  1. so when are we going to resign him again?
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Brian Giles doesn't want to win. He blocked a waiver deal to Boston today. Or he doesn't want to leave his home in San Diego, which is a situation he's comfortable in. And he hates Boston, which is perfectly cool by me.
  3. yeah, quite honestly, I don't give a flying f*** where the Sox are in SC. So long as Quentin is a legitimate MVP candidate at the end of the season and the Sox make the playoffs, I'm a happy camper.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) They need to get rid of Vina. The guy talks way too fast and repeats himself and even what he says is the obvious. He's an absolute idiot.
  5. If Konerko and Swisher needed a bit of a wakeup call in the form of Ken Griffey Jr, Vazquez needs one too, and Freddy Garcia would be just OK by me.
  6. His first career homer was pretty sweet.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) But if you can get that type of power from a MI, it is silly to move him to a power position unless you have some stud already there. I think that Beckhams ceiling could be a RH Chase Utley and his floor is probably around Josh Barfield from his rookie season. I think that Field's progress between now and next season will determine if Beckham has a move to the corner IF in his future. unless of course you have players at those positions that are better defensively, good offensively, and Beckham is poor defensively at 2B but good at 3B.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 12:56 AM) Man that Rangers' fan really thinks we're going to fade. Kinda scary. not at all
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) I was saying that about 7 months ago, but everyone called me stupid... Because it is stupid as Swisher is quite clearly the much more valuable player.
  10. I don't think it's that the league is too much in love with Longoria as much as it is that Longoria has just had a better overall season than Alexei.
  11. hey Javy's pitching...Javy if you see this ILOVEYOU and prease remind me to stop posting so much when I'm drunk
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) Well, fortunately I'm not the GM and I don't have to come up with the specifics. I'd actually take Jenks off the no-trade list. He seems like a guy who can be sold high on before he drops off too much. And dumping Dye would be justified if we were going to do a sort of rebuild, as he'd be useless to a rebuilding team and would bring a nice package back in a trade. I'd definitely trade Vazquez, and hope to get something of worth for Konerko and Contreras (although they wouldn't bring back very much at this time). Some of the relievers would have to bring back something, too. For f***'s sake, the Sox aren't the goddamn Marlins. You don't trade every player over 28 and trade them for any valuable piece of prospect you can. The Sox have money to spend and I would bet good money that you see both Dye and Thome in the opening day lineup come next season. Rebuilding is not an option at this point, and the word "rebuild" means nothing to Kenny Williams unless it comes in terms of a building or structure they want rebuilt. And I'd also bet a great amount of money Vazquez is back next year. KW has a super 'Peter North' hard-on for Vazquez and, if that didn't go away with 2006, it's not going away with a mediocre 2008 barring a catastrophic meltdown. No, cancel any and all plans for a rebuild and stop thinking about it now. Think about ways you can beat the top teams in the AL for a World Series appearance in 2009, cuz otherwise you suck. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Point taken. But, at some point, a rebuild will have to be necessary. We don't have the resources of the Red Sox and Yankees. Those are the kinds of teams that don't have to rebuild because of the outrageous amount of money they can put out there. Eventually, we'll have to rebuild, and the fans will just have to deal with it. I'm sure most of us would watch a rebuilding team, but I understand that a whole lot of people wouldn't. I'll disagree completely that a rebuild is necessary. I will also disagree with assumption that the Sox have limited resources (which is my assumption, seeing as how you are comparing the White Sox with the Sawkxzzzzzzzzz and the Yankzzzzzzz)...their payroll is in the top 7 or 8 and it's over $100 mill...the Sox don't rebuild; they spend wisely and occasionally have bad seasons. Perhaps the Sox will have to rebuild, but with Alexei for 3 years, Quentin, Danks, and Floyd for 3 years, and Swisher until 2012 (BUT HE HITS .230 HE SUCKS) (till whenever), the Sox have a fantastic core to build around and the word rebuild has never and will never enter my scope of reality, nor should it KW's. If those guys fizzle out, F*** IT, find someone else who fits the bill. It's not that big of deal. No, stop saying rebuild or rebuilding or whatever version of the word you want to use with a first place team that has several pieces to work with towards the future. Stop. Please. Stop now. Stop. Stop. Stop. Now. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) Really? Have you ever seen a starter sat on opening day for match ups? Yep. Pablo Ozuna against CC Sabathia, last season. Bad season, but it's happened in the past and Ozzie loves his matchups. Podsednik started the next game. Erstad still sucked through all of eternity, though thankfully he's from North Dakota and he sucks superass. He also knows Griffey is GRIFFEY and will do whatever because it's GRIFFEY.
