  1. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) something is seriously wrong with Quentin right now, he's completely changed from a solid hitter that shows patience, to reverting to Juan Uribe you mean his 3 for 6 tonight with a homer and his .300/.382/.667/1.049 going into tonight's game since the ASB? No, Quentin is still a f***ing supermangodtitan
  2. and for those who don't know, it's 6-3 Mariners over the Twins with Boof Bonser on the hill for Minnesota in the bottom of the 7th
  3. so apparently singing the line from Thunder Rolls was foreshadowing Usually when I get home the game's been over for an hour atleast and sometimes and hour and a half
  4. And don't try and beat Minnesota with their own game. It'll never work. The only thing this offense should try and do is diversify the lineup a bit more...add a player at 2B/SS who hits for average and can bunt and steal a base whenever. Add a player at 3B who can play very good defense and will put the ball into play on a regular basis. Hudson/Furcal and Beltre would all be good options.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) Never going to happen. Williams and Reinsdorf are not going to give 7-8 years to a starter, seeing as how it has NEVER worked out. I'll say it sort of worked one time with Mussina; 6 year deal, made it through the entire deal pitching anywhere from slightly below league average to a top 10 pitcher in the league and always threw more than 164 innings. But yeah, I'm not about to sign Sabathia, seeing as how that gut that hangs over his belt is probably going to land him with a sore back sooner than later.
  6. I think it's kind of ironic that the dude directs funerals and he's been thought to have been dead for over 30+ years. Seems like a Twilight Zone episode where he would direct a funeral only to find out later that it is his funeral.
  7. I really enjoy listening to his voice.
  8. Television has been good. It's the development of modern media that has crippled and degraded it over the years.
  9. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:57 AM) No, I understand what you're saying, and I agree. I just made my statement based on K-Rods name being brought up. Him going to Detroit just makes too much sense, and it's going to suck. I've always hated his arm movement on that slider - that violent of a pitching motion just looks like it could end up badly someday - and I hate giving big contracts to closers as it is. If they want him for $13-15 mill a year, they can have him. Or if they want to have him for 5 years and $60+ mill (or whatever), they can have that too.
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:47 AM) Get used to seeing him. I have a very strong feeling Detwat is going to sign him long term. dammit, LOL, you got to me too quick...to clarify, Scoscia really isn't using him as bad as I thought he was, but I still do want to see Thigpen's record hold up
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:35 AM) K-Rod comes in with a 5-1 LAA lead in the 9th and gives up 4 runs. Angels still win 6-5, though. good, let's hope he doesn't break Thiggy's record
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) IMO Ozzie would be perfect for them. He brings the fire and passion they need. The fire and the passion? Player/manager would probably work out well for them
  13. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:35 AM) Much better than average. Especially in the second half where he carried no hitters deep into two different games. I'm just using ERA+...his was 105 and his ERA on the season was in the 4.5s. He was a pretty bad pitcher in 3 months of the year with an ERA over 5 in those months. He was pretty much hit or miss all season long but won 17 games thanks to a great offense, the ability to work deep into games, and a fantastic September.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) Just for sh*ts and giggles, we should just vote for Griffey to be on the September wallpaper. agreed
  15. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) Any chance KW or anyone else from the Sox get tied into this? If they knew (or can prove they knew) about it, I'm sure there could be very serious implications.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) NSS72's goofy prediction of the week... Logan gets sent down to Charlotte to get back on track, and his replacement is Wes Whisler. I like it if you replace Whisler with Poreda.
  17. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) I enjoy baseball because it has less cocky, showboating, big mouth a-holes than the other sports.....at least on the field. But some of these unwritten rules are a joke. Bunting, or stealing bases when you're up by 6 runs is grounds for getting beaned? Why exactly? Because it's running up the score? I guess no team in MLB history has ever come back from being down by 6 runs. KC should have put it in half ass mode I guess. Do you really need to bunt to get ONE baserunner though? when the other team is scoreless and looking helpless? It is bush league what Teahen did...the Royals didn't need a baserunner at the time - not when you're up by 6 runs - and it wasn't that hard to get baserunners against the Sox that day either, seeing as how the Royals scored 14 runs and had like 19 or 20 hits. There's no need to bunt. So I can definitely see justification for throwing at him. Sure, the game's not out of hand yet, but it's also not close either. It's also definitely a much worse time to bunt than Ben Davis's bunt against Curt Schilling about 5-6 years ago when Schilling had a perfect game going as the Padres were down by 2 in the 8th inning or so. With a baserunner in that scenario, you are a home run away from tying the game; in Teahen's case, you are a baserunner and a big hit away from seeing a big lead turn into a monstrous lead. There's just no need to bunt in the case of Teahen.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) To clarify, while he did take less money to stay with the Sox, that's not the full story. As I recall, Dye had a handshake type agreement with the Sox for that contract, then someone (I am not sure it was ARI, maybe TEX) came in with a bigger offer, and Dye elected to stay. Not quite taking less money, but, still a class move. I recall it being Texas too...if it means anything.
  19. It'll be Contreras but a Poreda call up would be pretty coolio. Assuming Logan still has an option, I'd look to send him down until September and try and catch lightning in a bottle with Poreda. Logan's ERA is 15.95 in his past 10 appearances (which is 7.1 IP and 13 ER with 16 runs allowed), has allowed a 1.375 OPS in that time span, and his WHIP is 3.41. He's only had one appearance where he recorded atleast 1 out and didn't allow a run (and that's exactly what it was...he got one out and was gone). Part of it is Ozzie misusing him but part of it is also because he's being exposed with the injuries to the team, which is no fault of his own. The part that is his fault is that he has sucked ass, and that's something that needs to be dealt with. Poreda gives you a guy that should be better than just a LOOGY, which is what Logan is (and he's still pretty effective at doing that, allowing a .708 OPS to lefties, compared to .900 vs righties), and he provides a better bridge to the other relievers. At this point in time, the bullpen needs a savior...Linebrink's out until atleast mid-August, and I don't think the Sox have the time to wait 10 days for his situation to clear itself up. Poreda's potential ability to be able to face both lefties and righties could be absolutely monumental for this team. Fathom brought it up a couple places last night, and I think it would be an absolutely fantastic move for the organization to make. To answer Flash...our Liriano is named Poreda.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) If he could keep his fastball in the 90's, sure. He barely did that in '06 and was better than a league average pitcher.
  21. it's only one game, but this is an absolutely terrible way to start off a road trip for the Twins. Go up 6-0 and blow the lead with one of your up and coming starters and your vaunted bullpen, even if one of the relievers that got torched was Brian Bass who is basically Willie Eyre or Nick Masset reincarnated...and they have like 30 of these games in the next 45. This could be a tough time for that team. They better hope Liriano is absolutely lights out.
  22. 11-6! Nice...way to put up 10 against the Twins. That'll be a dagger to their cute, loveable little hearts.
  23. Ibanez with a chance at 2 grand slams in one inning
  24. Harris with an error, 2 more score...9-6 M's it appears that the Twins struggle on the road (who would have predicted that?)
