a player who is solely a DH. You can get value for a player who can play an adequate RF. You also lose the left handed presence in the middle of the lineup.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) I see Roberts as another Cabrera like deal, where we get him and let him walk after the year because of the huge demand he will have in FA. I think he would be a great pickup if we could get him, maybe a Fields and a couple mid tier prospects in the like of Ely and someone else. Maybe a fourth. He would help tremendously, and then youre basically garunteed 2 draft picks if you dont resign him. He's going to be in much higher demand than that. Cabrera cost a durable starting pitcher who had a 4.23 ERA the pervious season...you aren't going to get Roberts for Fields and a couple mid tier prospects, because Fields himself is a mid tier prospect at this point in time.
  19. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) Would the Mets have any interest in Dye? Dye for Daniel Murphy is a move I would like to see. Murphy came into the Mets org. as a 3B. Obviously he was blocked by Wright, so they switched him over to 2B and LF while in the minors. He got the call to the big show this past August, where he started every subsequent MLB game in LF. If you trade Dye, you must get pitching back.
  20. I still haven't heard a logical reason as to why the Angels would trade Figgins other than "oh they need a first baseman, they'll assuredly want Paul Konerko because they had interest in him one time in 2005-06 when they had a different GM"
  21. In the first contract Dye signed with the White Sox, he had a limited NTC 4 teams - but I haven't seen anything about that agreement in his new one. Even if so, there are 25 teams he can be traded to. His deal actually expires after next season, and he's coming off of a great season. There's going to be little interest in resigning him just due to age, the possibility of injury, and the streakiness of his game. I love Dye to death and he's easily been one of my favorite Sox players since he's been here, but it makes a ton of sense to deal him.
  22. You make a good points, but that lineup stands no shot at competing. KW wouldn't stand for it.

  25. QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) not sure what we would have to pay orlando hudson, but im pretty sure for the money simply plugging getz in would be a much more cost effective option, as i dont see a big enough difference in their numbers to justify something like 8 mil per year Is $10-12 million a big enough difference between a .700 OPS and whatever the hell kind of defense Getz plays to an .800+ OPS player with gold glove defense but slight injury concerns?