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:58 AM) There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like...... ...ANCHORAGE!
  14. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 09:47 AM) The main competition for Freddy will be the Yankees, Mets, and Cardinals. Obviously the Sox know him better than any of those teams, but may not be willing to pay what it will take to beat out the other teams. Three weeks in AAA to raise his pitch count and bring him up when the rosters expand Sept 1. Then give him a shot to see if he can contribute in the rotation or the pen in the postseason while giving Danks and Floyd some rest before the postseason. I recently sort of warmed up to Garcia, but obviously with consideration the became less. If he came with an option for $6-8 mill non-guaranteed next year I'd be down for it because he's a fantastic pitcher, plain and simple. If not, I really see no point as the idea is to get an upgrade from Contreras while also spelling Floyd and Danks for a start here or there too. I love Freddy and know he could be an upgrade in certain spots for this club, but without an option for next year, I see no point in really signing him, since, outside of next year, there's not a huge point in signing him.
  15. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:15 AM) Beckham hit 9 homers in the cape cod league last year (which led the league i believe) and they use wood bats. Not saying he's gonna be a huge power guy but i think he will have above average power for whatever position he ends up at. I actually have a feeling he could be Longoria-lite...which is why I feel he's perfectly acceptable for 3B, given that his arm is adequate.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:32 AM) Well Sanchez has had a down year this season but the last two he has been a pretty good avg. hitter and a lot of doubles. Not too mention maybe playing games that matter and a lineup with some pop behind him could always help out. We dont need both Brian Anderson and Dewayne Wise on the team so there is a spot open on the roster for a middle infielder. He was barely a league average player (OPS+ 103, OBP .343) even with a .300+ average last season, and that was a dramatic dropoff from his previous season, and then he does what he's done this season. Add on to it that nobody knows what in the hell he'd do in a situation where the games matter, seeing as how he's played for the Pirates, who have become the Athletics of the 50s and 60s, and it's a drastically tough situation. If he passes, and if you get him for cheap, it's OK. You acquire him as nothing more than a utility infielder with the potential capability to start...if anything else, he's garbage. I just hate when I see a player's production drop from 05 to 06 to 07 (Konerko, is, if you were wondering, one of the players I'm worried about). Basically, I want nothing to do with Freddy Sanchez and he can rot in Pittsburgh, so long as he doesn't go to Minnesota.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:54 PM) "Meanwhile, with covers of Madden NFL 09 set to ship nationwide next Tuesday, IGN has learned that EA intends to produce a new cover of the game with Favre in a Jets uniform. The cover will not likely be ready for the launch date. It is unknown yet whether EA will sell the cover separately, release a separate edition of the game, or offer the cover to fans free of charge." wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllll owned regardless

    i am drunk

why is it that whenever I'm drunk I start making long posts everywhere? they all mean something, but people don't want to read a lot ever. oh yeah, rambling right
  19. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:25 PM) Young is great defensively, so is much better than Fields in that regard, but I really have a hard time believing Fields wouldn't be posting similar numbers than Young is this year if he was playing every day. CYoung's numbers are very underwhelming this season. and, IMO (and I'm sure the Sox have quite the same opinion), the Sox have a similar option in the name of Brian Anderson, who happens to be a 4th outfielder on a team in one of the most competitive divisions in the league that just so happens to be in first place. Chris Young would have the same place on this team. Atleast Anderson has an arm. I hope Arizona is happy with what they gave up for Dan Haren...even if he's been stellar, they were buying high as high could get. They have lost a lot of their minor league system in hopes they'd be very good this year (and I suppose for the future too, with that franchise), and it has turned quite disappointing. Youth doesn't always pay off, seeing the inconsistency that organization has brought upon itself, and I find myself a fan of them. They struggle. As a side note, thanks Zona for Carlos Quentin, and much thanks to Kenny Williams...following the 2006 season, seeing the weaknesses of the team and taking that long (in case your arithmetic sucks, 1 full season) to deal with them to bring us the team he has, so far, to this day. It's in first place.
  20. QUOTE (Steff @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) Oddly, I find Bears games way more tame than baseball games. We're season ticket holders to both and by far had had many more bad experiences at Sox games than at Bears games - except the MNF game againt Miami, in Miami, 6 or so years ago when they were playing in the hurricane and Miami was winning 800-0. Those fans are rabid! Maybe it's because we are ticket holders and don't have different folks sitting around us every home game like at the Sox games. Are you considering ratios of games here? I could definitely understand Sox games being more intense and people going at each other, but 3 games over a 162 game schedule isn't much (or however many/whatever games you've been to that have been as such) doesn't really compare to 1 Bears game (or again). I'm not discounting your point, as it's very interesting and it actually means a lot to a person that fully and 100% believes (though can't prove based off of numbers and ratings) that baseball is still America's #1 pastime. Basically, baseball is intense, and whether the common fan watches it or not means absolutely nothing to the diehard. They can stick a whoknowswhat up there whatknowswho.
  21. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:33 AM) Can you imagine if Aaron Rodgers isn't good this year, atleast well above average? The cheeseheads will be livid and rightfully so. Hah, I really hope he sucks. Brett Favre retires in early March. I remember as much because I was eating wings with some buddies of mine waaaaay before finals began. He decides come mid to late July that he's not done with football, after you've planned your entire offseason around not having Brett Favre? f*** that, the dumbass (even diehard, mediocre knowledge fans) are wrong in this. The Packers were completely right in doing this. Aaron Rodgers has proven himself capable of being the starting QB of the Packers in game situations and, if not, they have Brian Brohm who is waiting in the wings. This is a fantastic move, even considering Favre might and probably will retire for good following this season. It does suck that a player with a legacy such as Favre's will continue his career elsewhere, but such is the path of Unitas and Montana before him (and in no goddamn way will I ever include Namath with either of those names ever in my life). QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 01:38 AM) If I had to speculate this early, I figure that he'd be along the lines of a J.P. Losman. Yeah, a player a team drafted up for with all the physical tools in the world but after 2 seasons found out he sucked in the head and the legs and couldn't become anything more than Patrick Ramsey (who coincidentally went to the same school as him)? Please tell me you aren't, in any way, shape, or form, comparing JP Losman to Brett Favre. Please.
  22. Communist Satanists reside on Chicago's South Side.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) Both of those guys I mentioned play good defense. Sanchez actually has good numbers as a lead off hitter as well. Freddy Sanchez has a lower on base percentage than Juan Uribe. They're both f***ing terrible offensively, but if you are so bad that you are getting on base less than Juan Uribe, you are really bad. Let's hope this is the last time Sanchez's name is brought up.
  24. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) I could see Beckham potentially at 3B, but I think his bat fits more into 2B. Beckham put up huge power numbers at Georgia, but I don't see that power translating with wood. If everything goes as planned, I see Beckham as a Michael Young type except with more power and less average. so...he's really not Michael Young at all he's really much more like Mark Ellis
